How timely this message is given my circumstances over the past 4 months. Gira and co give yet another masterpiece. Awesome.

Swans son ya una institución, una banda de post-rock muy personal. su sonido de catedral es grandilocuente y se expande como bóvedas espaciales. No suelen decepcionar, pero este no es un buen disco, a mi particularmente me ha decepcionado. Michael Gira, líder de la banda, ha querido marcar un nuevo punto de inflexión en su proyecto, tanto en estructura como en contenido. Lo primero que ha hecho ha sido prescindir de la formación con la que llevaba trabajando desde su regreso al ejercicio editorial, allá por 2010. Por contra se ha rodeado de un nuttrido grupo de músicos elegidos expresamente para materializar estas composiciones, entre ellos Thor Harris o Phil Puleo, ya habían militado anteriormente en el conjunto, otros como Anna y Maria von Hausswolff, Baby Dee, la banda de jazz The Necks o Fay Christen han sido llamados especialmente para la ocasión.
Este nuevo experimento "Leaving Meaning" está compuesto de doce temas hipnóticos que superan los siete minutos. Piezas repletas de matices que forman en sí mismas un cosmos con identidad propia, desde "Amnesia" con ese tono de Leonard Cohen metafíscio, "The Hanging man" donde los cánticos se convierten en un mantra psicótico a ese "The nub" con misteriosas sirenas.
Han pasado ya tres años desde el último lanzamiento en estudio de la banda de “The Glowing Man” (2016), Michael Gira ha dado una vuelta de tuerca al proyecto que a algunos gustará, pero que ha perdido fuerza y ruido. Adiós a esos largos paisajes sónicos, aquí las nuevas canciones están al servicio de las letras y caen inevitablemente en la letanía. Sin duda su disco más accesible, también el menos arriesgado.
