Sweet - I Wanna Be Committed Lyrics

I wanna be committed
I wanna be committed

I thought I was a space age cowboy
I thought I was a sweet and sour chow-boy
I thought I was a thinker
A juvenile drinker
I thought I had some kind of a brain
'Til they told me I just a rumour
A cheap and nasty looner
As it turned out, I was just insane

I wanna be committed
Insanity permitted
I wanna be committed for my mind
I wanna be committed
Don't let me be remitted
I wanna be committed if you don't mind

At the dance last Saturday night
I was rockin' and rollin' and holding her tight
'Til he got his hands on her
But when he started out to play
She kept pushing him away
And he got a funny feeling
He was walking on the ceiling
And someone was heard to say, "If you don't mind, sir"
I don't mind

I thought I was a teenage dream boy
With a brain made of solid plastic alloy
I thought I was a tripper
Ain't nobody hipper
'Til it turned out I was going down the drain

I wanna be committed
Insanity permitted
I wanna be committed for my mind
I wanna be committed
Don't let me be remitted
I wanna be committed if you don't mind

I wanna be committed
Insanity permitted
I wanna be committed for my mind

I wanna be committed
I wanna be committed
I wanna be committed for my mind

    A masterpiece!

  3. T.... L....

bomkers and brilliant. Nobody had harmonies like the sweet

  4. A.... B....

the most sickest, schizophrenic, scary and brilliant song they have ever written IMHO. Stuff of nightmares :-))))

  5. D.... K....

My first hearing of this song, today, I wasn’t expecting anything, but this is extraordinary, and great for the drums alone, Mick Tucker, a genius!

This long version was first released on the British album Strung Up in late 1975. The one on the American version of Desolation Blvd. was pegged to be Sweet's first single in 1975, but after the poor chart run of Turn it Down (partially due to being banned), the guys decided to part ways with Chinn-Chapman, and release their self-penned A-side. So they re-recorded a song on the British version of Desolation Blvd. And Fox On The Run became a worldwide hit in its new version.

Great hearing this again. I've been a Sweet fan here in fue U.S. since 1973, although I Didnt really care for Little Willie until later. I got into British glam or "glitter" groups and artists. I would go to bookstores and music stores in Hollywood to buy the UK music weeklies and import records. I read in one of them in late 1973 that the follblowup to Blallroom Blitz would be "Midnight in the Baskervilles". I always so Dee what happened to it. Much later I realized that IWBC, with dog howls, etc. must've originally been using the backing track to the lost song. Ch-Ch recycled it.

  8. J.... C....

First time hearing this one. Naturally, I love it!

  12. J.... M....

This is a really great song ......Sounds as fresh as if it had been recorded recently ..So COOL,....There's Steve and his awesome bass ..:-D

  13. A.... U....

I wanna Be Committed, should have released as a single in 1975 as it´s a very weird but dynamic song; soulds like pre-Punk, like Dont It Turn - magical sound, could be David Bowie track as well

  14. Y.... C....

Excellent and deepest... Legendary SWEET Song from the Legendary LP...

  15. C.... B....

Still boggles my mind when I remember Chinn and Chapman wrote this one. Imagine them giving it to Mud or something. They definitely saw that Sweet had something special about them.

  16. L.... S....

If your too smart-THE Stupids want 2 commit u.

  17. L.... S....

  20. A.... U....

Sweet´s I Wanna Be Commited was the 1 PUNK track ever....who came 1 Sweet or4 Ramones oir Sex Pistols or those unforgotten names like Smiths or f...never remember..Clash hehehhehe

  21. D.... D....

mike & nicky must have been popping some shit when they wrote this crap, the band recorded it but refused to promote it.

  22. S.... a....

I don't know why u say this is sweets most weird song it's not weird at all your weird for saying this songs weird

  23. E.... M....

Sweet were a lot more diverse musically than people give them credit for. All their forays were musically interesting. Still Chinn-Chapman, though. Side 2 would be their own compositions. Thanks for the version with the extra :50 seconds. Nice video montage!

  24. T.... S....

I have to admit that Sweet Desolation Blvd was the first album that I got at the age of 10 . and I was hooked on Sweet and even did a talent show , show casing my vocals in the 6th grade doing "Fox on the Run "
still love the band to this day . Sweet has opened the door for me to explore other bands of Glam or shock rock . love them all .
keep Rock'n and keep the Glam bands alive .

  25. S.... a....

    this songs brilliant

  26. I.... H....

    best drummer ever..unbelievable timing

    I.... H....

It may just be me but I think they had the best drummer of any rock group. Sure, there are other drummers who perform fantastically but Sweet’s songs featured drums to set everything in motion and the drum lines were awesome.

  27. A.... U....

fuck, this Chinn-Chapman was and tryed to proove them and our listeners to see and hear up; Sweet could do a bit different and almost so called Pre-Punk music as they really did..Sweet were number 1 on Punk area..believe me or not..they were the real PUNK group after Glam period, lot before Sex Pistols or mmmm Blondie, which was not real punkie.

  28. m.... a....

But its good to have it back. One of my favourite sweet songs

  29. m.... a....

where have this video been this past few months?

    m.... a....

    A.... S....

Yes Ellen and white mice too !!!

    A.... S....

Anja Schmied Danke! Who plays the "funny funny" games with us? 😀

    A.... S....

    Ellen R. I don't know !!! Vielleicht ein Heinzelmännchen !!!!! 😃

  33. C.... ....

I can imagine how the Chapman demo sounded to this.
Then again, i`m quite sure the band polished it up with alot of improvisation with all the flangy , psychedelic sounding arrangements.
This is far from any "glam rock". It`s quite experimental (& mental) actually with the tempo change and the pitched down bell in the background - Perhaps Mike was tripping.. Who knows.

  34. G.... F....

To glam métal And slows little punk rock sometimes. TheY had à great talent And unfortunately underestimated..

  35. G.... F....

very large spectrum TheY had. from pop glam

  36. J.... O....

great song considered for a single in the uk but due to the lyrical content about mental health it was a no no

  37. 6.... ....

    isn't this a RAMONES song?

    6.... ....

No. The Ramones' song was titled I wanna be sedated

  38. J.... W....

sweet Musik macht einfach gute Laune

  39. M.... o....

Brian - extraordinary --- Steve - hilarious - Mick - underrated ---- Thanks for all good times in the seventies -

    M.... o....

    what about andy?

    M.... o....

@Maryann Colyer he quit to join Spinal Tap

    M.... o....

    Why leave out Andy?

    M.... o....

Andy a superior guitarist and vocalist.

  40. J.... W....

    wundervoll music

  41. E.... K....

phenomenal shit...I used to play this album at night as a kid. it helped me sleep.

  42. R.... G....

Great pictures! But Lol, Mick Tucker with a huge swaztika on his silver glam rock dress (on the back). At 1:55 Those times you could get away with anything I guess. Hope he wasnt a nazi, dont Think he was. Its mirrored too. Maybe a symbol from India or so then, not nazi?

    R.... G....

+priffipruff Absolut! Den är inte helt lätt dock att sjunga, tror jag provat ngn gång... Men visst vi testar, gärna det!

    R.... G....

    +priffipruff okej coolers delighters!

    R.... G....

+priffipruff Eller hur? Hade för mig att den ligger högt ibland och behöver sänkas lite.
