Supremes, The - This Is Why I Believe In You Lyrics

This is why I believe in you
This is why I believe
The reason I can't leave you, boy
'Cause I can't lose the need

There is only one like you (no, no, no)
A cup of coffee just won't do
You do without knowing what keeps my mind blowing
Ooh, boy, I love you so
I love you so

This is why I believe in you
This is why I believe
Feeling more than I can dream
Is it really me?

I'm on the mountain top of pride
With you right here by my side
You do without knowing what keeps my mind blowing
Ooh, boy, I love you so
I love you so

This is why (oh, oooh!)
I believe, I believe (well)
Wop, wop, do-do-do-do, do, do

You know you make me wanna shout, I believe
You know you make me wanna shout
Makes me wanna (I believe)
You know you make me wanna shout
Makes me wanna shou-ou-ou-ou-ou-out!
(Makes me wanna shout, I believe)
(Makes me wanna shout, I believe)
(Makes me wanna shout)

Makes me wanna, makes me wanna
Sing it, makes me wanna
Sing it louder, makes me wanna
Sing it, makes me wanna
Sing it louder (I wanna holler)
Sing it, sing it louder (I wanna holler, I believe)
Ooooh, oh-oh-oh-ooh! Yeah, yeah!
Whoo! (whoo!)

Hey, hey, hey, hey! Hey, hey, hey, hey!
Hey, hey, hey, hey! (Feels like I wanna)
Hey, hey, hey, hey! (Feels like I wanna)
Hey, hey, heyyy! (wanna hummmmmm)
(Wanna hummmmmm)
Let me hear you holler, let me hear you holler
Let me hear you holler, let me hear you holler
Whoo-oo-oo-ooh!
(I'm a believer, I'm a believer, I'm a believer, I'm a believer)
Oo-oo-oo-oo-ooh, ooh, ooh!

Hey, hey! Makes me wanna
Believe, make me a believer
Make me a believer (feels like I wanna)
That's why I'm a believer (feels like I wanna)
That's why I'm a believer (wanna hummmmmm)
That's why I'm a believer, oh, oh, ooh, oh!
(feels like I wanna)
Oh, oh, ooh, oh! (feels like I wanna)
Oh, oh, ooh, oh! (wanna hummmmmm)
Oh, oh, ooh, oh! (I wanna holler)
Oh, oh, oh, ooooh!

I'm a believer (I believe)
I'm a believer (I wanna holler)
You make me believe (I believe)
Hallelujah (whoo!)
I'm a believer (whoo!)
You make me (you make me)
Well (make me a believer)
Ooh
You make me, make me a believer
You make me, make me a believer
Make me (huh, huh, huh)
Make me (well)
Make me a believer (I got the feeling)
Make me a believer (I got the feeling)
Make me a believer (make me a believer)
Yes, I'm a believer (I'm a believer)
I said, I'm a believer (Oh)

Supremes, The This Is Why I Believe In You Comments
  1. S.... ....

This song is far too frantic. Who decided to perform it with the wealth of material available? It's clear that Motown did all they could to kill the group.

  2. k.... ....

I love the 70s Supremes. Truth is, I don’t really remember the 60s Supremes. I think they had some great 70s song, and although the majority on here seems to like the song/performance, I’m just baffled. I think it’s terrible for a dance show. I might have enjoyed it in a stage show perhaps. PS. I think they all look great!

  3. K.... ....

Yikes! Wow, what just happened? But I do love Scherrie Payne

  4. M.... C....

Absolutely horrible Supremes should have never did something like this, "Driving wheel" yes "We should be closer together" yes, this was the death of the Supremes I never liked Sherrie voice I didn't think it was for the Supremes

  5. S.... K....

This is the sound of trying a bit too hard. It's a bit too frenetic for its own good but they did record a few genuine smash singles, the best of which was "Stoned Love". (Was this song here supposed to be inspired by "Shout" by The Isley Brothers? Gotta hand it it to the ladies; they certainly put their heart and soul into this material and moved like the pros they all were!). I bought "Floy Joy", "Stoned Love", "Up the Ladder to the Roof", "He's My Man", "Nathan Jones", "I'm Gonna Let My Heart Do the Walking" and "Let Yourself Go", but I don't remember this one. Didn't care for "Automatically Sunshine". If a record had the Motown label on it I had to at least hear it if not buy it!

  6. K.... R....

    love that lp

  7. m.... T....

Mary was not lazy! She was just not fortunate enough to have a man like Berry Gordy in her life. Mary's husband was a fine ass Dominican whom used her financially! He also beat her and tried to smash a drinking glass in her face.(He was insecure because of her beauty and fame)

  8. S.... ....

Mary & The 70s Supremes were always at the top of the game. What a great surprising sounding tune for them at the time. They could do anything & sound Supreme.. What a Great Classic album.

  9. A.... Q....

Omg.......... is this a JOKE? How tacky could they have been? By this point they really were a JOKE and a parody of a girl group. Anyone who thinks THIS was good, is sorely mistaken. What in the world was that?

  10. s.... ....

You can see why The Supremes drifted into obscurity after the incomparable Miss Ross left.

  11. M.... B....

    WTF
This seems to be the exact opposite of what Gordy wanted. The Supremes all gospely n churchy?
    No!

    M.... B....

Michael B they were trying to compete with the pointer sisters.. you have to stay up to date

    M.... B....

    JSOMERSET994 JSOMERSET994 thats right man.

  12. s.... ....

Now they know they were too old to be on American Bandstand, I didn't know mary was Banging Dick Clark to be on his show. That Mary would screw Satan to be seen on Television lol Those kids weren't gonna buy those old records

    s.... ....

sammy7819 they were in their thirties Mary and Sherrie... average for ninety percent of bandstands guests... get your biased facts Right!

    s.... ....

@JSOMERSET994 JSOMERSET994 - Is that the reason the show was canceled? I see

    s.... ....

JSOMERSET994 JSOMERSET994 Cindy was to old she was FIVE whole years older than mary Diana florence Sherrice Lynda and 15 years older than susaye and yes I said 15

    s.... ....

    sammy7819 I agree

  13. s.... ....

with songs like this I can see why Berry Gordy pull the plug,

  14. R.... ....

My favorite track off of this album! Wish I'd seen this when it aired!

  15. T.... ....

LOVE THIS OUTFITS, they were in the back cover of the "TOUCH" Album/CD!
Black Velvet Bellbottoms, Silver blouse, soft and sophisticated and very 1970's!

    T.... ....

TWTR4EVER ebay had pants like this that said Cindy inside ! $75!!

  16. T.... ....

THE SUPREMES (Mary Wilson, Cindy Birdsong & Scherrie Payne) "This Is Why I Believe In You", from THE SUPREMES titled Album/CD that also has "He's My Man" & "Early Morning Love", both performances can be seen here in YouTube.

The album produced by Holland/Dozier/Holland, brought them back to Motown at Mary Wilson's request, is the most underrated, jilted by their own label (Motown) poorly marketed and no publicity given, but still one of the best recordings of their careers, and still holds its own today, a "MASTERPIECE"!

  17. K.... K....

Please give the date it aired.

    K.... K....

    August 23, 1975 ;)

  18. G.... ....

I always thought this was the oddest Supremes song. LOL ...

  19. G.... G....

Yes, Scherrie is a great vocalist, however Cindy looks too old at this point to be in a girl group.

  20. D.... ....

You sound like an ignorant fool. In the 70's, there were no female groups more successful than the Supremes overall. Some had one, perhaps two popular records, but overall the Supremes had far more.

  21. D.... ....

Between 1970-79 the Pointer Sisters had 4 Top 40 hits. The Supremes had 8! In the 70's, there were no female groups more successful than the Supremes overall. Some had one, perhaps two popular records, but overall the Supremes had far more. The Three Degrees had only 3 Top 40 hits in the 70's compared to Supremes having 8 Top 40 hits. Labelle only had one. None of those other female groups even came close to the Supremes numbers in the 70's!

  22. s.... ....

Diana made it cuz she slept with the right people and was a mean bitch to her "friends"

  23. 4.... ....

    RONETTES!!!!!!!!! RONETTES!!!!!!!

  24. d.... ....

it always amazes me that for those who dont like the 70's supremes, they seem to always ending up watching their videos and makeing a point to comment. if u dont like them then stop watching them.

    d.... ....

Eye love the 70s Supremes .more than the 60s Supremes!!

  25. O.... ....

You're absolutely right! By the time Diana left there were a lot of up and coming, and much better girl groups emerging...and by comparison The 70s Supremes sounded awful. A few tracks with Jean were great, but mostly, as you say, were lukewarm, even boring? Groups like The Pointer Sisters, First Choice, Love Unlimited, Three Degrees (!!) etc etc all brought something new and exciting to the 70s and The Supremes just couldn't keep up, and their ever-changing member line-up didn't help!

  26. S.... W....

Scherrie SAVED The Supremes - what an incredible vocalist!!!

  27. D.... L....

Now who say's that Mary didn't have the talent and pizazz that Diana has? She wouldn't have been in the 60's Supremes if she didn't. Diana made it big because she was lucky and she worked her ass off. Mary didn't have the success as Diana because she was lazy, not because she wasn't talented

    D.... L....

Douglas Lee Diana Ross (and I’m her #1 fan) made it big because along with her stage presence and ambition slept with the boss and stabbed the other members of the group in the back

  28. p.... ....

Broccolbeefed ....you need to visit a BLACK CHURCH and see and feel the soul and spirit
of real singing, and you will understand, this is taken it back HOME baby, sing sing ladys, Ms Ross you are loved, But you never sang like this. Thanks Mary Wilson for all your hard work to keep the group alive
    SING LADYS SING

  29. E.... ....

    God singing!

  30. M.... M....

    Stop it.

  31. M.... M....

    Never saw this before!! Thanks.

  32. p.... ....

This is real proof after Ms Ross was long gone, and I do like Ms Ross, but The Supremes became a real singing group, they are singing up a storm in this clip, and not afraid to try new sounds, here they tap into gospel pop. you can hear 3 voices. To bad Motown did not see the big picture, they had 3 very talented women and did not push them as a group, thank God Mary Wilson has become a real skillful soul singer today. plaese show more clips of the group in the later years ..... peace
