The whole song is beautiful but that pay off at the end 'Into the ocean glowing' just kills me, it needs the Neil Young n Crazy Horse type jam at the end to alleviate the emotional heft of the rest of the song.

Agreed; it’s one of the best codas ever written, a driving, emotional respite that yet maintains the spirit of the song. Maybe it’s flying away into things unknown, maybe it’s life pulsing onward. Maybe it’s just a great set of chords. :-)

Lost Verses . . .

When I started dating my now wife, I used to travel from North Wales to Manchester on the train every weekend to see her... This album would always be my accompaniment for the journey... Now when I hear it, it always re-invokes that excitement of being in the early throws of an exciting young relationship... It reminds me of being sat in Chester train station, smoking cigarettes and watching people buzz around in their own worlds.

Same tuning. Same tuning from Joni Mitchell's Both Sides Now (Clouds) that inspired Page to write "Thats the Way" . Progression is the same basically on all three. Good call.

Rocky Mountain High.........Colorado. That's what I'm hearing. But I love it. A little John Denver channeled through Mr. Kozelek. 

Kozelek said that the first three chords of Rocky Mountain High are the basis of alot of his songs. This one included.

I guess artists are usually influenced and inspired by other artists. 

Nothing any artist has ever made is truly unique.  Art and music both progress by a combination of borrowing from that which came before, and infusing your own ideas into it. 

I concur. The first time I came across Mark Kozelek's amazing voice, it was 2008 and I was going through a tough breakup. I couldn't believe how beautiful it sounded. It just spoke to me. What else can I say.  Western Wails of pain echoing through some southwest desert canyon beneath pale moonlight shadowed under a cactus. Maybe because I'm from Florida this music makes me dream of some beautiful desolate place far away and my imagination just runs and I escape with it.

Nephew told me to listen oh so glad he did.Simple soft smooth paints a picture that the mind can see an travel to.

It's definitely not silly, we all struggle everyday with our own set of problems. Having beautiful and inspirational music to turn to ease our minds is one of the greatest gifts we could possibly have.

This has to be one of the best balladeer tributes to the afterlife ever written.

Can we stop saying one artists music is better then anothers. All art including music, is subjective. That said, April is the best album of the last decade..In my opinion, of course. :)
