Styx - Difference In The World Lyrics

Change, Change, Start a new life
Get a job and a beautiful wife
Start living like the rest of the world.
With money and a girl.

Dream, dream, there in my bed
I had it all laid out in my head
I would get it or I’d wind up dead
That’s what I said

Don’t you know it’s hard
To keep your spirits up
It’s hard
To keep from giving up
it’s hard
To Make a difference
in the world today..

Wait, Wait, I take it all back
Sometimes you just
need to reel in the slack
You’ve got the moves, You’ve got the knack
It’s that whip you need to crack

So move on out to the top of heap
Don't over think it now
Just take the leap
Are you the wolf or are you the sheep
Are you still asleep..

Even though it’s hard
Gotta keep your spirits up
It’s hard
Gotta keep from giving up
it’s hard
Gotta Make a difference
in the world today..
That’s the difference
in the world today...Yeah

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah (a difference in the world)
I’m gonna make it, Yeah I’m gonna make it.
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah (a difference in the world)
I got to make a difference in the world today.

Oh Yeah
Don’t you know it’s hard
To keep your spirits up
It’s hard...Yeah
Gotta keep from giving up
it’s hard
To Make a difference
in the world today..(to make a difference in the world)
Gotta make a difference in the world (make a difference in the world)

Change, Change, Start a new life
Get a job and a beautiful wife
Start living like the rest of the world.
With money and a girl.

Styx Difference In The World Comments

    Good one!!!!

  2. S.... M....

I understand that a lot are Dennis DeYoung fans and that's cool! But the fact remains is that Styx is thriving without him. Also, DDY doesn't tour as much because of light sensitivity to the lighting in the stage shows and that's another reason he was asked to leave. It sucks about the circumstances, but they still are one of the best bands in the world!

    S.... M....

Dennis DeYoung didn't like to tour from day 1 ! He couldn't be away from his wife! Technically he doesnt do tours now! He performs a few times a month!!!!

If you don't like this, don't listen to it. Go back to the syrupy ballads Dennis always does. And talk about doing the same thing over again, it's something Dennis is good for. How many ways can "Babe" be done over again? Because that's all Dennis knows anymore.

    D.... K....

as opposed to Tommy's big rockers 'She Care's' and 'Just get through this night', 2 of the lamest STYX songs ever. BTW have you heard Denis' last album 100 years from now? Has quite a few rockers on that.

    D.... K....

kurtmorr ~ Yes, I've heard Dennis's last CD. The only track that could be considered a real rock song was "Private Jones". A lot of it was more sugary ballads. And the rest was nothing but broadway type music and maybe even a few Christian revival songs. Probably the worst he's done thus far. He hasn't done anything really edgy since the Pieces Of Eight Lp.
As for the two tracks you mentioned, with Kilroy, Tommy himself said he was totally uninspired to write for that album, so it's understandable why his songs were not great in it. The song "She Cares" maybe a little lame for Tommy, but at that point, Styx had already begun to fracture. Except for "Snowblind" "Too Much Time..." & Half Penny Two Penny", that album was not that great to me. And yes, I realize it went to #1 for a couple of weeks. As a whole, Pieces Of Eight, was a better Lp.
And talk about worst Styx tracks ever, I would say that goes to Dennis's songs from "Brave New World". They were atrocious at best.

TommyShawBabe, I agree. What these people on here don't understand is that if Dennis had been left in, Styx would no longer exist. Dennis hates to tour. He was an ass. If you don't like them that's fine, but a lot of us still do.

    D.... K....

No, I just proved my point. That he rarely tours. Those dates you mentioned run into November. He won't do anything after that. He's only done 15 dates so far this year. 15 days in 6-1/2 months. Again, proving my point.

    D.... K....

The most he's toured was in 2008, which was 44 days. That's nothing.

    D.... K....

You proved NOTHING because your "statistics" are WRONG. But hey, keep on digging that hole of obtuseness all you like . . . you're not helping your case. (It's quite entertaining though)

    D.... K....

No my statistics come right from a website. So sorry, your wrong here. I added up all the days he's toured since '99, it came up to 480 days. THAT'S ALL!

    D.... K....

I think the problem is that while Dennis didn't like touring so much or perhaps more relaxed touring, Tommy Shaw and the others were completely obsessed with it, doing a show just about every night and once they finished a tour, they immediately started another one. That's pretty demanding for anyone, and understandably why Dennis couldn't do it. I wonder if they tried compromising and doing a tour where they performed 2 or 3 nights per week and give them a few days rest, or tour heavily for 2 to 3 months, take a month or so off and picking up where they left off and do that routine. That would seem reasonable.

  5. R.... H....

Good Lord this is shitty.....please get DDY back...

    R.... H....

I thought so at first but give it 3 or four chances and see if it grows on you like it did for me. I really like it now.

  6. J.... ....

At least it's better than Can't Stop Rockin'.

  7. G.... ....

Chuck tours with them occasionally, but because of his HIV, he isn't as active.

  8. B.... F....

ddy wanted more theatrical approach Styx is rock not Theatrical! have u read Grand Illusion??

  9. B.... F....

Chuck is still in the band!

  10. M.... T....

Gotta say, this is really lousy. Compare this from the most recent material from Dennis and well, you can see pretty quick who was the talent in the band.

  11. r.... k....

i never really listened to Styx-but my girl-friend is a fan. then i heard this song-Differnce in the world. & i Really like it.

  12. m.... ....

I have been really hard on STYX lately because they keep re-hashing old material. It is GREAT to hear a new song now! TOMMY, PLEASE DO ANOTHER SOLO ROCK ALBUM.. This doesn't sound like STYX, it sounds like YOU!! Hurray for that !!!!! Any of your solo material is appreciated!!

    m.... ....

Wish he would or him and Jack Blades do another one

  13. S.... ....

Like if Styx (old or new) made a difference in your world...

  14. G.... ....

I'm not going to lie, the band sure is different without the Panozzos and DeYoung, however I still love their new(er) music. I wish I was alive back when they were on top with Paradise Theater and The Grand Illusion, and although DeYoung's musical 'views' differed from Shaw's and Young's, they still made great music that told a great story. Paradise Theater will always remain my favorite album of all time, but I also love the new Styx and Gowan's new lead on the band.

  15. J.... W....

Man....this is good- I like Styx- always have and have seen them 2 times in the past year and will again on the new tour.

  16. h.... c....

I'm a long time STYX fan (since 1976) and I like it. To hell with those that don't like it. Listen to something else. Looking forward to 30+ more years !

  17. J.... V....

    @DarwinNebraska

They kicked him out because he was becoming a controle freak. The new guy. is just as good.

  18. D.... ....

This band needs Dennis back... sounds nothing like Styx. Dennis' newest CD sounds more like Styx than this fraud of a band.

  19. A.... K....

You know what! If you cant appreciate them then don't watch the videos and don't listen to them. It's really irritating to the people that actually like them to have to see this crap that you are writing. Styx has always been and always will be a great band.

  20. s.... ....

@wakaw07 Sorry about the block, I thought I changed that. In addition, I haven't been well lately. That's the reason for the delay my in response. I am a sorry friend, but I just can't get into this song. It is depressing to me. I find the tempo too slow and the lyrics sad. When I fix the block I will send you another invite. I hope you accept it.

  21. s.... ....

Has Tommy forgotten how to write? This song is two parking lots full of whale vomit!

  22. C.... U....

ooh love this song...brand new...written by Tommy Shaw....

  23. s.... ....

Awful, yes I have seen them with Gowan, he sucks. For God sakes bring back Dennis. I saw him this summer, he still rocks!

  24. C.... ....

Great new track, would like to see more from them.

  25. D.... T....

@Tommyshawbabe Yeah listen to DDY's new album and tell me that is lighter then this. No. Dennis makes good music. Good music. Bring him back already, Styx. Please?

  26. M.... ....

    i like this song
i seen styx twice last year

  27. C.... ....

@atlantadolfan Actually, if you listen, It's a really powerful song. And that was a minor reason, I think, for firing DDY. I think the main reason was because he was just a jerk and was hard to cooperate with him.

  28. K.... D....

I love song :D lol Hope the put it on the tours coming up!

  29. V.... ....

Wow, yet another tired, tepid, drawn out, lackluster stink bomb of an effort. C'mon guys, I thought you ousted DDY because you wanted to "Rock"........well? Was it worth alienating millions in your fanbase to put out this kind of soggy tripe? At least I can listen to"Just Be" for a quick pick me up zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

  30. V.... ....

Wow, another tepid drawn out lackluster stick bomb of a song. I thought they ousted DDY because they wanted to "rock"....well?

  31. b.... ....

HOPEFULLY this means that Styx is working on a new album. Cyclorama was a great record and the fact that they followed it with a covers album was a drag to me...

  32. A.... K....

this is a great song, im so glad to hear new music from them
