from: 1916.. the exuberant German poet, Dadaist Hugo Ball's poem; "Gadji beri bimba".... who said '"to remind the world that there are people of independent minds – beyond war and nationalism – who live for different ideals." :)

Great album, 40 years later is still a must listen for everyone.

  18. g.... ....

Happy 40th birthday, Fear of Music!! :)

  19. R.... E....

Released 40 years ago today. (August 3, 1979.)

    R.... E....

As mind- expanding as Pink Floyd, and as funky as Parliament/Funkadelic. No one knew what to do with this in 1979.

  20. D.... L....

Sister song to King Crimson's Thela Hun Ginjeet. Sort of. Listen to it and you'll hear what I mean.

    D.... L....

@The Piratey Weenie - Disagreeing without explanation as to why?

    D.... L....

David Lazarus Great insight, man! I’ve literally been listening to both albums for decades, and am embarrassed to admit that I’ve never made that connection before. Thank you, sir. Bravo! 😎

    D.... L....

Belew & Fripp both worked with Talking Heads, and "Discipline" is kind of their own take on african influenced new wave music, so...

  21. C.... D....

Wow...listening to this I realized I've only scratched the surface on Talking Heads. Extraordinary!!

    C.... D....

Woah! What’ve you heard so far? This is essential TH listening

    C.... D....

@L French Je suis d'accord avec toi. C'est l'album de talking heads qui m'a fait découvrir TH

  22. D.... k....

How funky can a bunch of white college kids get ???

    D.... k....

@Gerry Berry A-ha-ha! Good one mate! Cracked me up now! : )))))

    D.... k....

best two answers: Talking Heads and Phish

    D.... k....

Gerry Berry wtf what do Afro beats and new wave(which is actually French) have to do with Elvis.

    D.... k....

    @Gerry Berry bruhhhh calm down

    D.... k....

Wrong question, when applied to music. Right question, when applied to white boys who intend to rape the economy, hide the booty in overseas accounts, and dare anyone to find it, much less take it away from them.

  23. t.... ....

listen to at 1.25 speed for some additional funk

  24. J.... B....

I mean, come on... This is fucking ridiculously good.

  25. H.... W....

Talking heads really are the GOAT

    H.... W....

a band that had tina, jerry and david byrne and played live with bernie worrel and Belew must be the GOAT

  26. B.... K....

    Chicken heads, chicken heads...

  27. D.... L....

    Lyrics, please! LOL

    D.... L....

@Michael Arenson It's not just any gibberish; these lyrics are a modified reading of the poem "Gadji Beri Bimba" by dadaist writer Hugo Ball.

    D.... L....

@Michael Arenson I believe this means its "Da Da". Its an artform that used language in the same expressive way.

    D.... L....

    Gadji beri bimba clandridi

    D.... L....

It's a poem by Hugo Ball, German author, poet, and essentially the founder of the Dada movement in 1916.

    D.... L....

In 1985, Marie Osmond recited Hugo Ball's 1916 poem "Karawane" on the TV series "Believe it or Not.” Believe it, or not.

  28. H.... t....

    Love Crimsoheads!

  29. L.... ....

    I love these Robert-Fripp-guitars! :)

    L.... ....

@Mark Whelan Adrian Belew in Heartbeat- oh my! https://youtu.be/YH00yLiUrS4

    L.... ....

@Zachary Morin This music will never get shallow.

    L.... ....

Fripp was massively influenced by TH during his Discipline era King Crimson work

    L.... ....

@subg88 You can especially hear that influence on discipline and beat. Not so much anything else.

    L.... ....

"Sounds a bit like Thela Hun Gunjeet" was my thought

  30. J.... B....

    Tina killin it.

  31. R.... J....

    An essential album

    R.... J....

    Robert James Really good.

    R.... J....

    And an essential band too.

    R.... J....

I would argue that due to its consistent high quality throughout, this is their best album. The theme is strong and there are few weak songs.
