People must learn to apreciate any band's effort to do something different instead of the AC/DC's "we play the same sound for a lifetime". It's called experimenting with music, it's called an attempt to make progress as an artist and it's natural. Personally l love ToT in their early and later years, gothic and electro, with Liv and Nell.

People "must" nothing. If you dislike the music, you don't have to pretend to like it just because you liked the band's other stuff. This is like following an idol instead of your own taste. The band doesn't have to stick to their genre, but neither do people have to appreciate everything that comes from a band.

Their first album, released in 1995 was awesome and well received. One year later, Velvet Darkness They Fear was an even better one and all culminated in the master piece that Aegis was in 1998.

When I was first listening to Musique, it was quite a culture shock, though still likeable. In fact, some of the tracks on Musique are now among my favorite songs from ToT, guess it just needed some time to ripe.

Sadly, Assembly was the first ToT album that didn't really interest me. I can't exactly say why, it just didn't "click" for me, not back when it was released, not today.

+Vinicius Augusto Motion is indeed one of the better tracks on Assembly. Not totally unlikeable, but like the entire album, it lacks something, not sure what. It's just not the same experience as the earlier albums were.

Certainly. I like everything (EP's... bootlegs...) before Assembly. Unfortunatelly, it is a bad sign for me , relating to ToT. I'm looking foward to like the albuns after Musique... even though, I think I won't. Cheers mate!

Crazy that is the Leaves Eyes singer. I kind of dig this but it is nowhere close vocally on technical grounds by comparison. After this watch L.E.  > Hell to the heavens . You'll see what I mean.

@Mario Erazo Clearly you have not heard of E.B.M ? Goth can be rock, pop or synth based. Cybergoths are Goths who are into electronic music.

Actually, it's still pretty goth. A lot of goths listen to electronic music and there's this other genre called "grave" which is a combination of rave and goth; a good example is the band Santa Hates You. This is pretty industrial, and a lot of goths love that genre. Although, I personally loved when they were gothic/doom metal. I believe Velvet Darkness They Fear is the best gothic metal album recorded.

I read in an interview that Raymond noticed that a lot of bands started to sound just like them, so he changed their sound to become unique once again.

liv was kicked out of theatre of tragedy because she didnt like the direction they were going in (this weird poppy stuff), sge wabtes to stick to the original gothic metal sound so dont take it out on her that this isnt the best song she has performed.

That's bullshit. Just take a look on what Liv did after ToT and you will see you are wrong. Check "Fake a smile", "Skintight", "Paris Paris", just to mention a couple of songs she did on her own and you'll see what l mean. Definately neither metal nor gothic.
