Tea Party, The - One Step Closer Away Lyrics

I know your name, I heard you call
A distant voice behind the wall
Something stands in our way
She said
She said

I know a place where we can go
Where on one cares and no one knows
If it's passion or play

You speak in tongues
You read my mind
I'd give it all
To see a sign
But you're taking forever

Time stands still and you stay
One step closer away
Will it take us forever

And so, I climbed the wall, I needed proof
Uncertain signs, need certain truths
With every step you take
She said, she said

You need to search, between the seams
You need to twist within the dream
You're one step closer away

You speak in tongues
You read my mind
I'd give it all
To see a sign
But you're taking forever

Time stands still and you stay
One step closer away
Will it take us forever

Time stands still and you stay
One step closer away
Will it take us forever

You've always been
You've always known
That all this time
I've been alone
I've always searched
For what I've lost
Beneath a rose
Behind a cross
You're always there
You're everywhere
Will it take us forever

You speak in tongues
You read my mind
I'd give it all
To see a sign
But you're taking forever

Time stands still and you stay
One step closer away
Will it take us forever

Time stands still and you stay
One step closer away
Will it take us forever

Well, some of America probably doesn't pay as much attention to those better bands. But when you live in a border state like Michigan, we get exposed to their music all the time. That's also how I get exposed to the Tea Party, as well as the likes of Evans Blue, Richy Nix, and Default.

I was not intending to insult Americans and I realized that's how I came across. It's more annoying to me than anything that Drake and Bieber got as famous as they did while 3 days grace got play but that's about it. I shouldn't complain because I got to see the Tea Party twice last July in pretty intimate venues.

Actually, they got plenty of play in my area of the US. And BTW; 3 Days Grace is a good and famous Canadian band here. As is Thousand Foot Krutch.

They are big in Canada and Australia. They never tried to make it in the US. I would assume they knew that their sound might be too eclectic for a country that seems to take the worst of Canadian music and make it famous.

The singer JM said once in an interview that this song was inspired by Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code".
If you read the book it will all make sense..The chemistry between the main character, his female companion and their search...Open to interpretation as always.;)
