Talk Talk - It's So Serious Lyrics

I've given everything
With nothing in return
I'm filled with images
That play on every word
No-one to tell me
There's a cloud before my eyes
Not only broken,
I don't know the reason why

It's so serious

This endless sea of tears
The feeling that I'll drown
I'd try to catch them
But they're sure to touch the ground
My world of emptiness
A child without a toy
Forgiving anything
Restore me to my joy

It's so serious

Talk Talk It's So Serious Comments
  1. d.... ....

Very similar synth pattern to "Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Enola Gay" made me wonder whether they were taking the piss ( "so serious" i.e. taking yourself too serious) but the rest of the lyrics don't add up, so braaaaaiiin farrrrttttt.

Hollis was a true musical genius, his work with Talk Talk was nothing short of remarkable. I played his music loud & often on my beloved Technics hi-fi system. Left an indelible mark on the music scene & left this life far too early. Thanks for the great times. RIP Mark David Hollis 4/1/1955 to 25/2/2019.

I have a 12inch of Today that has this on the b-side. The version there is rawer and less-produced. Prefer that version, sounds beefier too

Orest Buciora always blows my mind how someone manages to make something so personal, meaningful and iconic in a few songs

  38. m.... ....

This is my personal city anthem of London, every time I go to London I have to listen to this song on a typical Overcast British day! I love British Musicians, they are the best in the world!

  48. a.... b....

but the transition album colour of spring is the pinnicle, you either followed it to eden and laughing stock. get colour of spring and its not such a great leap of faith

  49. L.... S....

    Great song!

  50. A.... ....

this is... just to serious music, i'm gonna go for the classic music :-D kiddin' this is sooo awesome, don't have a word for this beauty!

  51. S.... ....

In the end, I still love every one of their albums. The second half of the song "The Party's Over" is so powerful, after the 3:00 minute mark. A personal favorite of mine. Just incredible!

I know it might seem unnatural at first, but you gotta give "Taphead" a chance! Listen to it over some powerful surround sound speakers at full volume - absolutely amazing!

  52. 1.... ....

Is it really 3 decades since this music was made? Sounds like it comes from the next century. How far have we come?

  53. S.... ....

I think the New Romantic era Talk Talk was justifiably unrecognized. Their first few albums were enjoyable and had some solid material here and there, but for the most part they were shamelessly derivative of bands like Duran Duran, who, in my judgment, did everything Talk Talk could do but did it better. But when it comes to Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock, it's a completely different conversation, obviously.

  54. V.... ....

Yeah I have evening classes so I've got an odd schedule. Kinda like a vampire.

  55. V.... ....

    Thanks for the info mate.

  56. x.... ....

So glad i have this on CD, i love the entire album

  57. x.... ....

    Oh shit......too late.......

  58. V.... ....

I know Hollis gets most of the credit for Talk Talk's brilliance, but I think the synth melodies were what made Talk Talk's songs what they were. I do think Hollis had a great voice, but the superb quality of the synths would have allowed the band to succeed with virtually any singer. Just my opinion. And the sad thing is, I don't even know who the synthist was for Talk Talk. What a severe lack of recognition.

  59. c.... ....

I fucking love you all! 0 dislikes, thats so rare!

  60. P.... P....

    talk talk rocks!

    P.... P....

    Paul Purcell 👌👌👌.

  61. j.... ....

  62. j.... ....

I agree..a brilliant and sadly overlooked band. What a unique burst of energy and intelligence!

  63. M.... ....

    @markelp

For sure! I think I remember the name but I don't remember the music. Well, my life at that time was a little screwed up, marriage, 2 kids and having an affair that was not regretted even to this day. RIP, Greg.

  64. R.... ....

¡Un hermoso tema de los 80's! Gracias ColourOfSpring X subirlo...

  65. c.... ....

  66. c.... ....

@markelp I'm so glad to accidentally find them through the mutant planet advert. I missed the 80's, just glad I didn't miss this music :D

  67. S.... H....

@Narcissiaxx Not really. The main keyboard riff is a *little* similar, but that's about it.

  68. O.... ....

  71. N.... ....

  72. F.... M....

TALK TALK AT THEIR VERY BEST!!!

  73. c.... ....

we live in a fucking stupid world...bands like this are the proof...if this was a smart world then there would be more talk talk about talk talk and not justin ass wipe beiber.

  74. C.... W....

And they were among the first to incorporate Simmons "Hexagon" drums into their music, must've sounded so new when it came out, wait.....sounds much better than today's crap!

  75. C.... W....

@marty9040 No doubt, he is a very talented musician and has a voice with emotion that is unmatched!

  76. m.... ....

Talk Talk were from London, Because that's where it started. Mark Hollis is from the Tottenham area in London. But it doesn't matter, outstanding british music from the 1980's. goodness what happened to this outstanding wave of great british singers.
