Susan Boyle - Lilac Wine Lyrics
I lost myself on a cool damp night
I gave myself in that misty light
Was hypnotized by a strange delight
Under a lilac tree
Put my heart in it's recipe
It makes me see what I want to see
And be what I want to be
When I think more than I want to think
Do things I never should do
I drink much more that I ought to drink
Because it brings me back you
Lilac wine is sweet and heady
Like my love
Like my love
Listen to me, I cannot see clearly
Isn't that she, coming to me
Nearly here
Lilac wine is sweet and heady
Where's my love
Lilac wine, I feel unsteady
Where's my love
Listen to me, why is everything so hazy
Isn't that she, or am I just going crazy, dear
Lilac wine, I feel unready for my love
Feel unready, for my love

Susan Boyle Lilac Wine Comments
Extraordinarily beautiful 🌸🌸🌸
Nat ! This belongs bto ELKIE BROOKS.
This is a beautiful version because it's a beautiful song by a crystal voice. Nina Simone's version is so sensual, the earth itself. As the writer she knows the song. Miley's version has some great bass lines. But. Jeff Buckley's version, set in the French movie "Tell No One," is incomparable. Find that movie and watch it. His rendition is extraordinary. Don't judge until you've heard him do it that context. If you like this song you won't be disappointed.
The best version is by ELKIE BROOKS.
It was written by James Shelton
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilac_Wine
not so deep than buckley 's version
listen to Ana Moura version...
I did , it's terrible.
Wait, has she just ripped of the guitar in Jeff Buckley's version (ie the best one :D)??
It's got exactly the same tone and reverb etc...
GoRgEoUs cover photo
emily on the voice season 10 my favorite
+Gail Jackson Mine too!
beautiful..
Marvelous version, Susan!
I love you, thanks.
Very, very sweet...
My God... a wonderful song for a splendid voice. She's my fovourite, much better than Nina Simone and Elkie Brooks...
+Cristian Cretu u kidding right
Anyone can blow Miley. Interpret that as you wish.
Are you kidding me? Nina Simone's version is absolute divinity and insurmountable. Jeff Buckley's version comes in a close second. Ellie's is awful. Dreadful arrangement and lacks the pathos that Nina and Jeff posses. Miley's is okay, but drowned in autotune. This version is passable, but unmemorable.
@TGTSTS ELKIE BROOKS version blows them all out of the water.
Best version is by ELKIE BROOKS
this version doeesn't compare to Elkie.
It's a deadly song
Two words.
Elkie. Brooks.
For gods sake leave it to Elkie Brooks.
No power, sends me to sleep.
+chris jackson you are wrong, go sleep and
Do not disturb others listen. Susan we love you
Lovely version of this song!
This is shite.
How do you know?
@marguer1 It's something called GOOD hearing.
I thought it was because you tasted shite!
@marguer1 We all don't share the same habits.
So what does shite taste like?
I'd forgotten what a great job Susan did on this.
I've seen a video of Elkie Brooks singing it in what looked like a German supper club a few years ago. She was good, but I like the subtlety of Susan's version better. What's Elkie Brooks doing now?
Elkie Brooks is recording and touring, her live shows are great. Her voice is better than ever. Her version of this song was not only good, but great.Nothing M.O.R about Elkie.
What's a supper club ? What you are getting wrong is the it is in a German T.V. studious. I fine Boil a bit boring for my taste.
Elkie Brooks is the ONLY singer to have a hit with this song. Her version in my opinion is the best . The German program you refer to was in a German T.V studio. Only the best were invited on this program . like Elkie Brooks.
That's your opinion and I value mine much more than yours.I realize you have bad taste and are tone deaf.
Are you mad? or deaf. Elkie Brooks has a FAR better voice.
You know I have to say I like Miley's version the best. Her voice is great in that song.
And a much better range.
LOL somebody that is hard of hearing . Elkie Brooks has a much more interesting voice. This is typical M.O.R crap.
Well my opinion Susan has a much more beautiful voice than your Elkie. Deal with it and live with it.
Sounds like she put a nail in herself. YUK !!
Well Susan, another one nailed. What other goodies have you got in store?
If you want amazing listen to the version by Elkie Brooks 1978
Don't get me wrong i love this version but I prefer Miley's because I used to her voice in my generation but this is amazing
So heavenly!!
Miley's version is equally beautiful.
Susan uses the Jeff Beckley background for this haunting song that has been around since the early 60s. First recording of Lilac Wine was by the Bobby Cole Trio in 1963. Some speculate that the lyrics were about a drug-induced hallucination ("Listen to me, why is everything so hazy? Isn't that she, or am I going crazy dear"). And the final line is often different, altering the song's meaning: "I feel unready for my love" or "I think I'm ready for my love." Great song, whoever sings it.
Not that it'd be a bad thing but her voice sounds very young in this
I hate how always when there's a cover of a song there are fights about who did it best.
I am positively surprised about susan's performance, I only knew the song in Jeff Buckley's versio nwhich i always loved and still like best, but I had liked Susan to make a bit more of her own out of it, the instrumentals are very very close to Jeff's..
I LOVE her hair done like this....so very flattering!
Terrible !!
I liked her for about 6 months, but now I think she should sing on a boat.....
Ohhhhhhhh soo goooood!!!!!!
Maybe YOU should learn to read . People expressed their taste and just because it was not to likeing of Boyle fans . The Boyle fans started to be nasty. READ !!! and get over IT !!!
Well said!
Maybe YOU should go back to the beginning and you'll see whose fans started all of this and started by saying terrible things about Susan.
Get a grip!
Maybe if you could read in sequence , or is that beneath you ?you would see , that the negative comments came from your type of people to begin with End OFF.
I guess that Susan's fans just don't understand the rules according to Elkie's fanatics.
Let's see if I have this right.
Susan's fans can't defend her, under one of her videos, but Elkie's fans can not only defend her, they can go to the videos of others singers and bash them. Is that right?
Real class there Jake.
I could bash Elkie but that would be beneath me, I'm much better than that. ;-)
Nothing to bash ? LOL
LOL, at least her fans don't go to Elkie's videos and bash her like Elkie's fanatics do. My God grow up!!!!!!!!!!
LOL look at all the sad coments by Boils irritated fans LOL
WTF is it to you if some people prefer this? Really, how does that affect you?
You have some very, very serious issues and you need to live with the fact that your taste in music means nothing to anyone else. Listen to what you want to listen to and allow everyone else that same option.
It makes me feel bad for Elkie! She's not to blame for having such obsessed fans. I'm sure she'd be very embarrassed by them because they're not doing her any good at all. In fact over the top fans like that actually turn people off.
I think I've finally figured it out. This "zinesilol88" and "Jake Jones" and multiple other accounts are all the same person. They keep going on covers of Lilac Wine and down voting them to promote Elkie Brooks. Please, get a life. This is the most idiotic thing I've ever seen.
Yes this woman can sing !! But nothing like the power that Elkie Brooks puts into this song.
Elkie Brooks is in the "Guinness Book of Records" as the most charted female singer in the U.K. in the last 30years. So she has a HUGE following. And a GREAT voice.Nothing M.O.R about her !!!
Jackie1957able brought her friend. LOL. Now more people know who Elkie is.
If I want to leave comments about this M.O.R. crap I will leave as many as Jackie maybe more if I want. so get over it.
Elkie Brooks is the MOST charted female in the U.K. in the last 30 years. She hates publicity. Just love to sing. No a cheap celebrity. Has the voice to sing Rock, Blues, Jazz. She is NOT just a one trick pony.Elkie is known as " The British Queen of Blues"
My opinion Elkie Brooks has a MUCH better voice.Live with it.This is O.K for the grannies. This is Elkie's hit .
Totally agree Elkie Brooks sings this better, she has a more powerful voice. This is too M.O.R.
This video has 70 comments, 11 of them are by Jackie1957able, all saying that Elkie is better. I wonder why she spends so much time here instead of listening to Elkie.
Maybe because Elkie needs the publicity?
In your opinion. Not in mine.
susan boyle coz you know.. she's a good dancer. :)
This is soooooooooooo Elkie Brooks song. Her powerful vocals are fantastic. Come on ELKIE.
Elkie Brooks does a GREAT version. It was a hit for Elkie in 1978. The only singer to have major chart success with this song. Elkie's voice is fantastic.
What a lovely version of this song, each to their own!!
Personally i prefer Mileys version, but she is aimed at my age range...
Mileys also sounds more modern,,
miley's cover is more better i think... but susan's voice is nice.
This song is great and I really love Susan's voice!!
Beautiful!!!
Don't worry though, I have too much class to say that under Elkie's video.
Thanks. I listened. I like this one much better. SuBo has a much better voice.
No clue. Never heard of her.
I just love Susan singing this song, can't wait for her next album!!
Go Subo go,next up some r+b or pop,up up and away!!
Elkie Brooks does this much better.
Susan, this is a lovely rendition of this song ,do not worry what the haters say!!
thumbs up if you love Beecake's version too.
SUSAN, YOU HAVE AN AMAZING VOICE!
What a lovely version of this song!!
Susan wins against Jeff Buckley, Elkie Brooks and Nina Simone.
Elkie Brook was "covering" jazz singer Nina Simone, who wrote it back in the 60's. Elkie has had an up and down career. Really a rocker and Elkie sang this as though it were a rock tune. Susan sings it, as Simone wrote it, in a sultry, languorous jazz style. Susan's voice is made for the blues and jazz.
@Jackie1957able Awae an beil yer heid ya big poofter!!
@Eamonn20a You never know, would not be surprised if she sings blues and jazz!!
@Jackie1957able Still a plonker I see, taste in music poor if Elkie is best to come up with,Subo can sing any genre!!
One does not have to like an artist to still appreciate their talent. Not knowing the difference and voicing it out loud shows lack of education and perhaps intelligence as well.
I just love this! So dreamy.
Elkie brookes would murder this version of the song, not suitable for heartfelt ballads!!
What a nice and relaxing version of this song,I love it!!
After Autumn Leaves, this is my favorite on the album.
@HarmonSusan Jeff Buckley cover I think, good rendition
first time I have heard this one.. Not her best but a safe sweet song.. She never sounds bad.. Thumbs Up...
