Sufjan Stevens - Seven Swans Lyrics
We didn't sleep too late
There was a fire in the yard
All of the tress were in light
They had no faces to show
Seven swans, seven swans, seven swans
I heard a voice in my mind
I will try, I will try, I will try
I will try, I will try, I will try
We saw the dragon move down
My father burned into coal
My mother saw it from far
She took her purse to the bed
I saw a sign in the sky
Seven horns, seven horns, seven horns
I heard a voice in my mind
I am Lord, I am Lord, I am Lord
He said, I am Lord, I am Lord, I am Lord
He said, I am Lord, I am Lord, I am Lord
He will take you
If you run, He will chase you
He will take you
If you run, He will chase you
'Cause He is the Lord
'Cause He is the Lord
Seven swans, seven swans, seven swans
Seven swans, seven swans, seven swans

Sufjan Stevens Seven Swans Comments
You know that thing that gives you the chills and puts the fear of God in you? No? Well, hear it here.
Brilliant.
I am Christian and I always loved such music, but couldn't find a Christian music like that. I have been looking for this for a long time. It is so perfectly dreamlike!
(If what, sorry for my English - I'm Ukrainian)
Ideal song for lord of the rings
i randomly heard someone else trying this song and I am saddened by it. this is the only true version of this song... perfection happens once. imitation will never achieve such perfection.
Seven swAns......
I get chills. This shit is Biblical!!
With all due respect.
I just heard this song for the first time and I felt like I was going to die
Melissandre wrote this song.
I used to listen to this song EVERY time I was going to read The Name of The Wind (I read it 6 times), but this was like 10 years ago. I spent the whole week trying to remember the name of this master piece, and I finally found it!
Great book. I think we might have to give up on book 3 ever coming out tho
Never heard a banjo sound so haunting

Ray Donevon turned me on to this artist. Seven Swans is so beautiful and haunting, don't you think?
Doesn’t get better than this
uyuduk, beraber, ayrı, ölü, genç, kahkahalarla, soluk soluğa,, 7ocak18
My computer crashed after : "I will try, I will try, I will try
I will try, I will try, I will try"
Thank you Ray Donovan!
This is clearly about a Dragon Lord in Krynn burning down some peasants
That isn't what he said but good theory nonetheless.

Yup, Ray Donovan lead me here; great song.
Sufjan Stevens, huh? Wouldn't have recognized him, only have his album 'Age of Adz', which is ... different...
yeah, all his stuff from before that is basically "futile devices", with some songs being more pop like.

Never heard of Terry or Ray. Just here because I like good music.
this whole album is so so so underrated
It's an amazing album. Beautiful, honest music. I feel privileged for having heard it.
Ray Donovan guide me here
I don't know who this guy Ray is ?? But I heard a brilliant track by Sufjan called "sister" on an internet radio station called SomaFM around about 2004. Then , I think I downloaded individual random tracks from Limewire ( LOL ). This being one of my faves that I haven't heard for about 2 or 3 years. I think he has an amazing amount of talent . He is not so well known here in England and a few people here don't like the "god"stuff. Personally ,I ignore it , it is very mild and doesn't stop him from making some amazing tracks that I will always love. I mean , it's not like that awful laughable christian rock . Also , being an atheist doesn't stop me liking a lot of gospel music as-well. Good music is good music ! ( off to google Ray Donovan ,now to see what all the fuss is about )
This is so good it makes me cry!
I am lord, ya ya ya
1.50 beautiful
Am I the only one that's here because they just fucking love Sufjan Stevens
Love him. Loved this song even before I saw him open with it in 2016. Now I am obsessed.
Yes, you are quite special.
Nope me too
Me (from Holland) totally taken in by his voice.... haha. Love from Leyden.
Maija Starr Yes. You are the only one without an agenda.
"I was into this song before ray donovan"
No one cares. Liking music isn't a contest.

He doesn't have as much mojo as Sufjan
hopefully nobody else you fucking tool
something almost similar to Suspirium, I can totally hear it. he could do this song justice
I fucking love you, Terry.
You think I'd ever let anything happen to you? [Sufjan Stevens' "Seven Swans" playing] So what did it take? How much am I worth on the street? What? What did it cost you to get me out? Nothing, Terry.
It didn't cost me a fucking thing.
Thinking about the cost...i wonder about that word called...SOUL.
Terry is free let's party!
RAY RAY , thanks to the people to bring out this kind of song up from the dead for me ;) very nice ;)

Powerful song. Good job Brother Stevens and Ray Donavan for putting me on to this.
He is the Lord. Makes me want to get my life together. Thanks Ray!!

RAY DONOVAN
@Conor O thats what she said
@Conor O life is full of disappointments
@berry nutter damn yes !
fuck off
ya ya ya
God sounds like an asshole in this song.
I don't mean to bicker, but doesn't the seven horns in the sky refer to the seven trumpets of the angels? And after the seveth one, God aka Jesus shows up on a horse? sorry, just confused now
The "dragon"moving down is definitely the devil (Revelation 1:13). During the end times, there will be an ant-Christ that will claim to be the Second coming of Jesus, or another messiah. This man will play a huge role in politics, and will create a one world government. many people will be deceived. People who worship the anti-Christ will be forced to get "the mark of the beast", which shows that they are loyal to him, and it will allow them to buy and sell. Anyone who refuses to worship him (people without the mark) will be killed, hence the lyrics:
He will take you
If you run
He will chase you
He will take you
If you run
He will chase you
Because he is the Lord
However that could also be an incorrect interpretation, considering I've literally just found this song, haha! It might also be the fact that God is so almighty and powerful, being I his presence is terribly humbling. Not only that, but He loves us so much, that even when we don't seek Him, He shows Himself in so many ways and brings us to him. God's not willing for any of us to perish, and he wants us to have everlasting life through Jesus Christ (John 3:16)
OR it COULD be talking about the final judgement, which NO ONE can escape. That actually makes a lot of sense to, and come to think of it. In my opinion that one is more likely. When he pours his wrath on all the wicked of the world, no one will be able to escape, and if they try, the Lord with catch them.
Then you should check out Randy Newman's "God's Song." Whoa. Hard to believe the "You Got a Friend In Me" guy can write something that dark.
iheartJesus It can be both.
This album was produced by Daniel C. Smith of Familyre Studios in Clarksboro, N.J. 08020. When you are ready to record your album, consider Daniel. Lenny Smith
Feelin gooooood on a Wednesdayyyyy
Feeling cute today...
I am Lorde yaa yaa yaa
Regardless of your faith this song is chilling and beautiful.
hotelmario510 Cause he is the Lord.
I hope he keeps his muse close to heart, cause we need his focus on life.
well its about time I hear great music:) yeahhhhh keep it up
Thought he was saying 'Time Lord' until I looked at the lyrics here c.c
It is the power of the music. This song has strange effects: I could never learn to play any song ever on the guitar and all of a sudden I'm learning this one really fast.
Disputing something is not the same things as proving its falsity.
wow...truly beautiful voice!
What's the chance that the god you believe in is the right one, out of the thousands humans have worshiped in our 200,000 year long existence
Read "Letters from a Skeptic" by Greg Boyd. Super easy read.
"No, I am not an existentialist. Sartre and I are always surprised to see our names linked..."
- Albert Camus
But yeah you're right. Whether he was existentialist or not he never said that. And no matter who said it, holy shit that's dumb as hell.
I'm fairly certain that was Pascal. I'm pretty sure Camus didn't believe in God.
"I would rather live not knowing things than have answers that might be wrong."
- Richard Feynman
I can't get enough of this song, it's so so good.
I love this song! One of my favorites of Sufjan:)!
Wow, gorgeous song. It's weird how I've never heard of Sufjan Stevens, you would assume everyone should know about him, he is amazingly talented!
Some of his other songs are also awesome.
No music is meant to be religious, unless it is actually mentioned in the music. But the true meaning of a particular song is up to the listener to decide.
Caveat: I am not a scientist myself, but have extensive education in the sciences, nonetheless. My main thought here is the possibility that perhaps (although I hold out little hope of that, realistically) people could learn simply to be rational in their thought and discourse. If only people could be as fervent about truth and justice in the world as they were about dogma, the world would assuredly be a much better place... oh, dream on...
