My father died in 2015 and this was the soundtrack to my grief. Today (five years later) I decided to give it a listen again thinking that enough time had passed that maybe I could handle it. Apparently I can't. I was in tears thirty seconds into the first track.

this entire album is just so beautiful but i literally fell in love with "drawn to the blood"... i just don't know how it happened

this album is made to please all the heavy hearthed broken souls looking for relief.

I don't think there's a single song on this album that doesn't bring me to tears. This album hits me so hard, after losing my father 10 years ago and now my mother back in '18. This whole album is amazing therapy.. Fourth of July (or I like to say the Sixth of July) hits super close to home, and I'm so thankful I can listen to something that helps convey my feelings. Thank you, Sufjan Stevens.

Right now it'd be nice to lie down in a field somewhere warm and watch fireflies at night, or clouds in the day, feel the breeze and the sun, look at butterflies, listen to pretty music, feel the grass in my fingers, and play with my kitten. I love you.

That was intense, really intense. Well, not really intense, but pretty intense.

this is about death and birth and family and generations. These are such primal fundamental laws that are hardly ever singed about. Few can get the grandiosty of these things and how simple and natural these cicles at the same time. We hear so much music about citys, parties, relations, drugs and depression that are so complex and so small at the same time ??? Is really refreshing hearing about simple grand things in a beautiful out of this world voice. This album gets me in a state that i rarely tap into, like losing a relative or friend, and wondering about how big simply breathing is and how fundamental it is at the same time, and what do we do with our time.

my heart is breaking tonight.

As a good friend of mine once said, "Sufjan Stevens, why do you gotta be so sad all the time?"
