Television - The Fire Lyrics
Storms all that summer we lived in the wind
Out in some room in the wind
Your hands they were folded
You knew no demands
My tongue, it clattered like tin
Your eyes they say you resigned from the heat
We leaned in the cold, holding our breath
Watching the corners turn corners
Coins on the table, the cards in the air
The face at the window kept smiling
Storms all that winter we stayed locked away
Waiting, watching, falling
End of the street
You ran with it
I wish I could
Sleep is not sleep
My eyes repeat
You take the voltage that watches you weep
You caught the voice
I listen close
All I heard was the echoes
Praise emptiness
Her rose-colored dress
Her circling motions
Praise emptiness
Everything scattered, nothing was missed
We took our house in the fire

I've never heard anything like that guitar solo in my 30 years of listening to music

Television made new kind of music. This is just angelic. I was so satisfied when I first listened to the Marquee Moon. Thought no one could make something like their first album, But it happened, They did again. It's dynamics, It's harmony, it's mood, Everything's in there! IN THE FIRE! IN THE ADVENTURE!
I love that television
poi torn curtain e words from the front ci stan, ma qua è il massimo. l'ho visto dal vivo, sì, lasciamo stare le polemiche di tocco. è lui!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
e di cose/a ce ne sono
preferisco the fire a qualsiasi altra cosa
Absolutely the best electric guitar solo ever. Unmatched. Listen to the guitar cry.
1 minute and half of guitar solo made me without breath!!!
I distinctly remember the first time I heard this song decades ago. I was about to sleep listening to a cassette tape given to me by my brother that contained this tune. When I heard Tom's guitar solo I couldn't sleep no more. It was a revelation! I became a fan immediately and I still am.
Somewhat incredibly this album was savaged by the UK critics when released. Not ' hard ' enough or some such pseudo bullshit. Main punk writer Jon Savage was from a Public School as was Joe Stummer.
THANKS TO THINGLOSTINFIRE. IT'S THE BEAUTIFUL JOURNEY WITHIN THE TIME FOR ME.
best guitar solo ever ??
seminal indie phrasing.
in it's own style. but can't choose between fire and torn curtain solos.
I know!!!!!
I love venus, torn curtain, the fire, but the dream's dream is on another level. Just ABOVE ALL!
sognanti strazianti acidi melodici questi erano i television la più' grande band di tutti i tempi
That guitar, oooohhhh that guitar!!!!
4:47 - Tom "Chills" Verlaine strikes again.
4:43 I GOT ERECTION
@stargate669 This is Verlaine's and whole Television's good friend on my photo , who also played in Hell's early band Heartbreakers. Trust me, he invented rocknroll and every single R&Rer who plays since 73 was inspired by him. He is more important than Beatles, Rolling Stones and soon.
Intro bit was used in a later Bowie song I think, something on Heathen.
Ironically I was just watching a video of the buddhist monk who set himself on fire during a protest.. Instantly after I finished the video, the first thing that popped into my head was the line "Watching the corners turn corners..."
Never have gotten tired of listening to this and of course the other album.. Its just beautiful.. Need I say more!
True!!
Best song on the album - i still have a nice prestine red vinyl copy!!
Whenever I want a respite from Lady Gag-face and Niki Menage-a-six, I just throw on the Telly!
This album is so stunningly beautiful
Very nice song!
The run Tom (I'm guessing) goes on about 4:42 - 4:53 into the song is one of the great runs I've ever heard. Absolutely unbelievable. He deconstructed the riff from Miserlou to an ever greater effect. I really hope more people appreciate that passage!
