The The - Out Of The Blue (Into The Fire) Lyrics

I'm a man without a soul...Honey, yeah
I lost it while parading it, in a town full of thieves
Y'see I didn't wanna be with any people I know.
But god knows, I didn't wanna be alone
I thought if I acted like someone else
I'd feel more comfortable with myself
So I showered down, left my little room
Jumped in my car for protection from hostility
Well it ain't easy to be bold in an unknown city
Yeah I was feeling strong mouthed and weak willed
When I ran into the cure for my ills

Don't tell me what your name is
I want your body, not your mind,
I want a feeling, worth paying for before I say goodbye
But as I was talking, I couldn't look her in the eyes,
I just kept wondering,
How many men unleashed their frustration between her thighs?

There'll be no sleep 'til the morning
There'll be no lullabies
'cause the devil borrowed my clothes just for tonight

Well my adrenalin, was curdling like cream,
as I was being led by the hand.
Through the sound of sirens
And the distant noise of some drunken jazz band,
Through the stench of disinfectant--
that "INFECTED" my head,
through the darkness of a corridor
and into a stranger's bed.

Well I didn't wanna hurt your feelings, honey
But I couldn't suppress my own,
I had to pull myself outta this nosedive
by proving something to myself.

She was lying on her back
with her lips parted.
Squealing like a stuffed pig
I was going through the motions
faking the emotions,
and wriggling around like a lizard in a tin.

Trying so hard to cleanse myself,
I was turning into somebody else.
I was trying so hard to please myself,
I was turning into somebody else.
I was trying so hard to be myself
I was turning into somebody else.
I was trying so hard to be myself
I was turning into somebody else.
I was trying so hard to be myself
I was turning into somebody else.

Come my love with your desire
Out of the blue...and into the fire!!

  5. C.... O....

One the most criminally underrated acts of all time. Mind you the press didn't know what to make of this album when it came out. I don't how he convinced his label to pony up the budget for a project like this but I'm glad he did. Masterpiece.

seedy as fuck but nonetheless totally true

  29. s.... ....

1986 was a weird year for me regarding music. I bought AC/DC's Fly On The Wall album, Madonna's True Blue album, Sigue Sigue Sputnik's Flaunt It album and The The's Infected album. Among others. And I liked them all, despite how diverse they were. We had purchased a satellite dish in 1984 and my favourite music TV channel was Music Box (UK-based). I was 11 at the time and got my music influences from many of the bands and artists who got most rotation. That was mostly bands from the UK. I wasn't so keen on British punk as it sounded so unrefined; I instead fell in love with electronic pop music. But weirdly enough I managed to steer clear of Depeche Mode; I instead listened to Yazoo, Erasure, even Dead Or Alive.... And then The The came along and I immediately fell for the punchier sound. Though the title track Infected was the major draw for me, I liked the other songs as well. The album felt original and fresh all the way through. It sounded a bit experimental. And to me this is what has kept the album from being locked away and forgotten about. I listen to today's music too, but much of it is unfortunately without soul (and with questionable talent behind it) and I find myself drawn back to the music made during my childhood and teen years. Cheers, Matt & co; you made a gem of an album that is pretty much timeless.

  30. B.... S....

  32. S.... G....

Do the lyrics "come, my love, with your desire, out of the blue and into the fire" make anyone else think of Joan of Arc? That's all I can think of when I listen to 3:56 through 4:20, as though an angel is speaking it directly to her as she dies.

  33. B.... O....

Im 13 and love this band so much and this is my favorite song by them

  34. K.... B....

Still stands the test of time, utter brilliance.

  35. J.... C....

    Agree. Totally Underrated. ♫

    T.... W....

I think that the word "underrated" is definitely overrated in youtube comments.

    T.... W....

Not underrated. His fans have always loved The The's music. The fact that it didn't appeal to the masses shows that it's real art.

    T.... W....

    Lyrics
    I'm a man without a soul...Honey

When I ran into the cure...for my ills
Don't tell me what your name is
I want your body, not your mind,
I want a feeling, worth paying for before I say goodbye
But as I was talking, I couldn't look her in the eyes,

    andrew james Bunting well done!

    a.... j....

What's your favorite line in the song?

    a.... j....

    I had the original album.
These are missing/ in need of revision:

    (first verse)
I thought if I acted like someone else
I´d feel more comfortable with myself

    (correction)
(Well it ain't easy to be bold-..)
well, it ain´t easy to be born in an unknown city

    (second verse)
    ..
There´ll no sleep til the morning
    There´ll be no lullaby
cause the devil´s borrowed my clothes
    just for tonight

  92. P.... B....

  94. p.... ....

The lyrics are great but listen to the production too. Incredible.

    p.... ....

    Rob Kemmeren no he didn't

    p.... ....

That is not true... He had many well known musicians playing on this album. His brother did all the artwork for the sleeves.
