Styx - Light Up Lyrics

Light up everybody
Join us in this celebration
Light up and be happy
Sweet, sweet sounds will fill the air

Every day's a holiday when your lips meet mine
The music's keepin' time with our love
You are here, and so am I
The weather's quite divine
So pass me round your wine, lovely one

All I need is just one hit to get me by
'Cause baby when your near I'm halfway high

Light up, everybody
Join us in this celebration
Light up and be happy
Sweet, sweet sounds will fill the air

  19. B.... B....

I remember hearing this song every morning as a sophomore in high school on our school's radio station in 1976, and how appropriate and it was since everyone was getting high before classes back then. It's still one of my favourite songs by STYX and it brings back wonderful memories of that time 43 years later as, I still light up!♥️😁

  20. F.... B....

Gov finally relenting to Styx advice!

You know I thank styx for helping me get through some of the hardest days at work in the 60s 70s 80s 90s I don't think I would of quit a long time ago froggy

  26. E.... C....

Unfortunately, Youtube has hit a new low. I came here to listen to a wonderful song from Styx about "lighting up" and "sweet, sweet music filling the air". Unfortunately, I was forced to listen to a Trump propaganda video full of lies and deceit. We don't need to mix music with nasty politics!

  27. E.... C....

If Dennis would have kept smoking "The ganja" (instead of going square and taking his family on the road with him) who knows how many more great Styx songs we would be listening to today. Dennis might even be in the band today.

  28. g.... m....

They should start every 4:20 Celebration with this song! Vancouver B.C.

  29. A.... P....

When I was a stoner back in the 70's (I still am) everything was groovy. These kids today are fucked up. The biggest hang up when we were kids in high school was denying that were jerked off so that the girls wouldn't think we were weird ... lol

  30. G.... ....

By the way I am not ON DRUGS!!!! I LIKE THE SONG BECAUSE OF THE RHYTHM AND BEAT THATS ALL PROMISE!!!!

The lead singer has won the wami 4 times in a row, they also play as a band called rhythm method 80's music. Both excellent but you swear you are listening to Dennis De Young. The band is super tight as well Bassist is excellent.

Wow, I can't believe I'm the 1st (or one of the first, I'm NOT gonna read 256 comments to check, sorry!) to bring some 'subliminal' hidden message buried in this song to light for many of you. Anyways, it takes a GOOD set of over the ear headphones to hear it clear enough to identify it ('ear buds' likely won't cut it, the magnets are too small, forced by their tiny size) and for those of you who can't quite discern it, its the following:

starting at exactly 3:42 in this song/video, starting in the right speaker (you DID put 'L' on left ear & 'R' on your right, yes? Kidding!) and then in stereo 'on the beat' from that point thru the end of the song, you'll hear a little voice in your ear(s) whispering: "Spark it! Spark it up! Spark it! Spark it up!" Its AWESOME!!!! And, it made it SO EASY for the paranoid, afraid of everything that gave pleasure Religious Right to vilify Styx (not to mention the geographical location of the bands namesake) and yell and scream that here was the 'Proof!'

"Listen Brethren, and behold-uh!! The Spawn of Satan resides so very comfortabuhl-ah within this Godforsaken Devil mu-ooosic, that the Demons themselves-uh fear not even uh retribution-ah and boldly and openly put in these hainous-uh hidden magical spells-uh that beckon & coerce your innocent & God fearing Sons & Daughterzzz-uh!! Wearith thy shield of the Lord my children!! Let us sing! 'Bringing in the sheets, bringing in the sheets, we will find rejoicing, bringing in the sheets!!'"

That, " so, it's your friends birthday" ad is driving me nuts.

  82. H.... ....

Brad, I am here. It looks like no one has posted Styx's Equinox in one video.

    H.... ....

I read your posts, Brad. Just now read this one above, 7 hours ago. Not much to add. Have not seen JCM.

I don't know anything about modern music, if that's what you want to call it. Oh, you mentioned Elton John. Ooh-yuk! When I was in college in the '90s he had a concert with Billy Joel, who I'd seen, didn't care much for. A guy who worked at the Mac Lab said he saw them, it was great. So many years later they played at Tampa after I had moved to Central Florida. Saw that Joel skipped some stuff, but went to see how John did. How horrible!

I'd heard once he said he does not just play his super-old stuff. But he did tonight. The latest song he sang was Philadelphia Freedom, from 1975. NONE of his after-that '70s hits, NONE of the 80s hits, NONE of the 90s hits, nothing. Just that early stuff, some of which is crap. And Joel skipped the same stuff he skipped before. I was actually late, heard so far it was just Joel. Never did do "Just the way you are". That does have extensive sax which he did not have, but even so, it could have been played. He got off the stage and then John came. Both at pianos, John did a whole slew of early stuff, only some of which is good IMO. Did a super-long, extended play of his sucky Levon song. By then I had gone out to the area that surrounds it, my back was breaking. Then he sang another sucky song from then, a super-long version of Tiny Dancer, another horrid piece.

After his suckfest, Joel came back on, did more stuff, same crap as last time. Then John came in, they did stuff together. Now they wouldn't have to be lovers or anything, but as they were both there, they could have done Don't go Breaking my Heart, wouldn't have killed them. John did not do that, or Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word, Mama Can't Buy you Love, Little Jeannie, Empty Garden, Blue Eyes, I Guess that's why they call it the Blues, Sad Songs Say So Much, Nikita, That's what Friends are For, I don't wanna go on with you like that, NOTHING! Not a solitary song from all that, nothing at all. Just very old crap like Your Song and Rocket Man and Island Girl and Daniel. Those are okay songs, but he needed to do other stuff, too. And his original Candle in the Wind. And lots and lots of Levon and complete crap like that.

Well, I'll play what I WANT to play! Such arrogance! They closed with the very egotistical song Piano Man, which Joel did last time. I walked out at that point. Humongous disappointment. How can you be one like Elton John with that huge span, and you only do this teeny little area of music and that's it? I call him Elton Faggy John, not because he's homosexual but because he's just a little faggot. So arrogant! Playing crappy concerts. I can't vouch for what he's done in the past, just that he only played this little sliver.

Saw Heart once. They played ALL their old stuff, Magic Man being my favorite. They skipped '80s stuff and '90s, though did sing 2 #1's, These Dreams and Alone. But nothing else from there. I have always felt Alone would be a great concert hit. Saw them again at Universal Mardi Gras some time later. This time they did the same ol' 70s stuff, skipped '80s AGAIN, though they did those two and did What About Love, the song they got the biggest clap for. What I don't get. When McJerkney did manage to sing a couple of good ones, the audience went wild as in, this is what we want! So why don't they give performances with songs the people really want to hear, why not make it a good show so people stand and applaud? Why do a bunch of crap that nobody wants to hear? I'd say pure ego. Because you CAN!

Saw Meatloaf for some reason. Now the good part of that was, he came back for an "encore". For his encore, he covered other people's stuff. He knew what all were waiting for, and did I think 3 songs of other people. And as all were waiting, he suddenly smirked, said good night, and walked off the stage. People started booing and his concert ended with a flood of boos. I joined in, the entire audience just booed, the lights came on, and everybody left. He left off performing "Two out of three Ain't Bad," the only Meatloaf song that's really worth anything. Earlier he called someone an asshole as he spoke between songs. I am certain everybody considered him one at the end.

Saw Huey Lewie and the Newey, what I like to call them. Once a guy in the audience started yelling what songs he wanted to hear. The only one I could make out at the end was Hip to be Square. They didn't do that one, for some reason. Saw Jackson Browne and Bryan Adams and did NOT enjoy either concert. Why? It was unplugged, but not advertised as so. Just listed as concerts. No band, nothing, just each one sat out on the stage with an acoustic guitar, sangs songs, spoke in-between. Adams did have one other musician with him during some stuff, though I don't remember what he played. Saw Rick Springfield. He came out into the audience, walking on the arms of different seats. He saw me, being about the only male in an audience of females. He came right to my chair, played, looked down at me smiling. He seemed to like me, I smiled back, cheered. Really cool! Never have had one do that. The closest I've been to a rock star.

If Fleetwood Mac had Christine McVie that time, I would have loved it better. Though I did think Lindsey Buckingham was talented. He did Big Love all by himself, minus the grunts.

    H.... ....

I'll look up Crystal Ball but I messed up. I said I have always felt that Heart's song Alone would be a good concert hit. I meant their hit Never, which I have... never heard. Who will you run to would be great too, skipped.

    H.... ....

Robert is my given name, Bobby my nickname. Whichever you prefer.

Geddy Lee was Rush's only vocalist. Styx, on the other hand, had at least two (if not three) lead vocalists per album.

    great song.

  95. M.... G....

Styx is my favorite band of all time, now looking back on it I realize their music was all positive. Especially songs like "Fooling Yourself" and "Blue Collar Man". All the things you go through as a teenager and you think they're the end of the world can make one do things you regret. I am so grateful I listened to songs by Styx that said to me in essence, "Stop feeling sorry for yourself, get up off your ass, get to work, and make it happen" and it did. Kudos Styx for making positive music.

    M.... G....

They were my first favorite and my first rock concert. I then found RUSH and they have stayed my all time favorite.
