i feel like this finally captured how i feel about the holidays and now im crying thanks (like, actually thanks, i needed a catharsis cry tonight)

It's interesting how the song is written in present tense yet the title is in past tense. I think that adds power to the optimistic line "In time the snow will rise" because the narrator correctly predicts the tensions within the family are only temporary. It's these little touches of humanism that make Sufjan one of the best songwriters around

My brother and his 5 friends went on an into the wild vacation in the southern Norway. One day they went fishing, but then the storm came and turned their boat upside down. 4 of his best friends drowned, he survived only by the help of his friends help. All hope seemed to have left them, but they got out of it alive.
about 6 months later at christmas my brother sang this song, never have I heard such a beautiful cover of it...

@Hellsbells1993 Her name is Shara Worden and she has a band called My Brightest Diamond. Not only does she have an amazing voice but she's also a great musician. I recommend a cover she does of Nina Simone called Be my husband, look it up! But all of her music is just great.
