Same here. My dad's pretty fucking close friends with Mike Romeo and this shits like the only shit I listened to as a kid.

I have always interpreted this song from a fallen angels perspective of Lucifer's rebellion, a third of the Heavenly Host was cast out, and a fallen angels lamenting over a close relationship with another angel asking her to rebel or not to rebel, and leaving Paradise for good, This can be interpreted allegorically as a human relationship as well.

Strongest track I've heard in that genre of metal. Strong catchy chorus. Strong vocals. I especially love when he sings right after the solo "so I've cheated, and I've lied, been the victim of foolish pride, and I've begged, and I've crawled, and I've battled and bled for it all, so I savor the downfall of paradise. That's where the song peaks and then falls into beautiful accustic guitars right before the ending chorus section

I am a huge fan of DT, Fates Warning, Maximus Circus, and Epica etc. Two bands stand out being the best, most interesting and intriguing on the prog scene. The two are Symphony X and Circus Maximus. Far lead over the others...just saying. Russel Allen and Michel Eriksen voices are out of this world. Super skilled musicians in both bands. If you have not heard Circus Maximus it is your loss.... I have seen DT 4 times live and Circus Maximus 2 times. Circus Maximus blow DT into the water...
