Temptations, The - Too Busy Thinking About My Baby Lyrics

I Ain't got time to think about money,
Or what it can buy (ah ah ah ah)
And I ain't got time to sit down and wonder,
At what makes a birdie fly (ah ah ah ah)

I dont have time to think about what
Makes a flower grow
And I never given a thought
To where rivers flow

(Too Busy Thinking about my baby)
O Yeah,
Aint got time for nothing else

I Ain't got time to discuss the weather,
Or how long its gonna last (ah ah ah ah)
And I ain't got time to do no studying,
Once I get out of class (ah ah ah ah)

And Im just a fella,
With a one, a one track mind
And when it comes to thinking about,
anything but my baby,
I just dont have time!

(Too Busy Thinking about my baby)
O Yeah,
Aint got time for nothing else

And I know it's all, Its alright

[Instrumental]

I Ain't got time to read a newspaper,
Or look at TV (ah ah ah ah)
Cause' I'm not concerned with what the future holds,
Instore for me (ah ah ah ah)

Im just a fella,
With a one, a one track mind
And when it comes to thinking about,
anything but my baby,
I just dont have time!

(Too Busy Thinking about my baby)
O Yeah,
Aint got time for nothing else

You know I'm too, too busy
(Too Busy Thinking about my baby)
O Yeah,
Aint got time for nothing else
[Fades out]

Temptations, The Too Busy Thinking About My Baby Comments
  1. s.... ....

So I was walking into the kitchen a few minutes ago and Too Busy Thinking About My Baby just popped in my head. I could only remember the title so I came straight to YT. After reading the comments I realized Marvin Gaye recorded it which I had forgotten, so back to the search engine again to find Marvin's. I've just got to put my two cents in, the Temps is more soulful and laid back, while Marvin's is more up tempo and makes you feel it through and through! Feeling it in your bones is important when you reach your sixties and seventies cause it takes a lot, Marvin get's my vote! LOL

  2. D.... ....

I like this version for Eddie’s voice.

Imagine though....Marvin’s version, sung by David.

  3. D.... J....

To say the temp version is better the Marvin Gaye or visa-versa does both versions a disservice, they are both heaven sent

  4. s.... s....

My favorite Boy Band. Grew up listening to the Temptations. Its was my mom who played the hell out of Motown.👀👍👍👍

  5. L.... H....

I'd love Eddie's sweet tenor voice on this song. Marvin Gaye really made this song his own. Eddie's version is more light, whimsical, and reflective, whereas Marvin is more insistant, and earthy. However, as a singer, writer. and music producer myself, I have to clarify the distinction, and semantics that people use when comparing different artists' renditions of a song. What many of you actually mean is that you "prefer" Marvin's version better. The Temps are my number one group, but to be fair, in order to compare, both songs, the musical arrangements, and productions have to be "identical", leaving the artist's rendition as the deciding factor. When comparing the two versions, realize that neither production is anywhere near the other, as far as mood, tempo, instrumental arrangement, bass line, or musical dynamics. The vocal interpretation is also different, to fit the production. Also, the song was not intended as a single for the Temps, but rather an album filler. Now, on the other hand, had they been given the exact same arrangement as Marvin with David Ruffin on lead, I'm convinced it would have been a "Smash" for the group. Check it out Ciao!!!

  8. F.... W....

What can I say about them that haven't been said Eddie at his best again the boss at work Freddie dice Frankford

  9. r.... ....

I love Marvin's version too, but you can't really compare the two versions. The arrangements are completely different. I don't think Marvin's arrangement was even realized at the time the Temps recorded it. There were a few years in between both versions to imagine a new, different production. Now, can you imagine David Ruffin handling the lead, on the production that Marvin Gaye recorded? The Temps would have had another legendary number one hit. Check it out! Ciao!!!

  10. F.... S....

As for me, the Marvin Gaye version is the definitive one.

  11. G.... W....

  16. R.... J....

Three versions of that song and other two were Marvin Gaye & Jimmy Ruffin (brother of the late David Ruff)

  17. a.... a....

Esta buena canción la compusieron NORMAN WHITFIELD - BARRETT STRONG - EDDIE HOLLAND para la banda THE TEMPTATIONS quienes la cantaron y la publicaron en el año 1966

    R.... V....

Jimmy Ruffin sang this song too.

    R.... V....

    @Paul Herring O thanks I'll have to look it up!I 👊 David's big brother

  20. r.... ....

ok song for the Temptations...not even in the same hemisphere with Marvin Gaye's classic version

    r.... ....

rhythmcdr I'm my opinion Eddie's voice didn't fit this song, surprisingly it would suit OTIS.

    r.... ....

i think Otis would have done a good job with this too

    r.... ....

I love both,But the way the tempts.sing it w/ Eddie at tenor and the harmony now that's smoooooth.

    r.... ....

@Lois Weiss Otis? In what range? Interesting observation.

    r.... ....

@Ann-marie Clarke Otis? In what range? With the same arrangement? Interesting take.

  21. C.... 5....

Eddie singing sweet as usual. All first Tenons got a little Eddie in them.

  22. m.... a....

its not easy to best the temps but on this song marvin knocked it out of the park

    m.... a....

I love Marvin's version too, but you can't really compare the two versions. The arrangements are completely different. I don't think Marvin's arrangement was even realized at the time the Temps recorded it. There were a few years in between both versions to imagine a new, different production. 23. T.... M....

I love the Temp's version of this song better than Marvin Gaye's which came out a few years later! "Sing it Eddie"

    T.... M....

    Leaves him far behind!

  24. R.... M....

I love the Temptations, but Marvin Gaye totally gave this song wings.

  25. S.... F....

Not even close.  This version, which came out long before Marvin's in the Get Ready album was the dick, at least at Mumford High

    S.... F....

Hey Steve, I went to North Western, But All The Really fine Sisters Went To Mumford, I loved Eddie's version, as a matter of fact on any given summer day you could walk for miles and hear the entire Temptations Getting Ready album playing at every other house on the block that you walk by. "D"

  26. B.... ....

Prettier than Marvin's version. Even though Marvin's is great also.

    B.... ....

Brilliantbeing THAT CLASSIC 5 ARE FROM THE SOUTH THAT GOOD OLD SINGING

    B.... ....

Not in my opinion...Eddie whines way too much

    B.... ....

@John Worthy You don't understand a good voice!

    B.... ....

@John Worthy man you got your drawn on the wrong side !!

  27. r.... s....

the version of mardi grass is the best !

    r.... s....

No no no my friend. The Temptations version is the best hands down. The second best is Marvin Gaye's version. I took the time and listened to Mardi Gras version and I can appreciate their take on the song. It's actually very good! But nobody sang this song better than Eddie Kendricks :-)

    r.... s....

    @DRock6906 good taste

  28. l.... ....

THE GROUP RECORDED THREE ALBUMS THAT CEMENTED THEIR FAME FOREVER. " TEMPTATIONS SING SMOKEY ", " TEMPTIN TEMPTATIONS ", AND " GETTIN READY". THEY REALLY DID NOT NEED TO RECORD ANY LONGER. EVERYTHING ELSE HAS BEEN LIKE A CHERRY ON TOP OF ICE CREAM.

loveyouall66 No one could put it any better God bless you.
