Teddy Pendergrass - Don't Leave Me This Way (Parts 1 & 2) Lyrics

Don't leave me this way
I can't survive, I can't stay alive
Without you love, oh baby
Don't leave me this way
I can't exist, I will surely miss
Your tender kiss
So don't leave me this way

Oh baby, my heart is full of love and desire for you
So come on down and do what you've got to do
You started this fire down in my soul
Now can't you see it's burning, out of control
So come down and satisfy the need in me
Cos only your good loving can set me free

Don't leave me this way
I don't understand how I'm at your command
So baby please don''t leave me this way

Don't leave me this way
Cos I can't exist
I will surely miss your tender kiss
So don't leave me this way

Oh baby, my heart is full of love and desire for you
So come on down and do what you've got to do
You started this fire down in my soul
Now can't you see it's burning, out of control
So come down and satisfy the need in me
Cos only your good loving can set me free

Don't leave me this way
I can't survive, I can't stay alive
Without you love, oh baby
Don't leave me this way
I can't exist, I will surely miss
Your tender kiss
So don't leave me this way

Oh baby, my heart is full of love and desire for you
So come on down and do what you've got to do
You started this fire down in my soul
Now can't you see it's burning, out of control
So come down and satisfy the need in me
Cos only your good loving can set me free

Awesome vocals--Teddy has the best version of this song by far.

  27. G.... T....

Ohhh many babies made to this song.

  28. G.... E....

Don' leave me this way. Teddy Pendergrass is the original. It is impossible to decide between the 3 versions I know and love too well! It will be a lie to decide against Teddy Pendergrass; Thelma Houston and the Communards respectively.

    G.... E....

The Communards version was an abortion.

  29. C.... C....

What a beautiful song from Teddy. Thelma Houston had the "POP" hit with it, but no one compares to Teddy.

    C.... C....

    Very true

  30. B.... B....

Great Song -- I DO like the bass line in Thelma Houston's version better than this version

  31. L.... M....

I slept thinking of this song... I just had to play the track this morning.

    J. Carlo Pinto JUST GOT THREW WATCHING SHOWTIME SPECIAL IT WAS REALLY GOOD...HE TRULY WAS A GIFTED SINGER AND HUMAN BEING....RIP MR. PENDERGRASS..

  36. G.... H....

Find it funny that everyone(ok a lot of people) may think this is a Thelma Houston track. Do a little research before you comment.-GSH

  37. A.... P....

What a voice. Passionate and wanting... I feel things when Teddy belts it out. Blessed to have this man when we all did, eh lovers?

  38. M.... N....

    Best version full stop

  39. S.... H....

These Great Ones left us enough music to help us find our way back to the stars. If I could find that Universal code I would turn off the pollution coming out of Hollywood today masquerading as music.

  40. T.... Q....

    SUCH FEELING TEDDY

  41. S.... ....

RIP Teddy, by far the best version!

    S.... ....

    I have to agree

    S.... ....

    When he die?

  42. H.... M....

This version is just superior to Thelma Houstons, with the incomparable teddy ps masculine vocals cresendoing with the orchestra up to a full thoated climax

    H.... M....

    MFSB Philly house band

  43. P.... B....

A loving song ,no matter who sings it full volume, you all take care .

    P.... B....

Can't do with this so many great songs blows your mind wow you

  44. S.... R....

Great song, great vocals, great band! Back before everything was done electronically.

  45. K.... S....

His pleading is everything to me!

  46. J.... M....

I must have different ears from some people on here . This is at least 100 times better than Thelma Hustons version ,, surely ,,, chalk and cheese

    J.... M....

John McCash yes, you have different ears. Because Ms. Thelma Houston sung the hell out of this song. Teddy is one of the greatest but Thelma out did herself!!

  47. N.... E....

I think Pendergrass is an asshole, but I love his rendition of this song.

    N.... E....

What makes you say that about him?

  48. w.... s....

Love💟 this hit.. Remind me of my childhood.. My momma blasting Teddy Bear music🎵🎵🎵🎵

  49. F.... J....

Superb music. Teddy was and is my favorite vocalist. Unmatched in so many ways. Sorry i missed his concert in DC before he passed. A gift to humankind. RIP brother.

  55. C.... C....

this version is the best. put it on in the am you dance to work!

  56. S.... H....

    R.i.p teddy

  57. D.... G....

Probably should give credit to the rest of the band too (Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes) ;)

  58. v.... ....

I have to admit I like this version even more than Thelma Houston's and I really like her version!

    v.... ....

This version was first recorded in 1975 by Harold Melvin and the Blue notes ( Teddy Pendergrass) lead. I remember it well. two years later in 1977 Thelma came out with her rendition. I liked it okay, but to me no one did it justice like the original which is usually the case. with a few exceptions. like when Marvin Gaye re recorded (I heard it through the Grapevine) only six month after Gladys Knight and the Pips, and it forever became his, very few people even remember Gladys did it first.

    v.... ....

Yeah everyone has their flava but ms Houston sings it to me every single time I listen to her

    v.... ....

Totally agree. Teddy voice is everything

    v.... ....

Thelma version screams studio 54 I love her take on it.

  75. C.... G....

I am afraid to sway how much I love this song because there are critics and tell me to shut up, only with the "f" word. I have a right to my opinion. I saw the Teddy twice at the Valley Forge Music Fair, in Penna. He was fantastic. My kind of music.

    C.... G....

F the critics! Love this song

    C.... G....

I think he has the most incredible voice and singing, no one has touched my heart and soul as deep. He was the most gorgeus man, unbeliavable singer, and a wise, beautiful soul. He is the most stunning and sexy man I have ever set my eyes on. As if he was not real, he was larger than life in all ways.

    C.... G....

Connie Goldhahn He was so gorgeus on all levels, it is beyond words.

    C.... G....

Screw the critics... I'm with ya

    C.... G....

I had my HS Graduation at the Valley Forge Music fair in '89..was sad when they tore it down

  76. M.... B....
