Sugababes - Freedom Lyrics

People always have something to say bout this line-up but this is my fave Sugababes song ever.
1.0 and 2.0 are absolutely amazing, but this song! 😍

This was EXCITING, not the current Sugababes' music (MKS). We deserved this album!

It could never really ever succeed after kicking out the last original member, this was always doomed to fail. Tbh it couldn't of happened at a worse time in the music industry when digital was taking off. It's a shame what happened happened tbh. But I think time has proved which people genuinely had a passion for music. None of these girls that's for sure.

Much as I gave the line up a chance - I think the music is more the problem. This sounds the same as Wear My Kiss. I also feel like there were no clever lyrics either. Songs like Ugly, Change, Overload, About you Now and Round and Round were catchy and clever. The harmonies are kinda all over the place and this is so dub smashy sound wise too. I think this line up had potential but the songs are all about the same thing and the music videos make no sense. If they had given it time maybe the new sugababes could have found some exceptance before exiting but all this production and promotional rush screwed them over. They failed because of money VS quality not just because of the line up change.

If they would have just rebranded they would have gone so far with this new sound. Being attached to Sugababes after the axing of Keisha and then the rerecording of Sweet 7 with Jade really damaged this lineups run. A rebrand would have solidified them as a girl group powerhouse and could have made it possible for them to break into the US market, especially with the direction they were heading with their sound. Unfortunate, because I would have loved to hear more from these three.. poor Jade didn't get the chance to really be heard, but that's the game they decided to play.

@Chris Z I always liked Heidi and they had a lot of success with her but I don't agree there is no Sugababes without Heidi as they existed before her. No one can argue that Heidi wasn't important or wasn't a huge part of the Sugababes success and was even the catalyst to their success. However she doesn't seem interested in having a further pop career now and the 3 original girls have an amazing chemistry and blend of vocals and harmonies so it's very exciting for the original Sugababes to come full circle and reunite!

@Chris Z Had the Sugababes released "Freak Like Me" or "Round Round" as their debut singles they would have had an enormous success with or without Heidi. I love both of the line-ups, the second is my favorite actually and in my opinion Heidi will always be one of the original members somehow but she's not the reason why they had more success with her in the band. The key of their success lies in the more mainstream and commercial sound that they adopted for their second album even though they maintained their signature "dark" sound. "Overload" is a very experimental (beautiful) song, neither the album nor the singles were Pop-ish and mainstream.

I genuinely enjoy every incarnation of the Sugababes. Every version offered something different and I appreciated what each girl brought to the table.

Culpa da Heidi e Amelle que o grupo acabou, o marketing negativo que o grupo teve após elas tirarem a Keisha do grupo. Bem feito, sinto pela Jade que usufruiu por pouco tempo do grupo, ela tinha uma voz muito boa também. Deviam ter tirado Amelle e Heidi, deixava a Jade junto com a Keisha e voltava com a Mutya que o grupo estaria bombando até hoje.

This song should have been released as an official single it’s a great tune. A great shame Sugababes 4.0 never really got the chance to make it but then I don’t think Jade was s good replacement but I would love to see the Keisha, Mutya, Heidi, Siobhan and Amelle create a group together.

If Heidi, Amelle, and Jade had changed their name and distanced themselves from the Sugababes brand, I think they could have had a decent run. But getting rid of Keisha tarnished the Sugababes brand and legacy, so no matter what they did moving forward, it didn't matter to the GP.

even though i dont like their line up and should not be called as sugababes. I like this song. too bad it was overshadow by controversy surrounding the girls so it was not given too much of a promotion. this song has so much potential.

I liked this song when it came out, but looking back at it, it wasn't great. Without Mutya and especially Keisha in the band it just wasn't the same. Not saying this is terrible, it's just kinda generic and doesn't sound like the Sugababes anymore.

Sweet 7 was originally recorded with Keishas vocals so when Jade came in, her voice didn't fit well to the songs. But hey no bad feelings i like MKS as well

I remember loving this song but I wish they would've rebranded themselves and chosen a new name cause I think they would've been better received as a 'new group' then trying to carry on the 'Babes name without any original members cause Jade could SANG but so different stylistically than Keisha...

If the management had done theire Job right, I'm sure this would've been a huge hit. The sound is really good!

It had nothing to do w/ management. These girls were promoting this single HARDCORE (no pun intended on the second single name), the big radio stations, BBC, Radio 1, etc., weren't playing the song (local radio stations were). There was still too much drama regarding Keisha's departure, and Keisha wasn't really helping the situation, she was running her mouth. This should have been a "buzz" single OR they should have quickly recorded a new music video and did a double A-side

And I still don't think jade suites being a sugababe

Sean Devlin She is too pretty and her voice is too good to be in a girl group. She definitely should have stayed solo.

You can't continue a brand with no original members. Had they changed their name, it would've been better received. Mutya complimented Keisha's vocals, when those two left it wasn't the Sugababes anymore.

It's their attempt to make a new Freak Like Me. It's not a great song, but it's not a bad song either. Maybe with radio support they could have released that album.

I think it was a real shame this was only released as a promo single - if it had got the air play on radio stations etc I think it would've done quite well, its a really good song (in my opinion).

Does anyone here like both MKS and the sugababes? because I think their both brilliant in their own ways. MKS are more creative and make music personal to them where as the sugababes are more fun and have a better stage presence with all of them being sexy as fuck and voices like angels. From what iv heard MKS's album is gonna be amazing and from the sound of freedom the sb next album would have been really good to

It's a shame that Sugababes 4.0 didn't even get a chance to put out more music. If this was their new sound and musical direction I think they might've had some success. I believe that comparing the two groups is also unfair: fans of the original line up and most probably Mutya Heidi and Keisha will always favor them mainly due to their success. I love the group and would've supported both MKS and Sugababes 4.0

They have good producers, the issue was the drama surrounding the girl group and how Keisha was axed. Instead of Keisha leaving like a lady, she left like a bitch, that put a wrench into the Sugababes brand.

Maybe they should have called themselves something different from the Sugababes.

Too much money was invested in that album. by Island Records and Roc Nation for them to just toss the album. I think re-recording Jade's vocals was the right thing to do. I think where it failed was Keisha making a fuss, I get she was upset, but she also burned bridges career wise doing what she did AND, the album leaked WAY before it's release, so that did a lot of damage for physical sales.

If I'm not mistaken, the two groups aren't here anymore (or yet) because the original Sugababes is trying to get their band name, plus the Sugababes 4.0 may have not sold much, so everything has been on hold... Are we not ready to let go of Sugababes yet? Me no, they all have something to offer...

Jade had a good voice she may not be the first person you think of when someone says "Sugababes" but she had the potential there and deserved a few further single releases to show what she had to offer.

I felt like this was the line-up w/ the strongest vocals. People say the first line-up had unique vocals, but in reality, the fourth line-up has unique vocals as well. Heidi is that high saprano, Jade has that powerhouse vocal sound, and Amelle has that husky smoker sound - how many girl groups have that vocal range? Each line-up brought a new sound, which I loved, but this fourth line-up brought that powerhouse vocal sound that Keisha tried to do, but couldn't deliver (not dissing Keisha's vocals).

+ Matthew Keisha tried to do? Keisha is indeed a powerhouse and easily out sings her band mates. Only Jade could probably compete, she's a strong singer yet sounds very generic. Keisha sounds distinct and unique. The second line-up had the winning formula vocally speaking I.e. Mutya's sultry warm voice, Heidi's Pop sweet tone and Keisha's strong vocals.

My Precious she has a powerful voice and great vocal technique...but compared other 5 members, I think her voice is ‘formal’ and ‘normal’...I mean this industry doesn’t seem lacking powerful yelling vocalist ( you can find a lot of them in different reality shows) , like Jade, but people would remember some unique voices.. And the other 5’s voices are more recognizable
