Supremes, The - A Breathtaking Guy Lyrics

One night you held me tight
And whispered in my ear
All night sweet words
I never heard
And I believed every word

Next day you came my way
Without a word to say you passed me by
You didn't bat an eye
My darling won't you tell me why
You're acting strange toward me
Why have you changed toward me

Are you just a breathtaking
First sight soul-shaking
One night love-making
Next day heartbreaking guy

That night your love was true
The next day we were through
Your love was gone
And you were moving on
And I was left to cry alone
What have I done to you
Was it just fun to you

Are you just a breathtaking
First sight soul-shaking
One night love-making
Next day heartbreaking guy

Breathtaking, soulshaking,
Lovemaking, heartbreaking guy
Breathtaking, soulshaking,
Lovemaking, heartbreaking guy

  2. R.... J....

Sweet pure and innocent.A young Diana

  3. M.... N....

    Beautiful beautiful beautiful ❤💜❤🙏🙏🙏

  4. H.... O....

Imagine Flo lead this one!!! Mary would have sounded great too.

  5. S.... E....

There are many Supremes songs I never heard, but for me at this late date it is their masterpiece, maybe shared
    with "When The Lovelight....".
It's a perfect creation in general, but Mary & Flo's moody backing and the lyrical guitar make it sublime. Yes,
Diana is great here as well.

  6. S.... L....

I may not like Diana's voice in general. But this is a lovely tune, made even better by her much superior backing singers lol Ooh Ooh Ooh Yeah Yeah 😂 It's A Backhanded, Breathtaking, Soul Shaking compliment from me x

  7. M.... ....

This whole thing about Flo being the best singer was created in the 80s by Mary Wilson and Dreamgirls....before that nobody was saying this....it's bull crap....and just a transparent way to dog Diana...who is appearing in Wilmington, NC in Feb. 2020 and the tickets sold out in 3 hrs. So much for Flo's great voice and her great solo career...I forgot she didn't have one....because "she was a victim of everyone being mean to her"......lol I am so sick of Flo Ballard the Eternal Victim Cult....it is just a way of dogging Diana...you people really don't care about Flo.

  8. R.... B....

I love the Early Motown "Hesitation Beat".

  9. R.... M....

What album was it taken from?

    R.... M....

Roosevelt McCarter "Where Did Our Love Go" album. Gordy released this as a single in '63, but it only reached #75. All the pieces weren't yet in place for the Supremes, but they were getting close.

  10. C.... ....

I was so shocked when I found out of this was Diana Ross. She sounded so different in her early days. She sang through her nose. But this is such a great song.

  11. M.... A....

    I love this cut

  12. F.... 3....

    Florence sounds amazing

  13. b.... e....

    old skool

  14. B.... L....

The Original Title Of This Record Was: "A Breath Taking First Sight Soul Shaking One Night Love Making Next Day Heartbreaking Guy" The edited title made no sense!

  15. E.... ....

*Keanu Reeves has entered the chat*

  16. T.... S....

Are they talking about Keanu Reeves?

  17. J.... C....

    Keanu Reeves comes to mind

    J.... C....

    here for this comment

  18. D.... w....

Diana with that golden voice you can sing that sing all day for me it has true meaning of my last love that I try to forget it,a lovely song, keep singing Diana R.I.P Flo our sister.

  19. r.... ....

Brilliant - have not heard this in several decades

  20. K.... Z....

Flo had such a long chin sort of witchlike!

  21. T.... ....

Excellent words and lyrics by Smoky R.  and the best soulful sound I ever heard that first time I heard it.  You can really feel the plea from Diane's lead voice of a betrayal of love, her voice fit and was perfect for it. This song along with Florence and Mary was so perfectly done it can never be duplicated and I don't think it was never done will last the test of the longest time. Contrary to other comments on youtube about switching Diana lead vocal with Florence or Mary with all due respect to both of them Diana was the best choice.

  22. S.... J....

Yes he was a breathtaking guy but I must have been a breathtaking woman as well. We just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary on October 5, 2018! Ha!!!!! Congrats to us!

  23. C.... T....

I'm a major Flo fan but this IS one of the tracks where Diane sounds good too because she's not doing all that nasal singing through her nose. BUT Florence shines BRIGHT on this. Haters can hate all they want.

    C.... T....

So what is your favorite Flo song....yeah the background singer sounds better than the lead...its an irony for you to mention haters because you are one...just saying

    C.... T....

I totally agree, Diana is so nasal on most songs and she should not have been the main lead singer of the group in my opinion.

    C.... T....

    Flo still sounds the best.

  24. M.... R....

Such a pretty and charming song just like the girls themselves. OMG how pretty in the pink and blue dresses. Sweethearts to die for ! Ooooo Oooo Ooooo ;-)

  25. l.... l....

I think Smoky Robinson wrote this ......

  26. M.... R....

They all sound so beautiful together. Perfection on Earth.

  27. M.... H....

The Supremes will always be the best female vocal group of all time. Why do you think a lot of groups start with 3 members. My favorite was Florence. Her voice was breathtaking. May she RIP.

    M.... H....

That is a matter of opinion...First of all they weren't really presented as a group. They were presented as Diana Ross and the back up singers. That is not a group. And while they may have sold a lot of records, is anyone comparing their sales to the Andrew Sisters? They were huge.

    M.... H....

@luis grant , They were good but always seemed to sing the same style of music

    M.... H....

They started out as 4 memebers

    M.... H....

@mratfauver she left cause she was pregnant and getting married wasn't given her walking papers

    M.... H....

Actually they recorded their first three efforts as a FOUR member group- Flo, Mary, Barbara and then Diane. Diane (later to become Diana) was recommended to the other 3 members by a member of the 3 girls favorite Detroit club group The Primes. The 3 girls auditioned Diane and invited her into the group, which they named The Primettes after their favorite male group. They recorded one record for the LuPine label as The Primettes and then sought out Barry Gordy, again following members of The Primes, who after that group dissolved joined with members of a competing also dissolved group (The Distants) to form The Temptations. Gordy auditioned the FOUR girls and gave them session work as backup/chorus singers until the girls "matured" vocally. He then signed the FOUR girls and renamed them The Supremes and as a foursome they released 2 records on the Tamla label. At that point Barbara left for "motherhood & marriage" and THEN they became a trio.

  28. R.... F....

Florence Ballard was an amazing singer. Here her soft voice is even prettier than Diana's, and we all know how forcefully she could also sing.

  29. j.... P....

Boy if this song isn't the truth

  30. p.... e....

    like stormy

  31. p.... e....

    een echte popcornoldies song

  32. A.... D....

the sound very sexy for a 20 year old with no life exspreieance yet hats Florence in the next verse yeah

  33. A.... F....

This totally sounds like Mary Wells song. I love it!

    A.... F....

Thats probably because Smokey Robinson wrote this and he did most of M. Wells' hits.

  34. G.... R....

in wanted motown to promote florence ballard alot more than i very sad to hear her story. the only songs i was really crazy about were: a breaking taking guy, im giving you your freedom, your heart belongs to me after these the rest were just nice

  35. t.... i....

sad we used to have groups like this now we have.... fifth harmony

  36. J.... D....

    MR YOSIE - PUEDE SER

  37. L.... O....

Florence Ballard's voice just took my breath away once again. What they did to her was merciless.

    L.... O....

Wow. What a fucked up post

    L.... O....

Well damn, Violet. Thank you for taking the to check these fools. (smile)

    L.... O....

@Violet Valentine Who the Hell is Barry? Spell the name right Berry. Sounds like you need more research

    L.... O....

@CeeCee Tracey bitch cant spell his name correct its Berry Not Barry shows her post is faulty

    L.... O....

@Violet Valentine you must be on crack. I suppose it's Berry fault all three daughters is on welfare? Or many stars went to Drugs? David Ruffin Marvin Gaye Eddie Kendricks Rick James Mary Wells All Drug addicts. But its Berrys fault. Put the crack pipe down go back to sleep.

  38. a.... i....

  39. C.... R....

    💗💘💝💞💟💗💘💝💞💟

  40. R.... V....

Smokey Robinson wrote this early classic for the Supremes in 1963 and is one of their best!

  41. S.... L....

Mary Wilson's voice thrills me...would have loved to hear more!

  42. D.... E....

    Fantastic, such dolls!

    D.... E....

    Dean Escobedo FCC

  43. D.... ....

Some of the best girl group harmonies this side of Heaven! The Supremes!

  44. E.... R....

What a beautiful angelic sounding voice , that Diana Ross can sing this song, one of the best by her. The supreme supreme, love this girl group..

    E.... R....

    This is Florence Ballard.

    E.... R....

It is all of them with solo parts.

  45. D.... C....

Diana did a superb job but I honestly would've loved to hear Mary Wilson lead this, I think these songs suited her voice better during that time and even based off of her little solo line in the song she sounded amazing.

    D.... C....

    DeVante Cooley.

    D.... C....

Agreed, I love Mary's voice, it's the deepest out of them, but there's a very sweet element to it
Really it's so hard to choose a Supreme for each song lead, they all sound so good, so, Supreme.

    D.... C....

Anyone but diana hey guys??? Well I think Diana is perfect on this. Every single time a supremes song is put up diana is bashed....all in a polite backstabbing way of course. Viva Diana.....you were/are magnificent.

  46. V.... S....

the best song they ever sang. I like them when they did the old songs, when they got  real famous they began to stink IMHO!

  47. M.... ....

this song has sung Mary Wells  respect for Diana  and Supremes but Mary interpretation for me personally is better

    M.... ....

@mrob75 may be mine fault  and mistake  sorry

    M.... ....

no problem...It does sound like something Mary would have recorded though.

    M.... ....

@mrob75  in Motown   girls girls band  have exchanged   sometimes  song  from mine side  such mistake

    M.... ....

@mrob75 It's the productions they were doing at the time. Just like nowadays where all the girl singers sound the the same

    M.... ....

    @surge2k7 right !!! absolutely

  48. S.... F....

    it can't get any better!

  49. V.... S....

The only song I really liked by her.

    V.... S....

I love these ladies.thank u so much for you beautiful music.your words are so incredible.I sing to ur songs at the top of my lungs.never gonna stop listening to your music

  50. A.... S....

    > MASTERPIECE > PRICELESS <

    A.... S....

Jesus is the sweetest the thing I ever heard

  51. J.... t....

Diana Ross was truly an Amazing person & a success story pulling herself out of the projects of the Detroit ghetto going on to international superstardom and record setting solo success.  If you don't believe this then witness all the ancient haters posting on every video.  I wasn't in her time but this is evidence a person was really a big success the fact that they still have haters!  A

    J.... t....

Diana had charm along w/ talent & determination---love her voice!

    J.... t....

JJ truth No not hate just some that don't understand what made this group international superstars with a sound that continues to resonate thru the ages. They were truly an incredible phenomenon - tremendous credit to themselves and their obvious exceptional talent but also to the brilliant leadership at Motown that guided them to their hall marks of glamor and provided the recording and production support appropriate to their exalted level of talent. Few voices have the power and clarity of Diana, few groups are worthy of such orchestration that adds that additional sophistication and aural richness.

  52. b.... ....

This song is okay but I've heard Ross say it went nowhere.  It took the team of Jean Terrell, Cindy Birdsong and Mary Wilson to take Smokey Robinson written material to the top like "Floy Joy" co-led by Mary Wilson which peaked at number five on the Billboard R&B chart, number sixteen on the American pop singles chart and number nine on the UK Singles chart while the "The Composer" with Ross and Motown's studio backup singers only went to #27 on the American Billboard hot 100 and to #21 on Billboards R&B chart.

  53. s.... ....

this song belongs to my son cisco

  54. C.... ....

Florence's voice is on the original lead vocals of "You Keep Me Hanging On". She is credited for those vocals by every account. Look it up for yourself. Diane did do overdubbed work, but Florence Ballard laid down the first lead tracks.

  55. K.... H....

I have seen Ms. Ross perform this song live on many occasions; She sang it brilliantly each time. In performance, she sounds like the recordings, but better. These stories that people make up to diminish Ms. Ross are ridiculous. They also insult Ms. Ballard. During her life, she acknowledged that she did not like working so hard and traveling away from home and she admitted that she had damaged Supremes shows by appearing drunk. Love the real Florence Ballard, not some imaginary person.

    K.... H....

I saw the video you are right

  56. A.... B....

    Great stuff here!

  57. l.... g....

Calm down don't take it so personal

  58. B.... ....

STUPID MORON! That's what you are. Diana's vocal track is double layered on "Keep Me Hangin' On." Now go shut your ignorant self up and put your foot in your mouth where it belongs. Damn, can't stand people that don't give Diana the credit she deserves. She became a superstar cause you can only keep the genie in the bottle so long. She has 6 number one hits and sold out concert venues around the world to prove it. and numerous Supremes hit which she sang lead on, and 120 million record units

  59. B.... ....

You're absolutely correct. Didn't think they did that in those days, but Diana's vocal track is double layered on KMHO, which is one of the reasons it sounds so full and powerful. Maybe Blondie could cut it, but she didn't have the sound that Berry was looking for, neither did Mary. Blondie's voice was too soulful and Mary's too sexy and soulful.

  60. K.... ....

Not according to one reliable source: Mary Wilson! And, no need to call people stupid. Flo didn't get the chances that Diana got or even Mary. Why is everyone so willing to continue to beat up on Flo? And, as for Diane, I love her, but, let's face it.......her ego is bigger than her talent.

    K.... ....

@ KAREN . Because Flo sounded like Kim Weston, etc. Not what Barry was looking for. She was also very difficult to work with

    K.... ....

KAREN Diana Ross worked like a dog Mary played and Flo drank. Mary wanted Flo out but she lied about it afterwards. Motown was a factory, Berry ran a very tight ship and recorded songs on various artists he liked to keep them on their toes and competitive with each other. Diana Ross had a tremendous work ethic she knew this was a once in a life time opportunity. As Smokey has said Diana didn't have the best voice, was not the prettiest, not the best dancer yet put all her asserts together with her dedication and ability to connect with an audience deliver a song. No one does or better. She opened doors for all the other Motown acts that many just failed to walk through. Jxxx

    K.... ....

Flo didn't come to motown with a drink in her hand. During a time when black people were just starting to move up, Flo was young with zero coping skills and didn't know how to deal with the shit she was being subjected to at Motown by Berry Gordy and Diane Ross. In turn, she began to drink. Mary played because she had it like that. As far as Diane Ross, one thing she COULD do is dance and she did work hard. I'm not going to deny that. But Smokey's right - not the cutest, not the best voice.

  61. C.... D....

they all sound good . all we need is a 2013 female group like them.

    C.... D....

Christine Davis Unfortunately I'm not aware of any contemporary girl singer or girl group that even comes close to the talent and quality of the Supremes. Its really hard to believe. But also its a matter of style and refinement. The contemporary stars take pride in gross vulgarity. They and their fans would have no idea as to the elegance and charm that the Supremes represented. The modern youthful ear craves the vulgar and violent rap and in your face rude lyrics they could not possibly have the slightest connection with the romantic lyrics of the Supremes nor the richness and elegance of the multilevel orchestral and Motown musical background.

  62. M.... ....

Lies all lies. Diana's voice is doubled on You keep me hangin on. You people are so stupid. Blondie as you call her couldn't cut it. Get over it

  63. C.... B....

If you enjoyed this song, you'll appreciate these as well; " Take me Where You Go" "You've Been So Wonderful To Me" " Everything Is Good About You " All Great Supremes Recordings.

  64. S.... ....

So this is the infamous song that Smokey & Diana have talked about several times.

  65. R.... R....

nice cant find music like this anymore,,,,,,,,,,,,,later

  66. D.... ....

    OMG This is IT!!!

  67. r.... ....

Love the harmonies but this wasn't one of Smokey's 'best' written songs. This song sounds like a Mary Wells throw away. 2 bad BG never had the insight 2 have female writers in the company when it was in its early stages.

  68. T.... ....

i just heard that song rith now . me and my dad came home from cruising in his 1949 chevy :) damn i like this song especially when i was cruising in a bad ass bombita :)

  69. C.... ....

@amd02148 Are you serious? YOU hear Diana Ross not carrying a song by herself because that's what you WANT to hear. Why do people not want to give Diana Ross credit for being able to sing? People like you are no doubt the reason she wanted to go it alone so she could PROVE your silly theories WRONG. Who took over songs for her went she solo? Answer that - fly on the wall.

  70. o.... ....

I was born in the late 60's. I grew up on mostly Motown etc.The Supremes. This
group is still rooted deeply in my heart to this very day! Love (& not necessarily in this
order) Diana, Flo & Mary) they were magic to me. I adore most if not all of their songs/
music. A Breath Taking Guy is my fav, At the Cross roads of Love, Stop In the name of Love, Baby Love & Come See About Me follow closely behind. What ever happened
back then, there is no denying they were dazzling together. God Bless

  71. h.... ....

This was the flipside to the Shirelle's "Will You Still Love Me Tommorrow?"

  72. c.... l....

@suedemiddleton mary wilson would've sounded great on this one, i believe, especially since she had that smoky mary wells kind of sound, and this tune is obviously going for the mary wells sound with the phrasing. although, i have to say, i very much like diana's light touch and control on this. she kinda nailed it.

    c.... l....

She really did, and the rhythm is indeed like Mary's "Two Lovers" and others.

  73. K.... ....

@huskymuscles Flo sings along with Diana on the lead of You Keep Me Hangin' On. It is a documented fact. Diana couldn't carry the song by herself, so HDH used Flo for added support. In live performances, all three carry most of the lead. Listen carefully.....Diana's voice is just more prominent as Mary's and Flo's mic's were set at a lower volume during live performances.

    K.... ....

proverbs1824 This is a damned lie! Quit propagating false "wishes".

    K.... ....

@ KAREN .Dumb ass. On the official hit release of YKMHO, Diana's voice is dual-layered

    K.... ....

That's a crock of scrap. Documented where? Only in YouTube fantasy land. Florence is singing in the background with Mary.

  74. K.... ....

@srercrcr True. On the Billboard charts this song peaked at #75. It was the highest they reached until "When the Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes" was released, which finally put the Supremes in the top 40 (peaked at #23).

  75. K.... ....

@SisterSoulLA You are so right! Great song. Too bad it didn't fair better on the charts!

    K.... ....

Gordy did all he could to try to get the girls a hit, even changing the types of songs they released. The one prior to this was called My Heart Can't Take It No More (Motown 1040), a COUNTRY flavored offering! But that, as well as this couldn't dent the charts in any significant way. One of the possible death nells of this offering may have started with the title. It was originally pressed and released with a 16 word title! Yes 1st presses, even white label DJ copies list the title as "A Breath Taking, First Sight Soul Shaking, One Night Love Making, Next Day Heart Breaking Guy". These "full title" pressings are rather rare because when DJ's refused to play it 2nd pressings soon followed with the shortened title of "A Breathtaking Guy". Too late. The songs "opportunity" was history. Success wasn't really found for the group until Holland-Dozier-Holland were assigned to write for them. They but Ross out front with Mary & Flo singing backup and chorus on songs with a bit faster, perkier beat and success was at hand!

  76. S.... ....

Of course this was before they made in big in '64. I have a top 20 weekly list from KSAN in San Francisco dtd July 1, '63....this was at the bottom of a dozen New Release Contenders. The Supremes were still an unknown entity.

  77. C.... ....

Net add - Diana Ross was the equivalent of Smokey Robinson - female QUIET STORM - powerful, smooth, cool, mellow, soulful, funky even - w/o screaming and yelling.

  78. h.... ....

@huskymuscles Sorry, but it is well documented that Flo ghosted Diana's lead vocal on "You Keep Me Hanging On"...not an urban myth...truth...I like both Diana and Flo, so there is no favoritism from me....The group was most energetic with that back and forth was was on display between Diana and Flo's voices, in particular...on "Baby Love" it was Diana and Mary's voices that made that song magic)..There was a fantastic synergy that those 3 particular voices had when mixed together-unduplicatable

  79. H.... G....

@blkshepherd the temptations had hits after david ruffin. :-). not you are right not too many groups go on to have hits after the lead singer leaves.

  80. h.... ....

Florence was an incredible background singer but she did not sing along with Diana on leads. That is another urban legend created because on You Keep Me Hanging on they doubled Diana's voice. There is also a version of You keep me hanging on where Flo's background is brought forward, and no question it is terrific. But Miss Ross is the lead.

    h.... ....

Florence Did Sing Duo With Diane... It Is Written In Some Books.. Just Like Rita Wright Also Guided Jind Of Guided Her On Love Child

  81. S.... S....

@amd02148 what has they to do with this video. this is about the Supremes. says nothing about Patti labelle and the Bluebells or Labelle. Chaka, Natalie? How about sticking with the Supremes. The women you mentioned has NOthing to do with this group..duhhhh and diana is far more famous overseas than any of those singers you mentioned. Stick to the script we are talking about the Supremes. not patti natalie or chaka.

  82. S.... S....

@best1forward Best, its not that I am not giving the background their props. but truth be told the Background does not give the group its Identity. I cant make it no plainer. I have givin all of the examples I can. even the newer ones. Justin Timberlake(where is Nynsnc?) Beyonce(where is destiny's child? old groups. Franky Valie was the Four Seasons, John and Paul WAS the Beatles. Chaka Khan WAS Rufus. Michael WAS the Jackson 5 i dont care what their reality show is. the lead defines the groups.

  83. S.... S....

@best1forward these supremes fans are got their heads so far up mary and flos butt its sad. Lead singers give the group identity. Look at the Commordores, Look at the Mirales. Both had a couple of minor hits after their Smokey and Lionel left. then they Disappeared. Yet Smokey and Lionel went on to become bigger. Every group whos lead singer Left, the group usually Did NOT do well after the Lead left. IF so name one of them.

  84. S.... S....

@amd02148 Bullshit None of those singers you mentioned are Loved as much overseas as Diana. what are you smoking. How many No.1 pops songs did Patti Natilie or Chaka have? None of them have the crossover power of diana none of the ones you mentioned.

  85. S.... S....

@lajas46 Sorry but that still does NOT changed the Fact that Diana Ross had 6 No.1 pop songs Without the Supremes banner. people dont just buy songs for whos on the record. People buy because of the Lead singers voice which they fall in love with. Not the backup singers who generally come and go. Jus like Teddy Pendergrass was the voice of the Blue notes. when Teddy left the bluenotes Never did as well but Teddy did very Well. Its all about the Lead singer, sorry.

  86. l.... g....

@blkshepherd Sorry i have to butt in, but some of their records showing diana ross and the supremes became #1 because people assume that mary and cindy where singing with diana, if they had known that it wasn't diana, amry and cindy people would have not bought their records(I'M ONE OF THEM). MOTOWN SCREW MANY OF THE MILLION BUYERSBY NOT TELLING THE TRUTH.

  87. S.... S....

@amd02148 Why oh why oh why do you people continue to harp that diana had the motown behind her when Clearly songs like My World was just Dianes voice Carring the melody of the song. with the funk brothers. listen to My world with out dianes lead. its not as interesting. diane had more than an ok voice. florence voice was not unique on Any of the songs. Just because you have a High volume and sing real loud dosnt mean its the better voice.if she was great when she left she would have made it.

  88. r.... ....

(As a singer myself) I must admit that the hardest part is knowing what songs SUIT YOUR VOICE (never mind what YOU like) and while Mary, Flo, and even Cindy had good voices that could lead, most Supremes hits were SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED for Diana to lead them..THAT'S WHY the suited HER SO WELL :-)

  89. S.... S....

yeah bout what about the many songs she did carry by herself..like My World Is Empty, You cant hurry Love, Love Child(no supremes) Someday(No Mary cindy or flo meaning anyone could hav sang background and it still went to NO.1

  90. S.... S....

thank you best1forward..some folks just dont get it..50yrs later..as they were formed in 1958. matterss time with gordy..yeah like they aint never slept around..PLEEEEEEzzze.

  91. S.... S....

NOt true. read randy tarbarbellos bio on diana. berry chose diane because of her Unique sound. he stated you can find big and loud on any corner. flo nor mary had voices that would stand outside the supremes. diane voice was and still is unmiskable where as if you heard mary or cindy or even flo on the radio now..u still wouldnt know who the hell was singing. and it was the same back when they were young. their voice did not stand out like Diana or Martha or Gladys Knight. all lead singers.

  92. R.... ....

Mary should have sung lead on this.

  93. R.... ....

No, she got the big part b/c of all the mattress time w/Berry Gordy!

    R.... ....

RUDYNATACHA Sure, whatever you say. Diana had the more refined dynamic powerful yet clear voice. But no question both Mary and Flo (BTW Cindy also) had great voices also. but you had to have a lead and history proved the choice of Diana was the right one. Flo had a great Gospel voice and should have been cultivated along that track as she could have become a superstar Gospel singer. Elvis also had an outstanding Gospel voice. Good Lord what a Gospel music legacy we might have had if Elvis had teamed with Flo !!!

I disagree, you have to see the Supremes for what they were. An vehicle for Diana's superstardom. This song is great because it was unpolished. They sound like a typical 60's girl group. Not until Holland Dozier Holland did they get the slick sound that you all love so much. I preferably like this honest rendition of a song that is buried in the annals of history. It's sweet, sincere and melodic

What part are you referring to? lol

Great song -- nice harmonies. This song proves that they made an excellent trio and there was no need to use the Andantes on later singles. I could see "filling" the sound, but Flo and Mary could handle the vocals with ease. Also, their sound changed later and it was noticed by MANY.
