Styx - She Cares Lyrics

I tried to be the perfect soldier
I tried to be what everyone said was expected
Somehow I was selected
Well, my hands were steady, my aim was true
But deep inside of my heart I knew
That I lacked the will
I just couldn't shoot to kill

And still she treats me like a human
She says she'll still be there
I may not be a hero, but I'll be there
Because I know she cares

I worked hard to be the greatest lover
I wanted to be sure that I was her only one
That's how I thought it was done
But I went too far, assumed too much
The need to feel a younger one's touch
Seemed important then
Oh what a fool I've been

And still she treats me like a human (like a human)
She says she'll still be there (that she'll be there)
I don't quite understand it, she's been too fair
'Cause somehow she cares

I guess that's the way it goes, the way that it goes
And nobody knows what compels her
She's seen my highs and lows and never let go

Oh yes she treats me like a human (like a human)
She says she'll still be there (that she'll be there)
I don't quite understand it, she's been too fair
'Cause somehow she cares

I guess that's the way it goes, the way that it goes
And nobody knows what compels her
She's seen my highs and lows and never let go

And when the world has turned its back on me
I won't have to feel alone
'Cause I know she cares

Styx She Cares Comments
  1. N.... M....

This was the closest Styx came to a Springsteen song. If you didn't know it was DDY on piano, you'd SWEAR it was Danny Federici.

If I was Dennis Deyoung I would have threaten to quit the band because of this crap song from Shaw horrific

  13. N.... C....

    SHE CARES!!

  14. K.... ....

When I was 10, this was the song that made Tommy Shaw my first rock star crush.

  15. S.... ....

Styx fans who say Tommy hated ballads clearly haven't heard (or have forgotten) songs like "Sing For A Day", "Lights", "She Cares", "Just Get Through This Night", and "Haven't We Been Here Before".

  16. D.... 6....

My wife and I fell in love to this song

  17. R.... J....

I STILL LOVE this song after 38 years 😘

  18. r.... s....

I had to give up roller skates too after i bought broke my neck three times

  19. b.... ....

One of my very fav Styx songs. I love it.

  20. A.... ....

My favorite album of all-time, probably!

    A.... ....

    Let's see..

    * She cares
    * Nothing ever goes as planned
    * Lonely people

Exactly, how is this Styx best record???? Never understood that. Sure the others songs were great or at least pretty good, but also contained 3 that were not so great by Styx standards.

If you want a great album, try Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight, Cornerstone, Kilroy was here, Equinox or Crystal Ball. This was not their best album by any stretch because it contained not one, but 3 songs that were subpar. Not saying they were terrible. But great, they were not.

  21. G.... W....

She treats me like a human. Wow, TS has pretty high standards, lol.

  22. M.... D....

This is the song i listen to when my gf wont make love to me because i got high with my friends so i jerk off to this song instead

  23. D.... R....

    Good music!

  24. R.... S....

    Good song

  25. L.... C....

    love they sax!!

  26. W.... H....

    My favorite Styx song

  27. U.... M....

    rock out Tommy Shaw

  28. D.... ....

Steve Eisen's Tenor Sax solos at 2:31 was Simply Fabulous! A great example of the Depths and Highs that a Tenor sax can take you!

  29. D.... S....

I was 16 when I first listened to this album and I'm 38 now. The original DeYoung/Shaw/Young/Panozzos version of Styx just keeps getting better with each year. Styx with DeYoung had class, power, and elegance. All they have now is loud amps and music they could never write themselves (played by losers like Gowan and Phillips who could care less about quality) to base their career on. The only good things Shaw-led Styx has going for it are DeYoung's hits and Todd Sucherman's epic drumming.

I saw Dennis DeYoung solo with his band at the end of July this year, and I just about cried hearing how much love Dennis has for the quality of Styx's music. He went back to the albums and dug out a vocal harmony here or a lead guitar line there and enriched the songs in the live format.

    D.... S....

Much of what you say is true.

Shaw has also written a number of great songs, and few duds when he was teamed up with the classic line-up. But this song is definitely one of them. Easily the lamest classic line-up Styx song he wrote for the band. Even still, it has a few redeeming qualities, but by Styx 1970/80s standards, it shouldn't have made the record.

    D.... S....

    David S.
Actually they just released an album in 2017 “The Mission” and it is stellar! A complete nod to all of their early influences, and early Styx. It’s pretty shitty to say that about Ricky Phillips and Lawrence Gowan as they are very talented and really nice guys. I met them both several times and they took the time to talk to me about their musical interests. I also like Dennis; he is definitely a musical genius, but for whatever personal reasons they have to not work together are theirs alone. Maybe we should all just appreciate that all of these talented artists are still out there doing their thing, and we get to enjoy them. Check out the Mission! Peace to you.

  30. g.... w....

    JUST LOVE TOMMY's VOICE

  31. b.... s....

    I love this song

  32. P.... G....

I like the voice of Tommy Shaw (Tenor Saxophone solo: Steve Eisen)

    P.... G....

You and me both. He has such a smooth voice. Perfect example Crystal Ball.

  33. R.... ....

@2003Brad Dude, this REALLY isn't that bad. Mr. Roboto was 10x anti rock

    R.... ....

@RavenGames101 Mr. Roboto reached #3 on the Billboard. And you can find Mr. Roboto in the album "Styx Greatest Hits". Not bad at all for an anti rock song.

    R.... ....

@Raynald B Yeah........................still anti-rock. And even though Styx fans love Roboto, the reason other people hate Styx is bc they think of Mr. Roboto. Trust me, no one really pays attention to this song anyway. Mr. Roboto gets A LOT of attention bc of how it ruined the band's image

    R.... ....

+RavenGames101 This album is the greatest Styx album, having amazing songs like "Snowblind", "She Cares", "Rockin' The Paradise", "Nothing Ever Goes As Planned", "The Best Of Times" so it's not fair comparing it to the likes of "Mr. Roboto". As much as I like Mr roboto I have to admit it gave bad reputation to the band.

  34. R.... ....

This song is beautiful. I have a friend who knows about my depression, has seen HORRIBLE sides of me, barely sees me anymore, and still we text every night and she helps me with whatever problem goes on in my life. This song goes out to her, because she cares

    R.... ....

+RavenGames101 exactly - I'm with you, more with you than you'll know. This song captures it wholehearted.

  35. j.... b....

Always two thumbs up. One greatest band .

  36. W.... B....

Got the same rolling rock Rhythm of Running on Empty

  37. N.... M....

She treats me like a human, so I know she cares..." Way to set the bar high! lol

    N.... M....

I never thought of it like that before....that's pretty funny.

    N.... M....

It is even after he cheats on her with a younger woman. That's the point. She sticks with him after.

  38. L.... S....

I love this song, but it sounds more like a Todd Rundgren/Utopia tune, not that there is anything wrong with that.

  39. D.... ....

Garbage I would have quit the band after Shaw wrote this shit

    D.... ....

It may have depended on how much money you had coming your way at the time Little Tommy boy wrote it eh?  Shaw's a great artist, but Deyoung put these MF's on the map and in the end they shat all over him.  Sad, butt happens I guess...Yeah, I've seen shaw and his band 2 yrs ago, Dennis is coming to my area next January (TX), I may have to start saving for that one. It's probably sold out already however...

    D.... ....

@DealioTV Better than First Time (DeYoung)

    D.... ....

As a Shaw composition, it beats the hell out of his pimp-a-thon anthem "Shooz" on Crystal Ball. Additionally, on that album Dennis DeYoung sings about the wonders of underage sex on "Jennifer." The band had grown up lyrically by the time of Paradise Theater. This album works as a cohesive statement about success, a resulting golden age, the failure of that golden age, and overcoming it despite great pain.

  40. r.... ....

Ironically, just found my Cassette copy of this album ,LOVING IT!!

  41. N.... ....

Okay, now I gotta listen to Snowblind...

    N.... ....

I'd rather be "fucked" blind..... but I like snow blind greatly....

    N.... ....

Nirky I just came from there💗

  42. H.... ....

    Love it!

  43. g.... ....

    one of my favourites-thank you.

  44. J.... D....

oops, that was supposed to be "but it's cool"... not "bit cool"

  45. J.... D....

I respect your point of view, bit cool when young ones can say they love the music I grew up with.

  46. J.... D....

I was somewhere between 9 and 12 when this song was popular. I'm 45 now, I still love it!

  47. T.... ....

I don't mean to be rude, but, there's nothing special about stating your age (or even engaging in the Nostalgic feeling). Really and truly, I'd rather see the top comment as some guy from this era saying something along the lines of, "Man, this brings me back." Or, "This song reminds me of a girl I fancied." Something like that, puts a smile on my face for some odd reason. Just, ya know? The past, man. So, anyways, no debating. Good day.

    T.... ....

So classy: starting shit and then not being able to handle the shit you start. :) "No debating" = coward. :)

    T.... ....

are we allowed to state the year it correlates to our lives?, how about school grades is that ok? or is that just too much to handle?

  48. E.... C....

Firing DeYoung was the best thing this band ever did.

    E.... C....

So Tommy could write songs like this one to compete with Barry Manilow?

Let's face it. If they kicked Dennis out for writing soft rock songs because he wanted to rock, explain the songs like this one? There are many of them. I generally loved both of their work, but even I'd say this song was pretty lame all around. Paradise Theater hits number one, but was far from one of their best albums, though it had some great songs on it, and ones like this.

    E.... C....

    🤦🏼‍♂️

  49. L.... C....

Altough the current formation is awesome.because Tommy and Dennis Y, and company have kept them rolling. This is the dearest and most powerul times, so fresh innovative.emotional tunes!!

  50. L.... ....

STYX. Kept me from going crazy when I was in the Army. 1981. FTW!

  51. r.... ....

Tommy didn't fire Dennis. JY and Chuck did. Got the story from Chuck Panozzo himself. Tommy had nothing to do with it. And to be honest, Dennis was a MAJOR grade A douche. Always has been.

    r.... ....

romeokid69 APRIMMA DONNA 4 SURE BUT YOU CANT DENY HIS SONGWRITING TALENT...MISS STYX WITHOUT HIM....ALL FAMILIES ARE DYSFUNCTNL

    r.... ....

You mean, JY & Tommy picked Chuck to do the dirty work for them. The plan for Chuck was basically to exit the band, and remain a band member for legal reasons. This is more common than you may think. He probably figured since the band could not see eye to eye and they've had their problems before, he choose the safe road.

Check is the only member of Styx that showed any interest in a DDY reunion.

  52. D.... B....

    What a beautiful song!!!

  53. k.... ....

    You would be correct, sir.

  54. M.... B....

Always thought this one got overlooked and it was my favorite off the album!

    M.... B....

Maggie B Agreed! Glad you care. ;-)

  55. M.... ....

When you think about it, this tune almost sounds like it would have been the opening theme song for some 80"s sit-com type show.

  56. P.... ....

I remember loving this album...but have absolutely no recollection of this humdrum, forgettable song. (Unfortunately, the same could be said of many Styx songs over the many albums...)

  57. S.... ....

@jwmellott That's why I ripped it to mp3 as soon as I got it (I just got this on vinyl a few months ago), saves wear on the album.

  58. 2.... ....

Sorry, but of all STYX songs, this is one that I did not care for at all. Now get this, Tommy Shaw did not care to much for Dennis DeYoungs lovie dovie songs but then yet, this one went through. It did not have any real roack overtones to it.
Babe I really loved. It is a ballad and it can be slow-danced to. Written in a beautiful bright major key. Tanks Dennis. I don't remember commenting to this song She Cares.

    2.... ....

    I coudln't agree more.

Was he trying to compete with Babe? Probably not, because he had written many songs on past albums that had me thinking, "where's the rock in this song"? The others were largely good songs. Dunno what happened here. Maybe substances were getting in the way? After all, he needed to recover from what Dennis did to his song on this record, Too much time on my hands. It wasn't supposed to be a New Wave song. But I think the band didn't reject to it the same way they did when he tried the New Wave style again, Mr Roboto. Same difference though. Both excellent songs in my book by the way. And who's Dennis to start experimenting with musical styles & trying to stay relevant? Tommy would never think of doing the same kind of thing, and record a song like "Boat It doesn't ROCK on the river" (like Babe & Mr. Roboto, great song by the way) that was in a totally different style than Styx had played before. How dare any musician in the band experiment "outside the box". Let's fire anyone that would do that.

In my book, if you can't like Babe or Mr Roboto, you can't like "Never say never" or "Too much time on my hands" for the reasons given by the band, and some of the fans that are too busy with the "well, Tommy's cute so I like him". Judge musicians by the musical contributions, not by if you want to wake up in bed next to them the next morning.

    2.... ....

2003Brad Sorry say don’t like love ballet songs, to me every women love this classic hit song. Once hear it got hear again and again. I did my high school days. Now still remember all classic songs use listen on my record player and radio stations. After 38 years or more, it’s part some one love it much more then others. I truly do believe in this song from bottom of my heart. There times and music artists left them write beautiful song. Truly touches my heart Forever.

  59. 2.... ....

  60. b.... ....

Sounds like a great california rock song, like America or something.

  61. I.... M....

I photographed Styx in 77. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  62. D.... ....

i`VE probaly listened to this album more times than anyone on the planet...and it never gets old!!!

  63. x.... ....

@beardbear31 me too. i used to spend hours looking at it haha :)

  64. x.... ....

this song doesn't really fit on this album...at least that's my opinion. seems like it would fit better on a jackson browne album a little more suitably. i used to skip this song all the time as a kid. i think they should have taken the 4:20 of this song and stretched out "state street sadie" instead.

  65. j.... ....

I played this album until the grooves wore thin
    Then i bought another one

  66. C.... ....

    very nice melodic song ...
    thanks you for the upload

this song shines on this album! I loved how side 2 was laser-etched on the album

  68. b.... ....

  69. C.... t....

@kobold144 I'm having trouble lately finding tabs n stuff for great songs because they're so underrated. lol.

  70. C.... t....

my neighbor gave me this record. freaking sweet.

  71. P.... D....

The first time I heard this song I loved it. I'm 14, and I love styx my favorite song is come sail away. I think this is way better than todays music.

  72. s.... ....

questa canzone è meravigliosa, fantastica, stupenda.
    Bye From Sicily

  73. 2.... ....

This is not even rock, and Tommy Shaw thought was Denis DeYoung was crazy for doing Mr.Robboto he should think about his song.

  74. H.... K....

Paradise Theatre is an awesome album. I had it on cassette years ago and only recently found a copy of it on cd.

  75. 1.... ....

This is not a typical Styx song.

  76. C.... C....

    I KNOW RIGHT!!!

  77. e.... ....

Wow! Thanks, bro. So I was searching for this song almost 6 or 7 months. Music of my youth. Thank you heartly!
