Sweet - New York Connection Lyrics

It takes eight days where I wanna go
Well, there's just me am I only go
I've got no face to make this slow
The further I travel, the less I know

Somebody help me get home
I can't spend my whole life alone
Somebody help me get home
I don't wanna be on my own

Won't somebody point me in the right direction
'Cause all I need is a New York connection
Really need a woman's affection
I've got to make the close connection

Somebody help me get home
I can't spend my whole life alone
Somebody help me get home
I don't wanna be all alone

Somebody help me get home
I can't spend my whole life alone
Somebody help me get home
I don't wanna be on my own
Don't wanna be on my own
I don't wanna be on my own
I don't wanna be on my own
I don't wanna be on my own
I don't wanna be on my own

This was their Self-Penned B-Side to Wig Wam Bam 1972,wouldn't think it was the same band, unlike the A-Sides at that time, written by Chinn & Chapman, broke free from them eventually with Fox On The Run,regarding Fox On The Run,I preferred the more raw & heavier version on the desolation boulevard album,New York Connection is in my top 3 B-Sides of theirs, has that raw sound to it,Brian's vocal sound on it is great,Andy Scott's Sweet brought out an album called New York Connection, saw him & his band circa 1992,at The Royal Standard pub in Walthamstow East London, but the original Sweet at The Hammersmith Odeon in February 1978,sadly,not long after that,It'll went wrong, just as they were making a name for themselves again,I was on my way to see Brian at The Marquee in London, circa 1980,but it was cancelled because of his ill- health, but it was never the same, once they had split, never got the credit they deserved, got labelled being a bubblegum band, couldn't quite shake that off,now with YouTube, you can see that they can really play,if they played with The Who at Charlton in 1974,they would of got a bigger name with the rock fraternity,& shutting up those music critics, but,as you may know?,Brian was attacked outside a bar,& chopped against his throat, resulting in them cancelling,at least they conquered The States to a point, unlike most British glam bands back then,Ritchie Blackmore getting on stage with them in Santa Monica in March 1976 & doing their rendition of "All Right Now",it's on YouTube,Paul Kossoff & his band Back Street Crawler were meant to support Sweet, but he died on a flight in The States, since then of course,Brian & Mick have left us,but their memories & Music linger on,& Sweet are finding new fans as time goes on,soundtracks to films, etc,& finally getting the credit they fully deserve, influenced a lot of bands,& they were copied too,Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame may finally beckon for them, doubt it,but miracles do happen,Long Live Sweet!

Sweet´s B-sides are amazing good. They showed, they can do and they really did. Phil Wainman was the right man to be their mentor, unfortunately boys didn´t get on with Phil and after Sweet Fany Adams, they left his remarcable job and went back to Mike Chapman, which wasn´t very good idea.
After Fox, Sweet got enough and it was time to stand on their own, or fall down. They succeeded with Fox On The Run and Action, so, we know what was the result.
What we didn´t know, was Brian´s problem with booze but that´s another story.
Sweet is still one of those great bands, which gave us a real Rock. Sweet is not a bubble gum band, they are a real ROCK and their music ROCK for ever.

  13. I.... B....

Great song...great video thanks for posting.

  15. T.... ....

cracking b.side again from sweet who proved they could rock with the best.had they played with the who in 1974.at charlton rock it would have kick.started there uk rock carreer. but beacause of what happend to brian at that time it didnt happen.they never capitolised on it.no uk tours or festivals after 1974.big mistake so all those great albums they put out never got heard by the so called real rock fans. they should have been a stadium band sadly.wasnt to be.

  17. m.... W....

one of the few songs where there is no vocal harmonies with just brian singing the whole song on his own so brilliantly. infact i can only think of one other like that and that was man from mecca both back to back on the fantastic sweet singles album produced just for australia and new zealand which reached number one in melbourne and number two nationaly in oz

    m.... W....

bert maanders yeah i wish it was on cd. I got a semi pro transfer onto cd but no cover

    m.... W....

bert maanders i only think in hindsight that peppermint twist seems a little out of place because i have had that album since i was 10 years old and its not such a bad thing to have one two hit singles on an album anyway. i think i have all of those rare cds as you said the list is endless so its hard to keep track

    m.... W....

bert maanders no i dont think i wanna be committed would suite that album and i think it is a terrible song anyway

    m.... W....

Not on your life mate, IWB committed is brilliant. It shows just how good they were at diversity.

    m.... W....

    i love your comment

  18. A.... B....

De B-tracks waren altijd wel heavier. SWEET FOREVER

  19. p.... ....

Yeah their b sides New York Connection and Need a Lot of Lovin are superb!! Like others on here I could never understand why they were never used as singles. I suppose they weren't short of great songs to choose from were they..Amazing band and very much a part of my teens. Yes Planet Rock needs to realise there's more than Led Zep and the like out there!!!

    p.... ....

They were never used as singles because there wouldn't have been any money in it for Chinn/Chapman, the song writing team they were contracted to at the time. It was all down to money. Very sad!

  20. s.... ....

why the hell dont they play sweet songs on planet rock they were a great heavy rock band up there with the likes of sab zep dp

  21. i.... ....

oddsenHELL, I so 100% agree with you!
    Fuck today's shitty music!
Back to the 80s when there were still hopes and dreams!
In our hearts they will live on as long as we remember them: Freddie Mercury, Cliff Burton and all the rest!

  22. K.... L....

    Wow this is great!

  23. p.... h....

great b side by the sweet which thankfully i,ve got on a lp that plays good, also i agree with tiddler111 that flick of the wrist by queen was a great b side. long live classic rock!

  24. T.... ....

@oddsenHELL I totally agree with you

  25. p.... ....

love mick tucker's drumming .. he loves showin his talent.

    p.... ....

Yes, Mick was an awesome rock drummer !

  26. s.... ....

This is a superb video,I really enjoined this!!Did you put this together yourself?

    s.... ....

    Agreed !

  27. J.... ....

Let's not forget the year 1972! Another good self penned song produced by Phil Wainman!
Why oh Why they didn't stick to that guy to the end?!

    J.... ....

I also love their hit singles and B-sides where they worked with Phil. I read that they thought that he wasn't the right person to produce a whole album for them. One thing about Phil that comes across in interviews with him is that he seemed to have a genuine commitment to the band; it's a pity that he wasn't with them in some capacity to the very end.

  28. C.... ....

Love it so much! Definitely my top 5 fav Sweet song

  29. M.... ....

i loved this awesome song back then, i love it now!

  30. K.... ....

    Very underrated song.
I've always considered this one among their best.

  31. w.... ....

Their best b side from that time.

  32. l.... ....

Great one, just listened to that song last night!!!
