Sweet - Hot Shot Gambler Lyrics

I've been much too long in this old casino
Run out of money and luck
I gotta find a way to that lucky number
Say: "Buddy, can you give me a buck?"
A fortune lost when the dice was tossed
Spin of the wheel was my friend
I though I knew when the bridge was crossed
Forget about tomorrow, live for today

I'm a hot shot gambling man
Playing my game the only way I can
I'm a hot shot gambling man
Comming on home to you
Yeah, I'm a hot shot lover
Comming on home to you, yeah, yeah

I hope you understand the way I change my plan
How I've falling for a lady like you
I got three off a kind and I won the prize
And they all turned out to be you
You brought me 'round when the chips was down
You made the ace of hearts my friend
Now I know I'll never be on my own
I live for tomorrow, 'cause yesterday's gone

I'm a hot shot gambling man
Playing my game the only way I can
I'm a hot shot gambling man
Comming on home to you
Yeah, I'm a hot shot lover
Comming on home to you, yeah, yeah

A fortume lost when the dice where tossed
A spin of the wheel was my friend
I though I knew when the bridge was crossed
Forget about tomorrow gotta live for today

I'm a hot shot gambling man
Playing my game the only way I can
I'm a hot shot gambling man
Comming on home to you
Yeah, I'm a hot shot lover
Comming on home to you, yeah, yeah

Yeah, I'm a hot shot gambling man
Playing my game the only way I can
Yeah, I'm a hot shot gambling man
Comming on home to you
Yeah, I'm a hot shot lover
Comming on home to you, yeah

Hot shot gambling man
Yeah, I'm a hot shot gambling man

not a bad song plenty better on the album not the same with out brian and he wasn't the same with out them.might have been different if califonia nights was a hit with steve singing..they should have replaced him with an out and out frontman.dio was mentioned it worked for sabbath purple. Fleetwood mac ac-dc Manfred man and a few others might have worked for them we will never know.

John O'Brien The whole album is underrated and the one after it is even better

+John O`Brien Let me quote you from the (best) book on Sweet,Mike Duthie`s `No Matter What They Say`,on the topic whether Brian Connolly shoud`ve been replaced,or not....
`Discussion took place within the Sweet as to whether there should be a new lead singer to front the band on stage. Andy said of the notion Brian should have been replaced, `Steve stepped up and said: `We`ve always said we don`t need anybody else, now`s the time to stick with that!`,then stressed that he wanted to be the lead singer, and from that point of view i had to back down and say, `Fine.`` You know the Sweet isn`t an autocracy; it`s always been a bloody democracy,so you have to abide by it and give it a go!`
Andy continued: `I spoke with Ronnie James Dio by phone in January 1979,-- looking back, it may have worked out but we decided to stay as a three piece. You know the worst thing about it all,is that once the chance is missed you cannot go back and unfry the egg,so to speak.`
US power pop wunderkinds Cheap Trick toured the U.K. in January 1979. Andy Scott admitted, `I also remember bumping into their blonde heart - throbe singer Robin Zander in a club in London, when he was over to promote their hit single `I Want You to Want Me`, saying to him : `Brian`s gone; i know you`re going to say NO!,but you would be bloody ideal to become Sweet`s new lead singer!`. And Robin went, `I am so flattered but i cannot do anything....`
Apparently the idea of Graham Bonnet as a replacement was also considered after producer Pip Williams mentioned his name to Sweet. Graham met Andy,Mick & Stevie in a London pub across the road from Marquee Studios in Tottenham Road where he was recording his solo album `No Bad Habits` with Pip Williams. Sweet and Graham chatted for about an hour but nothing ever came of it. Graham said he was keen,at the time,to concentrate of his solo career. Ironically Graham Bonnet had been snapped up by Ritchie Blackmore`s Rainbow in April `79....
Andy continued: It`s not that we didn`t want an experienced person. Because, i actually think it`s only an experienced person who is going to be able to step into a proffesional band like The Sweet and hold his own.
I actually think that Steve wanted a three piece, when he said: `Why don`t we carry on. At least if we stand or fall it`s not by any inadequacy or inadmission about anything else.` Andy said: `Ẁell,i had no argument.....Sweet became a three piece.`

Steve Priest Sweet, not bad not good...average rock song, but they should hveput more elements on this song as fr as the whole album Water´s Edge..never was the same since Brian left. Steve would have replacemented by another singer, cos he is not the main man of the band, never was.
