Great !, adds fresh and more original and progressive than some black metal bored riffs; here in Spain 12/8 beat one most common flamenco music, i guess main riff is in 6/4 (similar) clever aplied and combined with metal and vocals on, always SX genuine sound !

Do you mean other stuff from Symphony X, or other bands in general? Try their album Iconoclast, I think it's their heaviest and most groovy album to date. You could also listen to some newer Testament stuff, such as "Henchmen Ride" or "3 days in darkness". I hope this helps! :)

A diferença entre Symphony x e Dream teather é que o Symphony é mais objetivo no som que eles querem fazer, um som pesado e bem trabalhado com os riffs distintos e exóticos até mesmo pra uma banda de metal e sem a enrolaçao sonora do Dream!

Não se pode comparar as duas bandas. Ademais, ambas são excelentes!

Dream theater apenas se expressa com a música, assim como todas as outras bandas, o que você chama de enrolação é exatamente o que qualifica um som "progressivo"

hey, yeah blast beats are the fast consistant snare drumming usually heard in Death and Black metal.
Some more modern black metal bands like Dimmu Borgir incorporate heavy orchestral arrangments with the music

It is not that I dislike their previous 2 albums, but I feel Romeo is transforming Symphony X in the same way Portnoy transformed Dream Theater on the albums before his departure, and I don't like that.

While the prog has been scaled back a bit, this is still a fantastic album. I do not have a personal favorite Symphony X album because they are so good in all they do. All albums have merit.

Super yep... Love it... especially since it is not what I was envisioning. Was thinking they would go completely overboard on the prog side (which is great) to make a point (not sure what they have to prove at this point, though).

Instead, they created an accessible SX album that still has the great hooks and yet stays true to their sound. I know, many complained that this wasn't V redux, but good songs are good songs... not sure how else to say it.

From the three songs i've heard so far this is going to be the worst Symphony X album since their first album, and probably that album is even more creative instrumentally. The riffs i've heard aren't awful but they aren't special either. Russell Allen has lost pretty much all of what used to be an impressive vocal range, the choruses aren't catchy, and the lyrics aren't delivered with any emotion. Iron Maiden and Symphony X have dissapointed me so far this year, maybe Megadeth and Dream Theater can produce some quality work.

I love that they can produce new material, that sounds different, yet is still SX. As they are all masters on their instruments, the presentation rarely seems gratuitous. I ordered this one... hopefully here tomorrow (gotta be on disk... yep, I'm old).
