Ted Nugent - Street Rats Lyrics
Midnight in the cellar
Dinner on the floor
Sleeping in the gutter
He fights a private war
Hiding in the doorway
Rob you for a nickel
You'd better run and hide
He's a street rat
Nothing to offer
Street rat
Snake in the grass
Street rat
Steals another meal
Street rat
The look of desperation
Sure to bite the dust
His constant nauseation
A real social cross
He's a street rat
Nothing to offer
Street rat
Snake in the grass
Street rat
Steals another meal
Street rat
But it maybe his last
Post war anti-social
A fading of the brain
He's hopeless at his high school
And lurking in the rain
His face is badly beaten
A nasty thing to see
Street rats on the rampage
You'd best keep away from me
(Street rat)
(Street rat)
(Street rat)
(Street rat)
(Street rat)
(Street rat)
(Street rat)
(Street rat)
(Street rat)
(Street rat)
(Street rat)
(Street rat)

♫►**A full year before Bat Out of Hell brought him international success, vocalist Meat Loaf was brought in by producer Werman to sing on the album. Meat Loaf was paid the sum of $1000 for his contributions to the album, which included crafting all of the vocal arrangements and two days of recording sessions. He says that after he agreed to do the album he was sent a lyric sheet containing just the words with no arrangements. Having no idea what the songs were going to sound like, he nonetheless created the vocal arrangements for every song.**

Derek St. Holmes sang "Light My Way, Turn it Up and Dog Eat Dog", the rest were Meat Loaf. I've never listened to Bat Out of Hell, but he did a great job on Free For All.
@Rock & Roll MD -- Did I hear you right? You've never listened to Bat Out Of Hell?
DO SO AT ONCE, MY SON, OR YOU WILL SURELY DIE! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7ES7ueI7p0
...this song kicks...both versions are boss but this Meatloaf one just punches your gut harder. 👍
I remember I was 7yrs old listening to this coming from my brothers room! I’m 49 now and still love it!
I love me some meatloaf 👍🍺👍🥃🇺🇸👍🍺🇺🇸
I once read that Derek was really upset that Ted chose Loaf to sing several of the songs on this album. Personally, i thought Loaf & Ted were a great chemistry.
Fucking ted used meats voice to make a great album this album was great one of the best back in the day I was 16 I didn't know it was ML
How could you not know? Meat had a distinctive voice.
Ted dosent sing but meatloaf does and does a damn good job
Meatloaf is quite good at telling a story and taking us along for the ride. Hat's off to you sir for your FACKING AWSUM contribution to this album!
He did not write the lyrics to this song and usually he didn't write any lyrics to his own tunes either. He's good at telling someone else's story and is talented at singing too
Never listened to this deep track until a week ago when I bought the record and gave it a spin (Always stuck to Free For all & Dog Eat Dog). This is a killer song! Bad ass riff!
-He sang for free LoL
hhahhaa...good point about the guitar bridge
See, this kind of thing is why I always say Meat Loaf doesn't get the respect he deserves.
sleeping in the gutter fighting silly wars.....
Ted is one of my favorite guitarists...but no doubt, Meatloaf was the right choice to sing various tracks on this LP.
Meat shoulda done them all. He makes the songs shine, better than either Ted or whoever else is doing the vocals on the others.
MrBubby didn’t know it was meat himself always thought derik st what’s his name
Kinda like the Un,,,United Nations,,,the Rock and Roll hall should be closed down as the NUGE should have been in so many years ago and before so many other sissy groups got there. Ted has actually bless my life with his ROCK. I love to hear TED play the National Anthem..ain't but ONE TED....I hope he live to be 110 years old. God Bless AMERICA AND GOD BLESS TED NUGENT AND FAMILY>
I just knew it wasnt Ted on vocals Meat was undercover and unknown at the time
Ted not actually much of a sanger.
Ted sings on quite a lot of shit even going back to Dukes days. Meat was in the same studio and ted had to find someone to replace derek fast
70's rock to the core. Awesome!
Mr Meat Loaf on vocals
The original album notes said that his guitar was custom made.
BB2009LZ you can doubt all you want.
you can doubt all you want, the original liner notes on the album said that his guitar was custom made.
I have the vinyl record and just looked out of curiosity. It says on the bottom right corner in pink letters:
"Ted Nugent plays Gibson Byrdland guitars AND a custom made guitar by Paul Reed Smith."
Jovanbob yes, his guitar was costom made as Fender, Gibson, Taylor and most other guitar makers will make any instrument you need if you have enough money. Most of the guitar builders have a custom shop. You are a great person and I am not trying to mess with you.
@BB2009LZ I bet you doubt the Earth's a globe too
you go uncle Ted!
Brydlands didn't come with TOM's.
+Tim Smallwood Tune-o-matic saddles, if you want to knit pick. It didn't come with a tremolo, that's for sure.
Wasn't trying to knit pic..LOL. It's called a Trapeze bridge.\
That's a trapeze tailpiece. The Byrdland in the cover photo shown above is indeed missing its bridge. They do have a tune-o-matic bridge, albeit one with a base for an archtop guitar.
Why in the hell is meatloaf singin' for ted on this album
Because Derek St.Holmes had quit during the making of the album so Tom Werman brought in Meat. Ted's mgmt. asked Derek to return for the FFA tour at the request of Epic Records.
probably needed the money :-)
Because it was Ted's lucky day!
ol' MeatLoaf does an awesome job helpin' Uncle Ted on this tune, and a few others.....shows the diverse talent of Ted, and the other fellas......F'n Cool I think.....always loved Ted's stuff.....yeah, he's a bit out there, but shit....his tunes, and some of his views, are spot on.....
Cuz loaf was free and ted said I will pay you 16 bucks an hour and loaf said done deal 👍
This riff is fucking killer dude
meat loaf sang Hammerdown, street rats, i love you so i told you a lie, together, writing on the wall i am thinking and i personally think it sounds awesome
Derek St Holmes Sang Dog Eat Dog, Turn it Up, Light My way. Ted Sang Free for All. i do not know why but they do not say anything about meatloaf singing these songs in his wiki page though
yes they do, here from the future to tell you
thank you...it's about time
This song tell tales the hatred Ted has for anyone that does not have money..or lives on the street..he groups all people poor together and makes them all criminals..fuck you ted..and fuck you..again..has been asshole..
Look of desperation....sure to bite the dust
Uncle ted y sus ratas de la calle
Hi BRETT:)
I listened to this song for a couple of years before finding out.. he he :)
VAPOR MAN
Thank you for upload JOV:)
VAPOR MAN
the loaf also does the vocals on "writing on the wall".
How many people realize that Meat Loaf is singing this song?
Me, I do!Always did.
best "drum to" of all time...
@Jovanbob Hey, I've always wondered if Robert Plant was waiting for the band to go into a "bridge" in that song? Thus, the ad-lib line looking for the bridge. What do you think?
iv'e seen him 11 times. he always rocks it!
Meat!!!!!
Never heard the Meat Loaf version before, always the Derek St. Holmes one. Thanks!
Ted nugent
There isn't a Derek version on this album. It's Meatloaf on the record
Damn I missed I love you so I told you a lie, Makes Meatoafs contribution >>5<< songs...
Y'all are worried about his "Custom" quitar, but dont care that its Meatloaf singing....LMAO He sang 4 songs on this album, three of whick are just about the best .....
Ya think that messes up the intonation? LOL!!!
Awesome early vocal performance by Mr. Michael Aday, y'all...
There is a tailpiece holding the strings, but no bridge.
Btw, "The Crunge" - by Led Zeppelin :)
Ha,ha,ha,I bought this album just after it was released and have listened to it all these years and never noticed the bridge on the guitar was missing, thanks for the tip, that's funny!!!!!!!
