Supremes, The - Save Me A Star Lyrics
You're building a private heaven
You're reaching out so far
When you reach your goal
With joys untold
At least
When you finish
Your private heaven
Think of me
Wherever you are
Remember how true
I was to you
And at least won't you
Save me star
Though I'd hate to see you go
A kiss for luck and fame
But if you should stumble
And your heaven tumble
I'll welcome you home again
When you finish your private heaven
Though it be near or far
Once again I'll call to say
At least won't you
Save me a star
Oh, save me a star

Supremes, The Save Me A Star Comments
Who had more depth between Florence Ballard and Grace Slick?
Berry Gordy still could had used Flo and Mary to sang original songs for the B side of records while Diana sing original songs for the A side. The Supremes could had kept their crossover appeal with Diane’s pop flavored voice and would had stayed tuned in with the R&B crowd with Flo and Mary
Florence's voice had great depth, colour and richness. This recording showcases this magnificently. It's a great shame that Motown made very little use of this.
We constantly hear the pushed story that GORDY wanted music to sell to a various people. Now research in the beginning he simply was pushing the white acts on the label to the public. By luck the black acts cherish from the rise of the civil rights movement.
She sounds like etta james
I'd you listen carefully to The Supremes hits it is Flo that gave The Supremes their unique sound. Listen to her background vocals on Marvin Gaye's "Wonderful One". Florence had a unique speaking voice as well. Diana was forced on the American consciousness. She was not the better singer in the Supremes. Diana had drive and that plastic pop image.
Thanks for posting! L💚VE Flo's voice! RIP SUPREME 😇 FLO!
Ross backing up a REAL singer.
Florence Ballard, truly supreme.
KTF up there.
Beautiful Love song sing that song Florence
We miss you Flo. RIP
Wow! I blown away by Flo's voice! So soulful, powerful, rich. She sounds more alto than soprano. Lovely song...she sounded a bit like Mary Wells.
song was flat had no upbeat to it or even as a slow medley sounded dull Her voice was stunning but the arrangement left little to be desired
ms had special microphones made for her flo nvr recieved even a small chance this woman can sing in the vain of patty labelle and aretha
Patti Labelle ad Aretha....um where are those Flo recordings? Lol
Heaven sent us a star, and her name was Florence!
I always liked this track.
This is very early - all four Supremes are here. From here to Ain't That Good News, Flo really came into her own as a singer. Such a a waste of talent.
IN my opinion less a waste of talent more of the industry perpetuating crabs In a Barrel type mentality amongst black folks
Flo was an R&B singer where Gordy was trying to make Soul-flavored Pop records. She would have benefitted from being on a different label, with different management and more raw and Funky R&B material. I hear a belter just dying to cut loose here.
You are absolutely correct. After she realized DIANA was taking the lead she should have quietly left. She might not have really cared if DIANA was lead, but Diana's attitude became unbearable. It' almost like the escape drama. I do not think those Clark sisters are no joke and Kandi did right not to look back. FLO PROBABLY had some mental issues that needed to be death with also. But I think Barry was one of her biggest problems professionally. However, at the time her voice was to powerful and SOULFUL to do what Diana's voice did. Despite that, no other female group could touch them.
Polydor or stax woulda suited Florence
Well Diana says in her book that she thinks Flo didnt want to sing ad much as her family wanted her to. What do ya'll make of that statement? Was Flo forced into singing by her family to make money? Was her heart not really into it?
More Reeves than Ross (more 'earthier').. Thanks for posting!
Such a better singer than Ross
Leki Jolo waaaaaaaayyyyyy better, however, on the song, "Let Me Go The Right Way" Diana isn't in the high soprano range like on their later records; she's more alto/soprano on that song, and she sounds more soulful than girly pop. Check it out.
She is such a interesting singer-this great voice, with it's odd mix of soulful Etta James and sweet Soprano, her sometimes questionable phrasing-bad and great all in the same record.
Loved this cut by Flo.
Sing it, Flo!.
Go flo!!!! #motownforever
i'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Great, thank you for sharing. Love Flo and all of the original Supremes!
