Styx - High Time Lyrics

I flip the switch on my laser video
And there's the man staring back at me
He starts to speak in a voice so righteous
About the sins of society

He's got answers to all my problems
Says he'll decide what I should hear and see
I try to change to another station
But all I get is more of his morality
And morality, yeah

But I see the kids of a new generation
And they won't stand for this mind control
They're gonna change this world we live in
They're gonna bring back the rock and roll

So if I can, I'm gonna break from this prison
Gonna get out and join in the fight
Take a chance on what I believe in
Win or lose, I know it's right

'Cause it's high time
For us to start a revolution
High time
Just like an A-bomb explosion
High time
It ain't the music that's in question
High time
It's more the freedom of expression

Change is comin'
Mind Police are comin'
We're on the move
The Old World is crumblin'
A new day's comin'
Tell your friends and relations
We're on the move
We're gonna start a rockin' nation

High time
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
High time
We're gonna start a revolution
High time
[scatting]Everybody lay back now I tell you why...
[Roboto]
"I've been instructed to inform you that your privileges have been penalized.
Your avoidance tactics have proven disappointing."
[Kilroy]
"Ha ha ha ha ha ha
Up yours, Roboto!"
[Roboto]
"No deviance, Kilroy!"

High time
For us to start a revolution
High time
Just like an A-bomb explosion
High time
It ain't the music that's in question
High time
It's more the freedom of expression

Change is comin'
Mind Police are comin'
We're on the move
The Old World is crumblin'
A new day's comin'
Tell your friends and relations
We're on the move
We're gonna start a rockin' nation

B-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-band on the move, yeah
High time
Yeah
High time
B-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-band on the move
High time

"What will this thing cost, man? Look at the costs!"
"Hundreds and hundreds!"

Styx High Time Comments
  1. Baccar Wozat

This song hasn't been played on the radio since 1984.

  2. Richard Hommel

When was the last time you hit the switch on your laser video.

    Frank Dahlquist

When I got tied of his morality.

  3. Lioninthenight

Did this for a talent show lip sync band in 8th grade. First place.

  4. S Satterfield

    Nice horns at the end

  5. Luis Carlos Davila

POP Album # 3 In Billboard 1983. All Said ....

  6. Samuel Pile

The whole premise of the album was pure cheese. Very worst of the 80s

  7. Samuel Pile

Super cheesy. I listened to it a hundred times and wore it out on vinyl. The guitar solo is the only good part.

  8. scorpiomaj27

First CD I ever purchased..... still good today - futuristic.

  9. zudemaster

In my opinion this is the worse song on the Kilroy Was Here album. Just too cheesy. The lyrics are ok, its just that beat with that background chant drives me mad.

  10. briansky10

My favorite Styx song. So catchy!

  11. Daniel Burns

this song only went to #48 on the pop charts in 1983!!!

    mws755

    I can see why lol

  12. mario Atkinson Hinojosa

high time wow 80's this Band has it's bad and good and this was bad any one has an A-bomb

  13. mella mell

Doesn't the beat to this song belong to Tom Petty's Breakdown?

    David S.

This song is supposed to hearken back to things like "California Girls" by The Beach Boys moreso than Tom Petty. The Kilroy album was about celebrating rock music of the 50s and 60s in the face of those who would kill it.

    David S.

The vocals in the chorus sound like a Beach Boys or Mamas And Papas song to me, and they are meant to.

As much as I like Tom Petty (his work in the Travellin' Wilburys especially), he did little but rip off Dylan and other things in his music most of the time.

    mella mell

Yeah - goofy song. lol - - - I never really got into Kilroy Was Here. But J.Y. has a good solo here.

Yep  its HIGH TIME we stood for this country we call America our home.  All we have to do is stand together and FORCE the change - Give congress 3 days to start Impeachment or we release all of there addresses and car make model and tag number on to the internet and make it viral - bet that would get them moving - Love you America dont be afraid to stand - you wont be alone

    cheezitz

he is not fascist. fascism evolves from socialism. trump is trying to irradicate the beginings of socialism.

    dik3di

cheezitz agreed. The problem is so many don’t know what fascism and socialism really is in this country. So many think socialism is good but have no clue socialist governments result in massive crime, mass poverty and government officials allowed to murder for no justified cause. Just look at Venezuela. No one trying to escape the US to go there or any other socialist country. But plenty in socialist countries trying to come here to escape it. Anyone who truly thinks Trump is a fascist or a Nazi needs to get a clue as they are completely ignorant.

    cheezitz

i just cannot believe how many of my high school upperclassmen binge CNN for an hour and think that they know the ins and outs of politics. it is hilarious! and then... all i do is endow upon them a little sense.

    rob062388

@cheezitz holy shit. You're in high school? You know jack shit. No wonder you like Trump. You're a young idiot.

  15. ketchup143

the ending to heavy metal poisoning was awesome.

  16. Luis Carlos Dávila

Change is coming we are on the mood!! High Times.

  17. RS - Maxist Marker

Sorry, some sort of YouTube error.

Kilroy says "A man with a voice most righteous, talking about the sins of society." That could be Dr. Righteous. And, Dennis DeYoung makes an appearance in the HMP music video, as Kilroy protesting Dr. Righteous' show. If you think about it, he mentions that he will keep Rock and Roll alive in Don't Let it End (Reprise).

  18. RS - Maxist Marker

Now that I think about it, this song and Heavy Metal Poisoning are related in more than a couple of ways.

    In here, Kilroy says "

  19. Travis Cole

Hey just a question I have been looking for a song for years dont know much bout it just a couple of lyrics. A freind told me it was Styx I have still yet to find it. Some of the lyrics are "When I was just a boy I hadn't a care. then on to since then I haven't looked back its almost like living a dream and ooooooh I want you... Dont know if thats enough for an answer but if ya know anything it would be appreciatted

    Richard Wolfe

The Climax Blues Band - I Love You

    Deborah Kerns

I don't know who told you that was Styx, but it's a Climax Blues Band song,
    "I Love You".

  20. Azurada23rd

"I've been instructed to inform you that your privileges have been penalized.
Your avoidance tactics have proven disappointing."

    "Hahahahaha... Up yours, Roboto!"

    "No deviance, Kilroy..."

  21. Supertron5000

@ClassicTVMan1981X Yup; On the LP. But for years i've wondered if he had recorded it earlier for one of the previous two albums. All the other songs on "Kilroy Was Here" seem to mesh up pretty well; They all kinda carry the central theme. Cold War kinda does, but just not like the other tracks.. But thanks anyway!

  22. ClassicTVMan1981X

    @Supertron5000
It obviously is included on the LP although I do not know if he had previously recorded it for inclusion on either "Cornerstone" or "Paradise Theater."

  23. Supertron5000

@ClassicTVMan1981X Was "Cold War" even recorded for this album? It just sounds kinda like it's out of place or something. I just figured maybe it was something he recorded and they later decided to include it...

  24. ClassicTVMan1981X

    @doctorvibe1
Tommy Shaw really wanted to get the live version of "Cold War" released as a single instead.

  25. Supertron5000

This is another awesome song from the album. They're all awesome.

Always stand-up for what you believe in. Never take the popular stance.

  26. RS - Maxist Marker

Sounds like a church guy in the first verse.

  27. www41WorldUSAcom

    STYX---''HIGH TIME''

  28. ClassicTVMan1981X

This song was chosen as the 3rd and final single off of the "Kilroy" album, because Tommy Shaw did not want his "Haven't We Been Here Before" ballad released (even though there was a promo video for that song). And even so, "High Time" only managed to make #48 in the Hot 100 in the fall of 1983.

  29. mercblue22

Classic song by a hometown, legendary band! Thanks Styx for the great music. :)

  30. KingTekins
