Sufjan Stevens - Calm It Down Lyrics
[Serengeti:]
All right
When you feel
Like you just can't stop
Jumping
When you feel
Like you just can't stop
Sending telegram
After telegram
And when you feel like throwing (All right)
All your books in the air
You need to catch it
Just catch it
When you feel
Like you just can't stop (Can't stop)
And burning shit (wait a second, wait a second)
[Hook:]
You need to calm it down
Calm it down
You need to calm it down
You need to calm it down
You need to calm it down
You need to calm it down
You need to calm it down
Calm it down
You need to calm it down
Calm it down
Calm it down
Calm it down
Calm it down
You need to calm it down
You need to calm it down
You need to calm it down
[Segue:]
C-c-c-c-c-c-calm it down
C-c-c-c-c-c-calm it down
C-c-c-c-c-c-calm it down
C-c-c-c-c-c-
[Serengeti:]
And when you feel (Like what?)
Like you just can't stop (Why's that? Why's that?)
Chasing your dreams
Impossible dreams
Impossible dreams
And when you feel
Like driving your car (Nope, nope)
Into a telephone pole
Just stop it
You got it (Hit the brakes)
And when you feel (Come on)
Like fucking shit up (Yeah)
Let's fuck shit up
Let's fuck shit up
Let's fuck shit up (See what happens if...)
And when you feel (How do you feel?)
Like you just can't stop (My bad)
Talking shit about each other
All the time
All the time
[Hook:]
You need to calm it down (Calm it down)
Calm it down (You need to calm it down)
You need to calm it down (You need to calm it down)
You need to calm it down (Calm it down)
You need to calm it down (Calm it down)
Calm it down (Yo, take it down)
You need to calm it down (You need to calm it down)
Calm it down (Just take it easy)
You need to calm it down
Calm it down
Calm it down
Calm it down
Calm it down
You need to calm it down
You need to calm it down
You need to calm it down
[Bridge:]
When your fists don't fly (Yeah, calm it down)
When your grips don't got (OK, calm it down)
When your twerps don't tweak (You gotta calm it down)
When your perps don't peep (All right, calm it down)
When your hips don't dip (Yeah, calm it down)
And the kicks don't hit (Calm it down)
When your ships don't ship (OK, calm it down)
When your life don't life (Just calm it down)
When your mix don't match (How about calming down?)
When your rips don't patch (Take it easy)
When your keys don't lock (Just relax)
When your beats don't knock (OK, OK, yeah)
When your dogs don't bite (Calm it down)
When your bull don't fight (Just take it easy)
When your time stands still (Just calm it down)
Can you tell me how you feel? (Just)
[Sufjan Stevens (Serengeti):]
I'm on my own two feet
But I'm not standing upright
Mine is the pressure
Mine is the pain
(You need to calm it down
You need to calm it down)
Was it the drugs I take?
(You need to calm it down)
Was it ambitious outbreak?
(You need to calm it down)
Mine is the fury
Mine is the gain
(You need to calm it down
You need to calm it down)
Shall I account for peace?
(You need to calm it down)
Shall I resist it my way?
(You got to calm it down)
Mine is the glory (You got to calm it down)
Mine is the praise (You got to calm it down)
(You need to calm it down
You need to calm it down
You need to calm it down
Calm it down)
Now that I feel that shame
I've got every reason to persuade (Calm it down)
Mine is the problem (You got to calm it down)
Mine is the pain (You got to calm it down)
[Son Lux:]
I'm on my own two feet
But I'm not standing upright
Mine is the pressure
Mine is the pain
Was it the drugs I take?
Was it ambitious outbreak?
Mine is the fury
Mine is the gain
Shall I account for peace?
Shall I resist it my way?
Mine is the glory
Mine is the praise
Now that I feel the shame
I've got every reason to persuade
Mine is the problem
Mine is the pain

Sufjan Stevens Calm It Down Comments
This videos comment section is pretty dead but amazing song

Love this band!
Pretty sure about this though...
You have: "when your fists don't fly" pretty sure it's "when your flips don't flop" though your interpretation makes more sense in a way. But he mentions "when your grips don't got" right after that. Makes sense from the foot then hand ref.
More!!!
"Calm it down" is one of Geti's go-to tropes. As the character Kenny Dennis, he says it a lot. Good thing.
This sounds like a Rick and Morty song...
Brilliant drum layering, Ryan is da man for that
I love Sufjan Stevens! So many The Age of Adz(2010, Sufjan Stevens) and Planetarium(2017, Sufjan Stevens, Bryce Dessner, Nico Muhly, and James McAlister) vibes!
not a chance. f..k u.🙏
Why wasnt this bigger?
Not shifty enough.
Someone I used to know showed me this. Don't think I ever really listened to it until now– really soulful.
CALM IT DOWN, PIPE IT DOWN T!
this is exactly the same ending as another Sufjan song and i don't know which. If somebody does tell me please!
@Ian Browne 'get real get right' from the age of adz
+Ian Browne It kinda sounds like No Man's Land
When I hear it I think of the "In your favour" from the end of Vesuvius
Take me?
I agree with the people saying Vesuvius. . . but in terms of everything building up to a big loud peak of noisiness and then cutting out suddenly and ending on a very pleasant piano riff . . . maybe it is Pittsfield you are thinking of.
makes me feel like that song
Laid Back - Bakerman

Really got to check this out.
garbage song
You're garbage.
I can't stop listening to this album. So many levels of perfection.
I love how bits of Vesuvius are mixed into this song. Amazing.
LCD Soundsystem rip off.
someone save me from these plebs
thought you were crazy until the cowbell came in :(
@Kitsch Productions WTF is with that profile pic of yours?
You Just need to calm it down...
Is this just because he says "love will tear us apart" at the end of Christmas Unicorn?
I really enjoy this kind of hiphop (semi-emotional, not shallow bullshit with "witty" remarks). Can anybody suggest anything similar to this?
+Seero Boarder giorgio by perfecto, youre welcome
Both LATYRX albums, and either of the two guys from that group. Like the Lyrics Born album "later that day" is maybe my favorite ever. . . and Kendrick Lamar of course is amazing. oh and the Gift of Gab (of blackalicious) album called "Fourth Dimensional Rocketships" . . . sooo good.
@JoshuaKaluba milo from hellfyre records, too.
Thank you for this comment
00:40 a chord progression I like to call "The Sufjan".
There is a lot of Sufjan there
ending is beautiful
I love the way each of these artists is pushing forward and trying something new together. (Keep it up, guys! Musical conversation.)
Not to fond of the first two minutes of this song, but as it goes it just reels me and i then i begin to love it.
I kind of agree... after listening to it once I love the beginning. Its... charming. Feels like a Beck song.
@Patrick Butler
It DOES feel like a Beck song. Damn fine connection.
Geti does sound a lot like Beck at the start of the track.
Calm it down
save yourself the time and skip to 2:20. it's pretty awful until then.
Nah. It's solid even at the beginning.
Pretty harsh Jack just a couple fellas having a time, this commenting shit is fun
I prefer to appreciate the message. It makes the first 2 min awesome.
This song is ok, but I don't think I could get into this music. I like tons of punchlines and quips in the hip-hop I listen to.
Not so much about the bars Devin, sort of non sport ish
What's the Planetarium? Is Sufjan releasing an LP soon?
I can't stop listening to this song and Age of Adz
Such a phenomenal record , I don't even own the equipment to listen to that album
The more music I hear from Sufjan Stevens the less I like him.
Generational elitist? I don't like the sounds this makes. It's a preference thing.
@Donald Fleury It's okay not to like what he's doing, but he's great and I think he's fucking awesome and a total hero to me for exploring his music and just.. Being. He's not doing it to impress you or me, he's doing it to express himself. That's music; that's art. You don't gotta like it, art can make you uncomfortable n'shit. He's phenomenal and God fucking dammit I love him so much every single new thing he releases, I'm a little bit more enthralled and consumed in the awesomeness of his crazy head.
@Louie P.W. I get that and I have no problem with it. It's just hard to find something similar to his old stuff.
Have you heard his new album? I haven't yet but I'm gonna go see the concert soon. I hear it's a lot more like his old stuff from what my girlfriend told me, she got the vinyl.
I don't know why you thought this comment was necessary but thanks for sharing, I guess
Why are there top comments on this video?
To be fair, I do regularly tell myself to shut the fuck up.
I thought it was "When your church don't tweet"
Vote Up if you want a remix!
i mean pass poop on to his being.
literally.
what if we all just.. shit ON sufjan
I think it's just a matter of Sufjan having a larger/more devoted fan base. Nothing to do with the talent of Son Lux or Serengeti being less respected. People just love to sound their devotion.
Serengeti doesn't get enough recognition either, its a shame to see everyone shitting themselves over Sufjan when Son Lux and Geti are fantastic musicians in their own right
I love the Vesuvius "It's in your favour" part.
They've also released some promotional footage on vimeo featuring recorded segments of Earth, Saturn, and Mars.
mmm listen to that vesuvius
they recorded planetarium in studio already but no release yet
Yeah, a month or two ago Nico said they were recording strings for it, in the studio. I assume that means they're doing a studio release...
Anyone else seeing these three perform on Valentine's Day?
No fucking way? That is some of my favorite stuff Sufjan never released. He should do more with Nico Muhly.
I see the joke went over your head..
This is the first I have heard of Serengeti. I already love Son Lux and Sufjan and I can hear plenty of those two in here.
good catch!
I hear sounds of Vesuvius, "In your favor!"
The Planetarium is coming out soon.
I wish Sufjan would just make another solo album instead of this rubbish...
al minuto 3.46 diventa tutto più bello e dopo un po' arriva pure Sufjan
could not stop smiling starting after the 3 minute mark
Calm It Down
god damn
wow that was tight af
love it
guys this isn't funny my grandmother died of sisyphus
Sufjan tells the Walker Art Center (walkerart[dot]org) that they changed the name from S/S/S to Sisyphus because the old name sounded "like the Nazi Schutzstaffel with a lisp." Also, it was inspired by the art of Jim Hodges, whose work includes four steel-clad boulders in Minneapolis...
A little bit of Vesuvius in the background at 4:20 and 4:40.
The Sufjan chord progression right there.
man this is great. love the message.
