Styx - Superstars Lyrics

You've read about me in the papers
You've seen me on the movie screen
You know everything about me
I'm your late night fantasy

But don't think I can't hear you calling
From the shadow of the 14th row
Cause I've had the same dreams you've had
A few short years ago and that's why I know

You and I
We will climb so high
Superstars
Whoa whoa you and I

And we'll just close our eyes
And we'll become our fantasy

Superstars yes, yes, superstars
Step right this way. Everyone's welcome,
We want your dreams.
The offer's simple, momentary immortality

Cause I've seen them all you know
I've seen them climb and I've seen them fall
I've seen them come and I've seen them go
And through it all there's only one thing that matters

Love - And that's simply
You and I
Yes, You and I
For we are superstars

  5. V.... ....

Styx was a group that I remember when I was 12. Grand Illusion came out when I was 15 and I still think it's the best album they've ever done. I like all of Styx music but this album reflects not only great vocal from Dennis and Tommy but the lyrics are outstanding on all the tracks. "Just remember, it's a grand illusion..."

  15. K.... P....

    RIP John Panozzo

  16. B.... B....

As a Moody Blues fan, I always felt Styx had the same kind of feeling for their fans with this album...sending out as much good energy as they could, led by Dennis.

  17. C.... d....

Music so good as a kid that it never leaves the heart! Besides this being a great song, it brings back memories!

  21. B.... S....

Styx were badass in the mid to late 70's they hardly put a foot wrong.Paradise Theater in 1980 was a good one too.But something happened after that with Kilroy and that seemed to be the last anyone heard of them

  22. T.... R....

  24. T.... R....

  25. S.... L....

Great album but the one's that directly preceeded and followed it were better.

  26. J.... R....

    Cape Cod Coliseum... Doug

  27. M.... R....

I especially love how the guitar solo moves from pure pop-rock to utterly surreal tension in the last 13 notes!

  28. J.... H....

Man that voice, so well constructed

  29. B.... G....

Another great song from Styx's best, most complete album.  It's one hit after another on "The Grand Illusion", as this is Styx firing on all cylinders.  They absolutely crushed it when they put this together, and the most amazing thing about it is that the music, and most especially the lyrics, are still relevant today.  I get chills when I hear these songs, these harmonies, these lyrics and the overall vibe of this album.  I cant believe this album (remember when we used to listen to albums!) is 40 years old.  An absolute classic.

    B.... G....

    Brad Girton
To me this album comes way behind Pieces of Eight and their new album The Mission, which is truly a triumph

  30. T.... ....

40 years ago, this fall. Can't believe I've had the album this long.

    R.... C....

    Roman Ciervo great song

    R.... C....

Roman Ciervo I hate this song! I also hate smiling babies, pretty women And beautiful sunsets. Ha ha Ha ha ha

  36. j.... ....

my private little jam on this album.  They were good times in the USMC back in 1977 when this album came out.  Styx, like Queen, Boston, maybe Segar, were the only classic rock bands that were still big during the disco years.  I had everyone of those damn albums during that period.   : )

    j.... ....

Semper Fi Brother. I went in in june 79.

    j.... ....

i was NAVY ,, but Same Damn Time & Jam !!!

    j.... ....

Pink Floyd had some big albums too during the disco era. Even the Stones and the Who were doing things

  37. Y.... A....

Now I have to go listen to Come Sail Away -the next song on that album. How I love Styx!!

  38. A.... g....

    styx = hit after hit.

  39. s.... ....

Wow, just great tune! Isn't it great to have an endless supply of tunes that were the soundtrack to your youth? the double lead by "JY" and Shaw is fanfreakin'tastic! Man, the 70's created so many masterpieces!

  40. S.... Z....

Nice one! First time I have seen him mentioned on Youtube. Collective Soul rocks and he is an incredible bass player.

  41. S.... Z....

This is one of my favorites of them. I was 5 or 6 when this came out but my older brother had the album.

    S.... Z....

I was 12 and my older sister had All of the Styx Albums plus saw them live in Concert.

  42. S.... Z....

And we'll just close our eyes... and we'll become our fantasssssyyyyyy!!!!!

  43. S.... Z....

God that three part Dennis, Tommy and JY harmony gets me every time. And John is a monster on this track. RIP John. Gone way too soon.

  44. n.... ....

Tommy sings the verses/lead here backed the the most dominating vocal ever of Dennis Deyoung. Dennis has a truly gifted voice, incredible.

    n.... ....

    Amen Bro.

  45. j.... ....

Man does this song/album bring back memories! Released on 7/7/77 when I was in the 7th grade and stayed on the charts receiving regular airplay rotation into my high school years. Brilliant teamwork in the writing both musically and lyrically. If only Tommy and Denis could have continued down the same path with the same vision God only knows the phenomenal music that would/could have been written. Albums like this with perfect harmonies, songs with a story and excellent music are timeless.

  46. R.... ....

MAKE IT AVAILABLE TO WATCH ON MOBILE!

  47. B.... G....

my vote has to go to Will Turpin from Collective Soul

  48. F.... B....

Becouse they only play the same ol songs on classic rock radio, the ones that are the most played songs of any band and they kill the ones they do play. I love this song and im glad they havn't gotton ahold of it and played it to death. This is one of their top tunes, it has that styx feel to it that makes them so indearing.

  49. e.... ....

why do they never play this one on classic rock radio? one of my favorite songs

    e.... ....

Heard it today on a Nashville TN station cruising back from HotLanta. First time in 30 tears Plus and took me back.

  50. S.... ....

    Somwhere!

  51. c.... v....

    the best

  52. S.... ....

You kidding me? Paul D'Amour is way better O_o

  53. n.... ....

Justin Chancellor has to be in there somewhere!

  54. L.... ....

how dare you even forget John entwistle, of The Who

  55. M.... T....

    GREAT STUFF

  56. J.... D....

@mrchaserman34 I am the same exact way. Everyone in the world is so wraped up in moder music and have forgoten the classics. I see music as candy. You can only Eat it (or listen to it) when you get rid of the rappers.

  57. D.... ....

@mrchaserman34 I know the feeling. that's why i use iTunes.

  58. S.... M....

I am only 11 and I want the Grand Illusion album for my birthday........ unless Wal-Mart is too f**cked up and only has modern "music" albums.....

    S.... M....

Well 18 year old you.....did you get the album???

  59. S.... ....

    @Mikefreed9241
John Entwistle was good in his own way. The Who were good in their own way, but John and Chuck are still the best!

  60. S.... ....

    @atlosee02
Yo, I'm not insulting Geddy, I love Rush. I'm just saying John and Chuck are better.

  61. M.... ....

    @daviemmproc111
I'd go with John Entwistle over both, personally...

  62. w.... ....

I forgot to mention that the system was so loud (on 10...) the windows were bending in time with the music...such joy...as it still continues to be...

  63. w.... ....

This band saved my overwhelmed adolescent life...way back when I thought all there was to life was the crap that was school and on the world stage people like Thatcher/Fraser/Reagan etc and then I heard Styx at my mates place on his old man's custom 100watt 4 channel stereo...I was saved!...there was light in that sound and it gave me the strength to carry on ... and now I sing my prayers to a rockn roll god

  64. C.... ....

is 2:50 where rap began!? :O (joke)

  65. c.... o....

grand illusion is without a doubt one of the best albums of rock and rolldom.

  66. R.... R....

    THIS SONG IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  67. c.... ....

@eyg2181 Nice! That's the best way to listen to Styx. Wish my dad still had those 8tracks and the player to.

  68. w.... ....

    STYX---''SUPERSTARS''

  69. l.... ....

@StyxFan93 I think you intended to say that Chuck, along with the rest of the band, is truly "underrated." What an incredible album...every song on this disc is killer. I love the high harmonies on this song during the outro...JY and Tommy (and Dennis) hitting the high notes! Nice name, too.

  70. A.... L....

    @daviemmproc111

  71. A.... L....

    @daviemmproc111 false....Geddy Lee....number one bassist ever

  72. A.... ....

Definitely Styx's best album, Just great cohesion and vibe on this entire album. Both Chuck and John Panozzo hardly ever got any of the limelight, but both were so important to the entire structure of then band and both excel on this album. I agree with other posters here, this is a top 100 album of all time. Styx never gets credit for their work, and thats a shame.

  73. s.... ....

One of these music or entertainment magazines once had the 100 best album covers of all time some time ago, and they didn't include this one. I was so pissed off! This album cover deserved to be on that list! God damn that magazine! Does anyone else agree? How about you, StyxFan93? You've gotta think so too.

  74. s.... ....

@MrPhish21 How can anyone NOT like this song? It's just too cool!

  75. c.... ....

I used to listen to this on 8 track when i was a kid and loved it back then when i was 6 years old. Styx music is timeless and i'm glad it lives on in so many movies nowadays so younger generations can appreciate real music than the shit that gets made today. Thanks for posting!

  76. M.... ....

im glad there is no dislikes... tat means either no one who likes rap is on here, or everyone who hears this is an instant lover of this song...

  77. S.... ....

LOL, I beat up the replay button!

  78. S.... ....

This is the 2nd best bass line by Chuck, 1st is Castle Walls!
Chuck Panozzo, 2nd best bassist in history, 1st being John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin)

  79. t.... l....

Can you believe STYX is doing both the Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight live. Did anyone see this concert? If so post how it was because i missed out . Thanks.

  80. V.... M....

@ProgEars2006 you are so right it was Tommy Shaw

  81. V.... M....

@ProgEars2006 ok so who is singing lead on this song

  82. V.... M....

@YounggJewelz you are so right power to the people yeah.

  83. V.... M....

@StyxFan93 oh yeah I can seen this song being sang by a choir. WOW it is fun. Do you if they still sing this song at concerts and who is singing lead

  84. V.... M....

@StyxFan93 oh yeah I can seen this song being sang by a choir. WOW it is fun. Do you if they still sing this song at concerts

  85. p.... ....

Going to see their Grand Illusion & Pieces of Eight tour next month (10/10). I have enjoyed going back over these albums, what a rush! Thanks StyxFan93 for posting!

  86. t.... l....

Styx is one of the greatest vocal bands ever. They just kick ass.

  87. B.... M....

thats the first time i heard it

  88. s.... ....

one of my absolute favorite styx tunes

  89. s.... ....

My brother 8 years my senior played this album over and over. I could always hear it at night as i fell asleep in my room. It makes me feel good to hear it again. I miss those days sometimes

  90. S.... F....

This song is great and needs to be reborn again by a current Tommy Shaw version...good stuff!!

  91. d.... ....

This song makes me sad. It reminds me of my youth. When growing up I did not have a stereo so when I went to college my best friend liked Styx and Rush. So I became a fan and to even know this song you have to be a pretty big fan.

  92. F.... ....

One OF the best albums ever... not the 70s: no I mean EVER. A shame it's only 8 songs but wow: they are genious!

  93. F.... G....

I love this song, great album!

  94. a.... ....

    I'm an old man now,...
But I remember my teenage years. This is the first album I learned how to play drums to. To this day, I do not think I found such a meaningful concept album as this (Grand Illusion) one by Styx...

    a.... ....

Operation: Mindcrime by Queensryche is a meaningful concept album.

  95. E.... ....

I helped my grandma with meager chores, hehe.

And the Grand Illusion tour was in, like '77. I saw them on their last tour with Dennis DeYoung, which was in what? 1996? Something like that. When I saw them, the arena was filled with enough older people to knock over a diner during early bird special, hehe. Pot smoke, not so much, hehe.

  96. E.... ....

They were the first band I ever bought a CD wtih my own money and my first concert back in the 4th grade, hehe.

  97. Y.... P....

Damn Yankees weren't bad? If you didn't know who was in the band, you could easily mistake them for just another late 80s/early 90s glam band. As far as reading up on my STYX history, I grew up listening and following them.

  98. Y.... P....

Well I am more surprised how Tommy Shaw left the band to join Damn Yankees with Ted Nugent. I thought DY pretty much sucked and Tommy Shaw thumbed his nose at STYX. But, how many albums did STYX sell versus DY

  99. V.... ....

and what the hell is Dennis Saying at the end I like it alway have always will!!!

  100. V.... ....

cool song how come todays so called artist's cant think up cool songs like this???? huh huh
