Suzanne Vega - Cracking Lyrics
It's a one time thing
It just happens
A lot
Walk with me
And we will see
Ah...
My footsteps are ticking
Like water dripping from a tree
Walking a harline
And stepping very carefully
Ah...
My heart is broken
It is worn out at the knees
Seeing blind
Soon it will hit the Deep Freeze
And something is cracking
I don't know where
Ice on the sidewalk
Brittle braches
In the air
The sun
Is blinding
Dizzy golden, dancing green
Through the park in the afternoon
Wondering where the hell
I have been
Ah...

Suzanne Vega Cracking Comments
I spent the summer of 1985 listening to this album. Such a great time.
Wundervoll
so wonderful she changed my life
bon sang
Still a shining light:)
This album was life changing..words would not describe it
Room for 222.
and something... is.. cracking... I don't know where. The sun, is blinding, dizzy golden dancing green, thru the park in the afternoon... wondering where in the HELL I have ben... my footsteps are... broken. A lot.
Walk with me, and we will see what we have got.
I used to be strong.

I have been intrigued by Suzanne Vega from the moment I heard this song over 30 years ago. It still gives me chills.
me aged 17 in 1985, left home for the first time, quietly going mad with schizophrenia in a Scottish autumn/winter. Yep, this song really spoke to me!
scottish winters are tough. i dont miss them. Similar memories of this so
ng but happier than yours i think.
One of my very favourite songs ...
Such a beautiful album. I think it's her best after 99.9 degrees.
Robert Smith of The Cure admitted a few days ago on BBC Radio 6 Music that he liked Suzanne Vega's debut album so much that he ripped off one of the songs for an old B side of The Cure. The melody of "Cracking" is similar to "2 Late" from 1989: https://youtu.be/OJIeEIwZJtk
TCDB I just listened to that song by the cure, it's really good! I feel like i should say thanks, thanks!
You're welcome! :) I'm happy to hear that you like it. Me too.
This is so haunting
One of my all-time favorite albums!
the most beautiful artist
Laurence Cooper, I'm in love with her.
This girl gets right inside of you. She just has a way that's so precious and so true.
She talks of the human condition and our fantasies
wondering where the hell. I. have. been.
wonderful explanation of this song by suzanne in the 1987 southbank doc.
Yes I remember watching that particular one, it was shown late on Sunday Night.
in 1985
I got this in 87 as a 22 year old I thought to myself then, its not your usual pop song ...
Having suffered from mental health issues in my latter years, this song is so profound!.
the last verse is very, very pure
thank you, becky :-)
it's a one time thing
it just
happens
alot
Thank you for posting this touching song. It's one of my favorites by her...
All time favorite song from my childhood.
