Supremes, The - This Is The Story Lyrics

This is the story
Of my life to be filled with pain
Faces change, but the pattern stays
Still I try
But I don't know why
Like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle
With love missing, lights too big, a struggle to go on
I can't be that strong (ah, ah, ah)

This is the story

I'm just an item in your private collection
But you, to me, are my prized possession
Happiness is eluding me
You stand here betray your feelings in me
Darling, please tell me what's wrong with me,
With me, with me?

This is the story
This is the story
This is the story

I know I'm gonna let you love me again
'Cause I can't stop in my tracks like a train
I can't get off this ride, I tried
Why can't I just die?

This is the story
This is the story
Of my life
Please make it right
This is the story, yeah
Please re-write my story, yeah
Of my life
Please make it right, please make it right
Oo-oo-oo-oo-ooh, story of my life
Oo-oo-oo-oo-ooh, story of my life
Of my life
Of my life

  3. s.... ....

Fantastic time 1970. Great year for music movies, muscle cars and life in America. Best music and talent ever came out of this period

  4. J.... B....

saw them live at the latin casino in 1971 i was seven years old jean terrell shook my hand!!!

  5. T.... ....

THIS IS THE STORY, from the highly underrated THE SUPREMES Album/CD TOUCH is a magical vehicle to the depth, clarity and range of the vocals of Ms Jean Terrell. She always delivered and explored new sounds like "Nathan Jones". Another perfect example is the Jimmy Webb Album/CD were she blows it out of the park with "5:30 Plane" & "Silent Voices"

    T.... ....

I totally agree. Jean's voice is superb and the ''Jimmy Webb'' album was far too underrated. Still remains one of my all-time Classic albums.

  6. V.... D....

l just LOVE this song! Jean Terrell is wonderful on this. So sexy, so innocent and so sad. This song and the entire album is so" Touching"

  7. T.... D....

They are singing this song with so much feeling.

  8. M.... C....

    Fabulous Jean Terrell.

    M.... C....

Micaï. Claude. I agree with you 100%

    M.... C....

    I love Jean

    M.... C....

Jean was the best. Class, looks and a killer voice----just beautiful!

  9. j.... c....

BG distraction and conflicts of one dimensional cause his label to fail. This version of the "S" group level higher than the version they came from. Jean Terrell humbily shared lead with others of the group thanks to the producers seeing them as a group.

  10. T.... D....

This song should had been released as the A side . These set of Supremes could sing . Motown Did not support them.

    T.... D....

Beautiful song and you're right about Motown not supporting them.

  11. R.... L....

    Jean Terrell lead is awesome

  12. J.... C....

The Legendary Jean Terrell earned her SUPREMES legacy. Shame management during this reign failed to comprehend this at Motown

    J.... C....

Jeffrrey Conyers they were lowballed by berry Gordy because he want them to out do his Sweetie pie Di Di.

  13. m.... ....

Superb track from a Superb group. I used to play this to death when I was a Teenager, its strange, I still play it to death even now! Jeans voice is still incredible.

    m.... ....

    I love it too

  14. k.... ....

After I though I heard all their songs I bought a 45 rpm with two of their songs I've never heard.

  15. s.... ....

god what a fucking great album. who is singing lead on this is the story??? all the girls are credited with lead and backing vocals. geez what happened to music. 60s and 70s ruled. was this also the incredible amazing funk brothers playing the music? they have to be the best thing the music world has ever seen.(and heard) nothing compares. i recently watched standing in the shadows of motown movie, and berry gordy, you founded the label. thats all. you fucked the funk brothers, mary wells, florence ballard, holland dozier holland and others out of a lifetime of fame and fortune. there was enough wealth to spread around. you could have made many many happy millionaires instead of a small handful with cheap greedy contracts, cheap royalties payments, salaried musicians, and squabbling for decades over rights, lawsuits etc. most of the writers, funk brothers died broke. really sad

    s.... ....

Jean Terrell sang the lead on ''This is the story'' she replaced Diana Ross in 1970

  16. K.... P....

This takes me back 40 years. Loved the 70's Supremes.

    K.... P....

I love the original Supremes, Diana Ross and the Supremes and the new Supremes. These 3 were SUPREME! Loved them.

  17. K.... ....

Oh, and as hard as it is to pick out a favourite, "Love It Came To Me This Time" is mesmerizing. Probably the best song on the lp.

  18. K.... ....

I couldn't agree more! Some of the best music the Supremes recorded was under the talent of Frank Wilson and Jean Terrell. And, for me the "Touch" lp was the cream of the crop. Jean is stunning. Just about any one of the songs could have been released as a single. Absolute perfection!

  19. t.... ....

    i second that emotion!

  20. h.... ....

Motown dropped the ball on this LP... It was absolutely perfect... This Is the Story, Nathan Jones, Love It Came to Me This Time, Have I Lost You, Time and Love... so many great songs that told such a profound story, beautifully sung by Jean Terrell, Cindy Birdsong, and Mary Wilson. Produced by Frank Wilson. It was genius!

    h.... ....

Touch was one of their best albums I really think Frank Wilson did a wonderful job on right on, new ways but love stays and touch I wish they would stuck with him he was great innovator esspecially with Nathan Jones. I also think the music they did with Stevie Wonder had great potential esspecially bad weather. Bad weather had funky disco sound I also think bad weather should have done better than it did. They were on to something with that song.

  21. K.... ....

most definitely! The lp, "TOUCH" was the best album by the original '70's Supremes! And, Jean Terrell was the groups life-line to continued success! Jean, Mary, and Cindy were the best line-up of Supremes next to Mary, Flo, and Diane! Wish the magic could have lasted forever!

    K.... ....

KAREN commercially 60's Supremes were the best, but 70's with Jean Terrel upfront, Sublime.

  22. t.... ....

i agree! an excellent showcase for THE SUPREMES and particularly the lead vocals by JEAN TERRELL

  23. M.... ....

the first track from touch ! superb.
