Styx - Plexiglas Toilet Lyrics

Don't sit on the Plexiglas toilet
Said the momma to her son
Wipe the butt clean with the paper
Make it nice for everyone
But don't sit down on the Plexiglas toilet yeah

A boy of 5 stands close to the toilet
Holds the lid up with one hand
Won't let go the lid for fear that
On his banana it will land
Don't sit down on the Plexiglas toilet yeah

Boy goes up he eats the enchilada
With the sauce that burns the heart
Family comes to visit family
momma says don't belch and fart

Don't sit on the Plexiglas toilet
Said the momma to her son
Wipe the butt clean with the paper
Make it nice for everyone
But don't sit down on the Plexiglas toilet yeah

Everybody Sing!

Don't sit on the Plexiglas toilet
Said the momma to her son
Wipe the butt clean with the paper
Make it nice for everyone
But don't sit down on the Plexiglas toilet yeah

Don't sit on the Plexiglas toilet
Said the momma to her son
Wipe the butt clean with the paper
Make it nice for everyone
But don't sit down on the Plexiglas toilet yeah

Somebody please make a mashup of Come Sail Away and Plexiglass Toilet! I was singing PT over CSA tonight at karaoke and believe it or not they fit together!

  9. k.... ....

This was one of my mom's all time favorite songs. Serpent Rising came out when I was in college and I brought it home and when this started playing my mom cracked up laughing. We went around singing it for weeks. For one thing she thought it indicated this very, very good band didn't take themselves too seriously. Well, some of them didn't!

  16. T.... ....

    0o o0 00 WOW!!! I've never herd this song before LOL! :D

  17. S.... ....

Weird how I've always (since a kid in the 70s) associated this song with Cheech and Chong.

  18. B.... ....

So much hate for Styx? they're an amazing band! Now they have Larry Gowan, you can't beat that. So many great songs. Of course it was pretentious, it's art. All these songs were written when there was no war and the future seemed eternal. The guys were wildly talented. They ENTERTAINED you! Show some appreciation and less resentment. If you have petty issues with a band like Styx, the problem is you.

  19. 1.... ....

My wife was the world's biggest Styx fan and had all the albums, but for some strange reason had never let the album play through to this song. When I told her about it, she denied it existed and proceeded to dig out the record to prove it to me. After the long pause after "As bad as this" it started playing. Her jaw dropped so far I thought she had dislocated it. I couldn't stop laughing for about 5 minutes. Priceless.

    1.... ....

It's not often you get to tell your wife that she's wrong. 😆

  20. M.... T....

Yes - I can see the logical progression from "Lady", here.

  21. E.... G....

    IRONY ALERT!

STYX COVERED FANFARE FOR THE COMMON MAN..... BEFORE ELP!?!

  22. D.... R....

    Still better than mr roboto

  23. T.... K....

In fact Joe Walsh does same thing on original ending of Lifes Been Good when Bill and all in studio say Wah Wah

  24. T.... K....

Dennis wanted Styx to be the next ELP back then. So John RIP threw this down and Den and JY both hate it to this day. I find it quirky and a unique FU how John C. was not as anal about making music

    T.... K....

I think it's priceless! I mean, they should think about that picture of Einstein sticking his tongue out.

  25. e.... d....

well considering the pretentious crap that the rest of the band aspired to, good job.

    e.... d....

    You're a dumbass.

  26. O.... G....

Wows. I haven't heard this song in 35 years.

  27. D.... M....

JC was flippin the bird at De Young

    D.... M....

Cant blame the dude after Dennins pull a Roger Waters

  28. J.... A....

Pretty bad, listen to some real Calypso music.

    J.... A....

+Jak Ajak you are so wrong you dont need to know how to play a genre in order to parody it in fact the worse you do it the more of an impact and funnier it is there is several songs including movies that prove this Kung pow is just one of them its so bad that its good it is the very same with this song if you dont like it that is your opinion and no one can argue against that but you dont have to spread negative comments telling people not to listen to it. . .

    J.... A....

+Jak Ajak I agree that Naala. You don't need to be proficient in a genre in order to parody it properly. In fact, it can be even better when you CAN'T play the genre well, because it provides an outsider's view of how silly it is.

    J.... A....

+Jak Ajak You do know the whole point of this song was to piss off their edgelord songwriter right?

    J.... A....

lmao how do you not notice that this is a comical song and not serious in any way? *facepalm*

    J.... A....

You do have to be competent to be convincing, listen to Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Spike Jones, Frank Zappa & Mothers Of Invention, etc.all masters of parody & many musical genres.

I didn't tell anyone not to listen to it, just try some real Calypso. Nothing negative about that.

  29. S.... A....

I remember listening to this record over and over again in my high school bedroom with my best friend Chuck in 1973. What a hidden gem in Styx's discography! This album represented a lot of hard times in my life. It still speaks to me after 42 years. I love Witch Wolf on this album. So much drive and good times. Of course this song was the epitome of what Styx had to offer at the time! So cool! Everything Styx released after this kind of paled in comparison, until I think ten years later when Kilroy Was Here came out. That record changed the game! I'm also really partial to Love Is The Ritual! What an awesome song. Love live Styx!

  30. k.... ....

Do you think they were aiming for a novelty hit?

  31. A.... ....

Won't let go of the lid for fear that
On his banana it will land.

I admit, when I first got The wooden nickel recordings CDs and listened to this song, I jumped a bit when I heard the lid slamming

    A.... ....

When i was a kid my dad used to sing this and I never understood it...
    Now i do. ;_;

  32. N.... A....

I absolutely adore this song! I heard it for the first time a few years back while listening to "The Serpent is Rising" on vinyl for the first time ever. I had no idea that this song was on the album, and was equally blown away and dying of laughter when it kicked in at the end of 'As Bad As This.' It was one of the greatest musical experiences I've had in my life.

My favorite part of the song is how it increases in tiers. I love how it starts with just the band performing the chorus and first two verses up until 1:04, and then expands with the background vocals kicking in singing 'Ahhh' until "Everybody sing!" at 1:23. By the time the clapping kicks in at 1:46 it's just rolling on all cylinders. It's actually a really well composed song despite its silliness.

    N.... A....

    Yep...The suprize ending...Hahaaa!

  33. J.... H....

I haven't heard this since it was new. Nature called this morning and I heard it again.

  34. J.... L....

This is the best song I've ever heard STYX do!!!!

    J.... L....

@ElectricFuneralFog And some people don't understand sarcasm

    J.... L....

@Jennifer Lynne Lockrey Yeah your statement was true regardless of whether or not it was sarcastic. It's literally the best Styx song/album ever created.

    J.... L....

If you need to explain that you were being sarcastic, you can't have been doing it very well. ;-)

    J.... L....

+Jennifer Lynne Lockrey One of my all time faves too... I love it when groups that take themselves too seriously at times let loose and have fun. this may have been written as an FU... but at least it was a fun FU

    J.... L....

Take your trolling elsewhere. Tommy Shaw was the best thing that happened to the band. His success with Damn Yankees and solo (along with Styx obviously) proves my point. Dennis Deyoung is the one who changed after Tommy joined. Dennis wanted to run the show.

  35. J.... C....

    where is on the album

    J.... C....

It's a hidden track on the album "The Serpent Is Rising"; it follows right after the song "As Bad As This."

  36. D.... P....

I had a childhood friend who was a HUGE Styx fan...growing up in Northern Indiana within range of WLS-AM in the late '70s/early '80s, it was hard not to be!  When he got "Serpent" (the reissue of "The Serpent Is Rising") and we found this hidden within "As Bad As This" we almost shat ourselves laughing!  I still think this is better than the dreck they turned to after "Cornerstone."  Coolest line: "Mama says don't belch or fart!"

  37. S.... G....

This is a hidden track on The Serpent is Rising. It follows As Bad as This.

  38. F.... ....

Nothing like a little Styx, Calypso Style!!
"wipe the butt clean with the paper" WTF? How this ever made the album, I will never know. But I am glad it did! ; )

    F.... ....

FishHeadSalad cus wooden nickel was like a sad sad company and they were like eh if it gets money

  39. n.... ....

That's because it wasn't transferred to that one. The album was originally titled 'Serpent' before they got a real label. Then when they got a real label the album title was changed and the song was removed.

  40. P.... ....

better than the crap DeYoung come up with

  41. D.... ....

Theres a video on Youtube somewhere of Tommy Shaw, Chuck Panozzo and Lawrence Gowan singing this song in a kitchen. :-)

  42. P.... T....

Sux they don't still do this. Also would have made for great comic relief during the Kilroy Was Here tour!

  43. n.... ....

    its legit...

  44. T.... ....

I hadn't heard this for 30 years, but I've thought of it every once in a while. I thought of it now because I saw a bathroom on HGTV with a Plexiglas toilet seat embedded with fishing hooks and lures. Yikes.

I'm so happy to find it here and discover that it's even better and more fun than I remembered!

  45. m.... ....

love it...JC was awesome...he played with my husband in TC Walker Band...

  46. r.... ....

ok, once again, to clear up any confusion, here is the story STRAIGHT from Chuck Panozzo (in other words, all arguments as to who wrote and performed it will end HERE). The song was written by John Curulewski & John Panozzo as a big FU to Dennis whom John P. always hated. There are THREE Styx members performing on the song. John C., John P., and Chuck. PERIOD!!!! END OF STORY!!!! Dennis fought tooth and nail to not include the song which is why it's a hidden track. Again, STRAIGHT from Chuck.

  47. C.... ....

    As Bad as This, 3:45

  48. P.... D....

I have the record. We use to laugh at it when I was in high school.
it is tagged onto the end of one of the songs.

  49. i.... ....

My dad got a radio station copy of the album, that's where he first got this song

  50. r.... ....

Nobody HERE was whining about it, but the guys in the band at the time were looking for something to break the monotony. And while I agree that Styx without Dennis isn't the same, you can say that about ANY band who lose their original singers. Dont single Styx out.

  51. r.... ....

The description the poster of this video gives is directly from me and I got it directly from CHUCK PANOZZO HIMSELF!!!!! Dennis DeYoung is nowhere on this song, nor is JY. And no one said JC wasn't edgy, but Dennis' stuff was more out there as far as being way too proggy. The only real edgy rocker in the band at the time was JY. Chuck and John P were pretty much just following along as Dennis instructed because as soon as they formed, Dennis made himself the dictator pretty much right away.

    r.... ....

    Even before Cornerstone

  52. s.... ....

Sure sounds like Dennis joining in on the chorus at around 1:05. Not sure I buy the story about this being a dig at Dennis. JC was doing some pretty edgy stuff back then too -- "As Bad as This" and especially "Krakatoa" off this album.

  53. M.... N....

All I can say is: I bought this album new when it was released and surprised as shit to hear this song after rockin' out to the rest. Laughed my ass off and fell in love.

  54. M.... ....

Personally, I like the "artsy fartsy" progressive rock sound that Dennis brought to Styx. What I don't like is the "mamsy, pansy" sound that Dennis brought when he wrote "Babe" and "First Time".

    M.... ....

Even Babe, First Time and Don't Let It End, et al, can be artsy fartsy

  55. W.... ....

    Weird Wild Stuff !!!

  56. K.... A....

    @Funsho97 I'm so, so sorry...

  57. B.... B....

@JorealConners It is not listed. It is at the end of side 2. You have to wait for it. I grew up with this, and knew them in person.

  58. T.... ....

If you remember Dr. Demento, he used to play this on his radio program. I knew of this song because I bought all five Styx albums which existed at the time I first heard "Lady."

  59. r.... ....

@maxpin63 Actually, both Johns wrote it. I spoke with Chuck Panozzo, at length about this song. The only 3 members on the recording are the 2 Johns and Chuck. It was a big F-U to Dennis who hates the song. Dennis was more artsy-fartsy at the time.

  60. r.... ....

I have the skinny on this story straight from Chuck Panozzo. It was written by John P AND John C. The only members from Styx on the song are the 2 Johns and Chuck. Dennis and JY wanted nothing to do with the song. They dont appear on it anywhere. Chuck said it was a big FUCK YOU to Dennis who, at the time was writing artsy-fartsy, Emerson, Lake & Palmer crap.

  61. s.... ....

    @maytag28 this song exists

  62. E.... P....

@JorealConners it was called the Easter Egg song, and was recalled from the serpent is rising LP and when it was re-released it wasent on there....

  63. J.... ....

@Dyynamo Damn... right there at the 3:45 mark. I must've just tuned out by then. In my defense, I'm usually reading when I listen to music nowadays, but still. How'd I miss this?

  64. D.... ....

@JorealConners Have you found it yet? Try listening to As Bad As This all the way through. Check out the credits on the album sleeve to "all our friends in the Plexiglass Toilet choir", just beneath Arnold Goodman as well. :-)

  65. J.... ....

I am holding my copy of "The Serpent is Rising" by Styx in my hand, and nowhere can I see this as a song. Witch Wolf, The Grove of Eglantine, Young Man, As Bad as This, Winner Take All, 22 Years... nothing on a plexiglass toilet anywhere. I'm gonna listen to this in it's entirety and report back later.

  66. R.... L....

I remember hearing this back in my teens in the 70s but no other Styx fan I know ever remembers it! I have been told by quite a few people I must have been mistaken. I am VINDICATED!! Thanx YouTube for qualifying a 30+ year old memory!

  67. N.... ....

    The best Styx song

  68. s.... ....

Very funny song by Styx. A gem!

  69. j.... b....

i never knew the albulm exsited until know

  70. c.... ....

I actually had this album back in the 70s. Not many people did! Now it is on the Complete Wooden Nickel Recordings in all its poorly-recorded glory. I love the song and I love the whole album, even if Dennis DeYoung doesn't.

  71. M.... ....

harry belafonte should have done this one very similar to banana boat song

  72. T.... ....

@HallPassExpired It was on the original Serpent is Rising LP on the Wooden Nickel label, but it is not listed in the song list. It is tagged onto the end of "As Bad as This." It is also on The Complete Wooden Nickel Recordings double disc CD release which contains their first four albums plus a bonus track ("Unfinished Song") that wasn't on any of the albums.

  73. J.... D....

    i luv this song

  74. g.... C....

i would nt have believed it if I didnt google it. Man, this was something I bet they are really trying to forget! lol....

  75. J.... D....

WoW!!!!! I think this was only on the picture disk(first release) here in the states! Ive been looking for it for years! Thanks for posting this!!! This was my first concert(with April Wine)!!!! I bet it isnt on the Cd!! (which would be sad)

  76. M.... ....

Before Styx had hit records, Dr.Demento introduced this deep number into the public consciousness, since radio play eluded them until "Lady" broke the ice a year after this song was laid on wax. Haven't heard this for awhile, yet it holds up fine (as does Styx's more recent Billy Bob Thornton-vocalized "Bourgeois Pig"). However, I've wondered whether the Styx-men now feel embarrassed by it or are able to chuckle at their own youthful audacity. Hopefully the latter.

  77. D.... ....

The song isn't listed on the album. The only reference to it is a thank you to the Plexiglass Toilet Choir in the sleeve notes. I don't have the CD, but the song follows on from "As Bad As This" at the end of side 1 on the vinyl LP.

  78. 1.... ....

My kids all love this song! "Wipe the butt, clean with the paper...makes it nice for everyone!" This is definitely the sillier side of STYX

  79. s.... h....

@maytag28 thats wierd, my library actually had a plexiglass toilet. I would shit forever and listen to this. And there was a Mariachi band there. And a guy who sold tacos.

  80. S.... M....

    @LordsOfStonecroft

    fuck.
    you.
    styx.
    hater.

    S.... M....

not only Styx haters but also artsy fartsy Dennis

  81. L.... ....

    @fraroc
    It's alright.
    I hate you too.
    So it's even.

  82. S.... M....

    I.
    Hate.
    You.

  83. z.... ....

genius!!! you have to listen to the whole song....actually the whole album.

  84. L.... ....

    I.
    Hate.
    Styx.

  85. B.... B....

This is great, I havn't heard this one in years. thanks.

  86. R.... ....

    OMG!! hahahahaha

  87. T.... S....

I have come across this track from a list, from another site, thanks for reading, goodbye.

  88. s.... ....

Perfect for celebrating World Toilet Day!

    (which is today)

  89. A.... ....

I first heard this on Dr. Demento around 1982.
    Good times!

  90. G.... ....

A boy of 5 stands close to the toilet
Holds the lid up with one hand
Won't let go the lid for fear that
On his banana it will land.

    Amazing.

  91. m.... ....

    john panozzo wrote it(drummer).

  92. S.... ....

the singer is john curulewski. TShaw replaced him

  93. d.... ....

whoa, this is so bad, sorry.
I wouldn't believe this is from Styx!

  94. E.... K....

I cannot believe this is really on YouTube!!!!LOL!!!
I have a scratchy vinyl version of this and still think it´s a classic!!! Highly underrated!!!!:-)))))))))))
But the effect is better when heard unexpectedly after those slightly different other songs....

  95. p.... ....

In Russia toilet sits on you!

  96. S.... M....

    BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ...cant breathe!...cant....stop...laughing!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

And that was my reaction to this song.

  97. S.... ....

    A great song!

  98. l.... ....

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that "all too familiar THX sound" was in fact created by an employee at Lucasfilm. In fact, it's trademarked to them. Doing a quick google search of it would have told you that in about 10 seconds. Perhaps the creator was influenced by by this album, but nowhere is it credited to Styx. It is listed as a "similar predecessor" on wikipedia, along with a few others.
