Styx - Best Thing Lyrics
Your loving seemed to be the best thing
That I ever had
Your loving seemed to be the best thing
That I ever had
That I ever had
Your loving seemed to be the best thing
That I ever had
Silk and satin make me wonder
Just who I am
To be with you in times of slumber
Makin' me a man
I haven't known you for a very long time
A trip to the skies we begin to fly
Oo-oooh
All the riches I have taken
From you every night
Pay you back someday with interest
'Cause your loving makes it right
Yeah
Your loving seemed to be the best thing
That I ever had
Your loving seemed to be the best thing
That I ever, ever had
Oh yeah
Best thing
(repeat to fade)

Prog rock Styx! I love it.
Great share!! Thanks. Never heard this before, and I'm 54! :-D
This song reminds me a little bit of Sugar Loaf's "Green Eyed Lady"
great overdriven organ
Haven't heard this one in awhile ... Never forgot it though ! Still rocks 🤘😏🤘
My best Styx song ever!!!
Love this STYX song StyxFan93!
This song ROCKS!
Underrated era of a great band
This should have been a hit on the radio!
Hard core fuckin rockers! And, stoners!
Their very first single and best song, EVER??! Released on September 2, 1972, reaching # 82 on October 14. Peaked at #82? What a travesty. :-(
This is why I still listen to the old music, because everything else sucked after the 70s.
yep... favorite Styx song right here! Imagine that.....
A love that crashed and burned.

But it's on my mind what I want to do

Awesome debut single
This song earned them their recording contract.
Gotta love the album cover.
I think this photo could make gay men reconsider their orientation
Styx first 5 albums are the best !!!
I do believe this was their first radio hit. Seen them many times when they first started and did this live. When music and rock ruled...what an era.
there's a weird sort of csn vibe in the intro and harmony
Hey, this song's not bad! It fits into the 1972 prog rock mold inhabited by Yes, Genesis and ELP. I'm generally turned off by many bands' late-70s transition to formulaic "corporate rock". A good example is Jeff Airplane's transition to Starship.
Styx forever.........😶......... 2017
When JC & JY ruled the world of Styx's harder music... So good!
And it absolutely was JY singing. JC sang lead on very few songs. Of course he sang the choruses.
Ahh, you should have heard this song live. I mixed sound for Styx back in '74 & '75 and this song brought down the house. It absolutely cranked. Wish I could find live video from those times. I still have some live audio cassettes which I will have to put up.
Yes, please upload those early live tapes.
Wow!... Now what you experienced and contributed to is some awesome history! I used to listen to these early STYX records of my moms growing up and loved them! And as an adult STYX became my favorite band! Us true fans would LOVE to hear those earlier recordings if you would be so kind...he he he
DrZohm I always think of Frank Zappa when I hear about those evil barbarians with wrenches in their pockets, lol.
Hey DrZohm. Since probably follow these guys closely what is your guess as to why they just don't play this great song live at all? Thanks and boy do I wish I was in your shoes back in the day!!
wow, you worked with them? Thanks!
Who sings in the middle of this song? Is it JY or John Curelewski?
@RavenGames101 That's gotta be JY. JC's voice was higher, if you listen to songs like "A Day" and "You Better Ask" on Styx II, it's easier to identify the voice of John Curulewski.
@RavenGames101 JY
Great stuff
Sounds crappy at first... then rockin guitar comes in. Classic Styx. Deal with it.
THIS IS OUT OF SIGHT MAN REALLY DIG-IT
Styx's Wooden Nickle stuff=better than the stuff that became "hits"
Cornerstone sucked me in as a fan. Once I went back and discovered the Wooden Nickel years I was hooked for life.
I sort of agree but I loooove Equinox and Crystal Ball
Best channel EVER.
I still have this LP on Vinyl. Can't be many left, since it was a limited release.
@jbx1967 I think it's their only album that never charted, so it really must have sold poorly.
@TAFARockWarrior97 It was a limited release, pretty much only in the Chicago area I believe.
Started looking 1974 all I found was an 8- track
I have the LP as well.
I still have it. I bought it at a department store in upstate NY in 1976, so it did get some distribution around the country. I had every Styx album... up until Kilroy.
THE FINEST Styx tune!....Right up there with "Light Up"
Light Up is a great one.
This song erases the poop in my soul.
Remember Styx via Heartsfield in late '74. Spent an entire weekend with a portion of this band....vaguely remember a call on New Year's Eve of '75 from DeYoung to the others on their success with "Lady" as a single while in Fresno. You never know.
+Michael Vaughan remember Art Baldacci...a rockin drummer...
@LASchgos .....Perry Jordan died at 62, I believe. He had health issues and couldn't work again so eventually his house in Crestwood went into foreclosure, then he passed away.
Best song from Styx 1. Brings back the best of my youth! That is to say real music.
excellent cut
I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU ive searched this forever and all i could find was a crap antique live copy that the sound sucked so my friend i bow down to you and happy holidays to bat!!!!!!! <3 now if i could just get a non live copy of boingo's change life would be complete :)
Quality musicianship....quality songwriting...and really quality production. This is good rock music, thank you for posting.
The people that ran Wooden Nickel Records were the same people who once ran Dunwich Records, which, by 1968, became Dunwich Productions. Bill Traut ran Dunwich. Three years before this release, Traut produced the Satanic rock LP called "Witchcraft," recorded by the group COVEN. I corresponded with Traut via email, and he told me the diabolic theme was on other releases too. He named one band after horror writer H.P. Lovecraft too. Styx - the river in Hell.
One of my favorite Styx songs. I remember when they were called the TW4 and played at local catholic high schools on the south side of Chicago, Little Flower,Brother Rice, etc. They used to play a lot of Three Dog Night and sounded just like them. Some great memories!
@www41WorldUSAcom It's actually "Best Thing" not "The Best Thing"
it cracks me up too
This song cracks me up! riffs!
STYX---''THE BEST THING''
Love this song! Been a long-time Styx fan but just recently started learning about the Wooden Nickel songs, thanks to youtube and you!
styx's first hit. and a damn good song too
This is one of the Best Things on their debut.......
PTL for youtube. We get to hear anything we want to as long as it's posted.
Thanks for this. Also love the live version from Milwaukee in '72.
I love this song, one of my favs.
