Syd Barrett - Gigolo Aunt Lyrics

Grooving around in a trench coat with the satin entrail
Seems to be all around in tin and lead pail, we pale
Jiving on down to the beach to see the blue and the gray
Seems to be all and it's rosy-it's a beautiful day!

Will you please keep on the track 'cos I almost want you back
'Cos I know what you are, you are a gigolo aunt, you're a gigolo aunt!
Yes I know what you are, you are a gigolo aunt, you're a gigolo aunt!

Heading down with the light, the dust in your way
She was angrier than, than her watershell male
Life to this love to me, heading me down to me thunderbird shale
Seems to be all and it's rosy, it's a beautiful day!

Will you please keep on the track 'cos I almost want you back
'Cos I know what you are, you are a gigolo aunt, you're a gigolo aunt!
Yes I know what you are, you are a gigolo aunt, you're a gigolo aunt!

Grooving on down in a knapsack superlative day
Some wish she move and just as she can move jiving away
She made the scene should have been-superlative day
Everything's all and it's rosy, it's a beautiful day!

Will you please keep on the track 'cos I almost want you back
'Cos I know what you are, you are a gigolo aunt, you're a gigolo aunt!
Yes I know what you are, you are a gigolo aunt, you're a gigolo aunt!

I know what you are ............you are THE GIGALO AUNT !!!!

  2. D.... F....

Syd was so influential to Pink Floyd that over half the songs they wrote after he left the band were about him. If that isnt a tribute to his influence on the band i do not know what is.

  14. s.... B....

A Girl who is usually very cute and pretty that seduces men makes them madly fall in love with her using her specific ways but unlike a male gigolo she's not interested in money but only the pleasure of capturing and breaking their heart.

  15. s.... B....

Robyn Hitchcrofts cover of this is also very good, as Robyn has a similar middle class English accent, it's sung how Syd sung it, it's slightly faster but worth a listen.

  16. M.... D....

Syd Barrett looked about himself and could find no tree.

  17. M.... D....

Ulysses was tied to a mast. Ropes make everything easier.

....have you got it now?? "

He liked to wind up Waters and Gilmour

    f.... ....

A true act of mad genius.

    f.... ....

Supposedly that was the last time Mr. Waters ever played with Mr. Barrett. He refused to be made a fool of… but at what cost?

  48. J.... D....

    Pop gold

  49. N.... D....

One of the most underrated guitarists ever.

  50. C.... R....

Love this song. If this was never released as a single, it should have been! Shine on You Diamond. Not crazy. Misunderstood and mistreated. RIP! He was very good looking, talented, sensitive, and smart. Wish he would have surrounded himself with better people instead of ones who intentionally harmed him. Not saying he didn't make bad choices. If someone chooses to take drugs, not much you can do. But if people did spike your coffee, tea, and food with LSD, to me, that is cruel and evil. Anyone thinking LSD is going to expand your mind and make you more creative is in for a rude awakening. When college students jumped six floors to their deaths, they weren't smoking pot!

    C.... R....

People at the time didn't realize what the long-term or even short-term possible negative effects were of these drugs. Smoking some grass was one thing, hash another, alcohol another, but the hallucinogens were mainly new to most people. But nobody had taken that stuff in such large doses, for regular intervals, and it took a number of years for the ill-effects and acid casualties to show up. Do What Thou Wilt, but this credo had devastating consequences in many cases. I was born in 68 so I had no idea of any of this until learning about it in the 80s or 90s. I've still never taken any such thing, or any drugs at all, and I'm goddamned glad. Learning about Syd, even had I the inclination, was a wonderful deterrent, scared the living shit out of me hearing what befell him.

    C.... R....

@Scott Briggs I'm glad you have made wise choices. The most hurtful thing a parent can deal with is losing a child. It happened to me. I lost my son a year ago. He was 35. It was a pill, not prescribed, and it contained fentanyl. I'm sure he didn't know this pain pill was going to end his life. China and Mexico can make pills look exactly like what our pharmaceuticals make. The have stamping machines and can add the letters and numbers. Sickening but true. I wish and hope Americans all over this country would be more careful about what they put into their bodies.

  53. A.... H....

Should have been released as a single I reckon...

    A.... H....

exactly, EMI didn't produce or do enough to promote this album, which is why it failed to chart.

  54. H.... ....

Is that Syd's lead guitar work during the breaks?? It. too, is brilliance.

  55. p.... s....

this is one of the few songs which I remember where and when I first heard it. Okay it was ten years after its release but I can still picture the moment when John Peel played this on the radio.

  56. H.... ....

Is it Syd doing the fabulous guitar work?!

  57. p.... ....

    well produced..

  58. N.... f....

This is like hard rock\pop\blues its crazy

  63. C.... M....

  64. E.... o....

    Pop star

  65. T.... L....

    Masterpiece

  66. D.... ....

It's such a shame that, when i'm talking about my favourite music at school, nobody knows who Syd Barrett is, or even Jeff Buckley. It's all dubstep & hip-hop that these people like, i can't stand the stuff. I guess i just hang around with the wrong people.

    D.... ....

I'm about to turn 30 myself. I felt kinda the same when I was in school. I had my own little group of friends who liked the same music, excluding various artists. We still had our own tastes. When I think back, I have to wonder why it was that I sought to find people who liked what I did. I guess it comes down to wanting to feel understood by someone or to share something you both like.

I say pay no mind to it probably. Keep enjoying what you do and wait until you get outside of that school. You'll find a lot more people like yourself once you get away from that flock. Most of them, I assure you, are just doing what they think is cool. And that kind of music for your time is just what is popular. I played some shows in a bigger city when I left school. Only to find the city was a large scale version of high school all over again. But certainly more selection of people to meet who aren't tools.

    D.... ....

@LucidDream couldn't say it any better.
I'm 21 and the things you said are true, when you're in high school the social circle is small and the chances to have someone with similar interests are very small.
After high school if u go to college or have a job/hobby etc, trust me you will meet people who have similar interests like you and appreciate good music:)

    D.... ....

You sound like you'd be pretty cool to hang out with, kid! Keep up with the good taste in music - you'll find your people, your tribe, when you get out of there

  67. R.... ....

hoy definitivamente es un 3 19/01/18 ficu/organización estratégica (direcc)

    I love you Syd

  70. K.... V....

  71. m.... ....

Superlative day and a superlative song!

  72. R.... ....

I Love You Syd! So much!!!

  73. S.... L....

The higher you get, the more frightening this song becomes.

  74. E.... R....

no one bad song in this album!

    E.... R....

    exactly, it is perfect.

  75. j.... ....

Was Syd playing electric guitar on this ?

    j.... ....

He's playing it like a god. xD

  76. J.... G....

Shame that whoever back then mixed Sid's crazy fine guitar to barely audible level. It's the same for every recording, to hear it you have to forcibly balance the left and right speakers volume. All around, such a great song. But it needs Sid's crazy arse brilliant poetic Telecaster to be audible. Then it's full-on crazy good art, the way it happened! :)

  77. D.... A....

    I'm thinking Bipolar.

  78. A.... K....

please keep on the track cause i want you back gigolo aunt

  79. s.... ....

    what is syd's car?

    s.... ....

scissors65 an old Cadillac if I remember correctly.
Apparently he gave it away to a complete stranger

    s.... ....

    lucky stranger

  80. B.... W....

    Simply Brilliant.

  81. P.... M....

16 guys don't understand where an aunt's affair could bring..

    P.... M....

Gigolo Aunt is A Girl who is usually very cute and pretty that seduces men makes them madly fall in love with her using her specific ways but unlike a male gigolo she's not interested in money but only the pleasure of capturing and breaking their heart.

  82. S.... S....

un tuffo nell'azzurro....nonostante il mio tempo che passa

  83. 9.... A....

5:25, like the way the rhythm is just thrown out there on a platter

  84. D.... ....

2:15 - 3:00 the best ever guitar sound by syd imo. The sound of that guitar is just something else, I think this song is so underrated

    D.... ....

I agree! and about 4:43, Wow. I think this song would be popular today to millions!

    D.... ....

The intro has always gotten me... dunno why..

    D.... ....

Syd was really clever at playing the guitar!

  85. P.... M....

What a wonderful and elegant British accent!

    P.... M....

Listen to "Lucy Leave", the first thing he ever recorded. He sounds like a cornbred Murrican...

  86. m.... ....

Holy cow, I never realized the Damned song I've heard for years was a Syd cover...and I'm an early Floyd Fan.

    m.... ....

Listening again after years, the Damned song is an homage not a cover. Seems they just lifted the chorus.

  87. j.... v....

    Magnifico...

  88. E.... L....

    Beautiful Syd.

  89. K.... J....

Track from my favorite Syd Barrett record Barrett. The Barrett record was vastly underrated.

    K.... J....

Yes, it is easily as good as Piper... Now, that is saying a lot, because Piper at The Gates Of Dawn is one of the greatest albums of all Rock Music (not just Psychedelic Rock).

  90. N.... B....

Syd was the better song writer...

    N.... B....

@Tristan Lol...yes. Roger couldn't produce anything close to this.

    N.... B....

Tristan Those albums songwriting are far less complex than Syds. They have far simpler lyrics and it’s much more focused on the music. In that way, I’d say Rogers music is far less intellectual. He makes music that sells.

    N.... B....

Tristan The seas will reach and always see
So high you go, so low you creep
The winds it blows in tropical heat
The drones they throng on mossy seats
The squeaking door will always creep

    N.... B....

Tristan Lol okay. You don’t understand Syds songs so you don’t see the genius behind them.

    N.... B....

Some of those examples you are using don't illustrate your point as not being intellectual. Firstly the contrast of grimble with grumble the 'gr' sounds, the interbal 'i' rhyme of 'i've got a bike you can ride it if you like' is lovely, and also forgetting to use the rest of the lyrics 'I've got a bike you can ride it if you like it's got a basket, a bell that rings and things to make it look good, I'd give it to you if I could but I borrowed it.' I mean seriously, no one writes like that, it's incredibly unique, using basic language mixed with Lewis Carrol style rhymes, internal rhymes and harsh contrast to stop the rhyme.

  91. B.... D....

Here bashing my brains wondering why this wasn't a big hit back on its day. Mad mad world...

    B.... D....

Too eccentric for even today. Syd stopped trying to be commercial after Apples and Oranges flopped.

    B.... D....

it seems like a totally normal cool song to me, but I understand some people just wouldn't get the lyrics

    B.... D....

his exit from pink fLoyd pissed a Lot of 'industry' off

    B.... D....

Because it's too childish, like everything he did.

    B.... D....

@eNeNe Hans Keller (who was brought up inside a string quartet and carried out one of only two* existing interviews with Syd Barrett), gave his verdict on his music ~ “it is a little bit of a regression to childhood but after all ……… Why Not?” * The other existing interview was with Dick Clark, where Syd only said "I think we're here for 10 days", "yeah" and "yeah right"...….

  92. B.... S....

grooving around in a trenchcoat w/ a satin entrail..that just kills me. this guy was a superior songwriter. & we shall never see his like again! end of line.......

    B.... S....

    Ben Scarlett well said

    B.... S....

    Yep....

    B.... S....

Google Magog bromine chamber, greater greatness is always coming. Some of us prefer to live to the end.

    B.... S....

    Well, there is Robyn Hitchcock!

  93. O.... J....

    Acid Summer....!!!

  94. S.... F....

I adore this song -- it's quite lighthearted. Very nice song, and well produced. Though long, it doesn't drag at all.

  95. D.... B....

    Family. Denise Alves Barret

  96. M.... D....

    So catchy!

  97. z.... ....

Is this one of Syds songs with Gilmoor and Wright playing? I know they did a fair bit of work with Syd around this time.

    z.... ....

Yeah. David was on the bass and the organ in this song, and I'm pretty sure Rick was on the piano.

  98. J.... L....

cause I know what you are
you are a gigolo aunt, you're a gigolo aunt!

    J.... L....

you are a gigolo aren't you? a gigolo aunt!
