It's a simple question of respect. Tenacious D isn't going to give anything less than beyond their best to honor such a guy. I'd argue this is one of the best things Tenacious D has every done, and that's not just because it's Last in Line that they're singing. It's just the preformance they put into this.

I very much appreciate and respect vocal abilities of Jack Black but covering any Dio tune is a tall order. Nobody, NO ONE! Electronically enhanced or not, can replicate Ronnie James Dio as of yet in my opinion. It requires range, tone, and the incredible displacement of cubic feet per minute of air the man could produce.

The singer of Astral Doors is a great candidate to do a Dio cover. The list of metal singers who could handle this song in the original key is pretty lengthy.

Jack did his best here, but there's a reason he had to sing it so much lower than the original, it's not even close to as hard as the original composition.
