Strung Out - Exhumation Of Virgina Madison Lyrics

No one knows where I buried my sweet Virgina Madison
The winter chill falls over me and keeps me numb inside
Under the moon, by the edge of town, she'll quietly wait for me
I promised it wouldn't be too long till I returned to sleep with her

She said she don't wanna live no more
Well I don't mind; no, I don't mind
So now I'm waiting for the crack of dawn
To head on back there to the place where me and her will always be

Now I got my Sunday vest and I'm headed out that door
I dig my fingers deep in soil just to get to her
All dressed in black and she's so pale, she's waiting there for me
A blanket of soil covers us to fall asleep in eternity

And now I close my eyes

When I awake with a snap, it was all a dream
I got an empty bottle of something under me
I got a really bad headache, my clothes are soaking wet
It's times like this I wish I hadn't slept

Star-locked gaze, uneasy hands
Then the dream fades away and leaves my head
Another riddle, another dream, another fucked-up fantasy
I gotta learn to stay away from all this TV

She said she will always wait for me
Well I don't mind; no, I don't mind
So now I'm heading to the place where I
Buried my sweet Virginia Madison

    S.... K....

Never got along with the girls at my school..

    S.... K....

@Frank Sobotka Wow! Seriously? A TSOL reference? Hat's off, sir.

    S.... K....

I don't think it's THAT direct. but yes, it's about digging up the corpse of one's deceased beloved...

Fast w/ a double kick; there is faster still: www.reverbnation.com/proof151

When green day invented punk I doubt they would have envisioned this sexist drivel, they must feel great shame

    J.... ....

Green Day? oh, you mean those 50 year old emo kids? 😂

    J.... ....

I love Strung Out but nowhere near the beginning of punk. I hope you're being cynical

    J.... ....

Green day was my gateway to this kind of music actually. I gotta give them that, at least.

    J.... ....

    Whatever lol.

    J.... ....

    Gr8 b8 m8

  12. F.... ....

Strung Out, Lagwagon, No Use For a Name, Pennywise, Green Day's Dookie, Offspring's Smash... I miss 90's so bad :(

    F.... ....

Nofx, Propagandhi, Satanic Surfers, The Descendants, The Dead Milkmen, The Vandals, GOB, SNFU, Fugazi, Bad Brains, Minor Threat.. Edit: Bad Religion, Millencolin, Screeching Weasel, The Drop Kick Murphys, Goldfinger, Suicidal Tendencies, Anti Flag ..

    F.... ....

Yeah punk along with most other genres died years ago. We've got it all to listen to thanks to the Internet though!

    F.... ....

    1994 in particular

    F.... ....

@Shay I prefer your list. They lost me at green day.

    F.... ....

I've never considered Offspring to be a straight-forward punk band or skate-punk band, they more fit the alternative-rock sound. Green Day is garbage. They directly gave birth to crap pop-punk bands like Blink 182, Sum 41 and Good Charlotte,,,much in the same way we blame Nirvana and Pearl Jam for Nickelback and Creed.

  13. W.... M....

Remember the live album version? "I gotta learn to stay away from all this LSD."

    W.... M....

    It's better.

  14. S.... G....

16 when this came out, it was a good year

  15. A.... L....

Awesome!! After 6 years I played this song yet again in my car...the whole day...loud as I can.....Rockin' It!! ^^ Guess what the neighbourhood thinks of me now?....I truly can't care! :p

  16. T.... ....

Gotta love this song especially those guitar riffs

  17. c.... ....

It's obvious you're not a musician or you'd realize Exile in Oblivion is actually amazing.

  18. B.... B....

Oh man that's not cool... I'm not a huge fan of what their sound has evolved into, but it's still awesome music. if you're gonna call the stuff they've put out after 2000 "awful" you better be able to create something better yourself, otherwise fuck off.

    B.... B....

One of the most moronic arguments ever. It's like when someone criticizes a football player some thick idiot pipes up with 'bet you couldn't play any better'. Well of course not, we judge those immensely talented individuals who perform for our entertainment against others. You are officially stupid. Hope you recovered.

  19. S.... ....

Sorry bro, I can't. If I pull my head out of my ass I might accidentally hear some of this band's awful newer albums. I'll stick to the old shit. Congratulations though - you're obviously deaf.

  20. T.... S....

all their shit is good. pull your head out of your ass.

  21. F.... ....

Listened this for the first time when I was 16. Loved it. Now I'm 30 and still loving it... and also brings me great memories!

  22. S.... ....

This song is so fucking good and their most recent albums suck so hard. God this band's style has changed so much it sucks. Like Millencolin.

    S.... ....

Susurro agree so much I used to go watch these guys for the first 3 or 4 albums just went and saw them and they didn't play anything older than twisted I was sp dissapointed

  23. K.... F....

    Awesome song; love this band

  24. o.... h....

Somewhere, way in the recesses of my memory, there is a rocker kid who didn't know shit about what to make of himself, about what to verify, about how to apply and dress well. Who stage dived onto beds, and assumed the wide stance when buying new jeans. That bastard thought this pervy anthem destroyed in '98, the most romantic sentiment too. 14 years later, shit STILL shreds. Real melody punk.

  25. 1.... ....

shit! i can't believe that was so good and now it's just awesome!!

  26. R.... A....

shred the gnar music all day !

  27. A.... M....

    Great song (Y)

  28. m.... ....

2 people were murdered and buried by strung out.

  29. e.... ....

If you're using this song as a base for how good Jordan Burns is as a drummer you're just looking in the wrong place. Elements of Sonic Defiance is where it's at. Check out Razorblade or Scarecrow for really impressive drumming.

  30. m.... ....

in retrospect?! at the time i first listened to them and to this day i still know they are one of the greatest, if not, best punk bands of all time.

  31. b.... ....

can't wait to see them with bad religion and suicidal tendencies in austria at the 30th anniversary tour from bad religion, it's gonna get so fuckin dirty!

  32. C.... ....

    @joccobean

i'll give the drums another listen. sounds awesome the way you describe it.

  33. j.... ....

@oregonflatland Palm muting and syncopated power chords can be hacked out by stoned 14 year olds. Jordan Burns is an all-time punk rock drumming superstar, with little to no equal in speed or timing. (Oh, and I would like to add that this song was "IMPOSSIBLE" on Drum Hero Xtreme)

  34. W.... D....

SHEEEEE SAAAAID SHE DON'T WANNA LIVE NO MORE

    i fucking love this song

  35. m.... t....

One of the sickest punk bands ever with NOFX and Lagwagon....strung out has the best chourus's and guitar riffs!!!!!!!!drummer rips as well!!!

  36. C.... ....

    @BradleyGA

the guitarist is far more impressive than the drummer here, especially for a punk band. or at least they used to be punk. too close to see was on expert in guitar hero.

  37. a.... ....

you must not listen to very much punk

  38. a.... ....

@ShellFitter lol, you need to go to more shows my friend.

  39. S.... W....

who cares about punk, one of the greatest bands ever, the only concert i've ever left that i felt i should have paid more money to see

  40. M.... ....

    @owl316 omg, I'm sorry...
It wasent an actual concert, but it would be the sickest concert ever.
    sorry

  41. o.... ....

@Mikeskiboshskiisme what year was that concert?

  42. M.... T....

@Notespompon nah its pretty standard drumming, its fast sure but not technical in the least. Try Bill Stevenson of the Descendents.. thats some fairly technical punk drumming especially on Blast Off & 'merican.

  43. M.... ....

NoFX, Strung Out, Lagwagon, Millencolin = Best concert ever.

  44. o.... ....

i guess we'll never know where he buried his sweet virginia madison.

  45. D.... J....

@rlbigfish I have yet another interpretation of it. I always thought of it more along the lines of thinking of an ex girlfriend. The beginning is just a dream (he even says so) where he goes into his mind and digs up old memories of her. In his dream he remembers how she told him "she don't wanna live no more." When he wakes up, though, and finds himself wallowing on a couch with the TV on, and instead he remembers that she said that she "won't always wait" for him.

  46. r.... ....

@ryanwreck I always had a different interpretation of it. A lot of the things he says about visiting his dead lover's grave reminds me of the book I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. Only difference is, I think in the book he buries his wife and daughter, and the daughter was who was named Virginia. Anyway, in the bridge of the song, he mentions having an empty bottle under him, and regrets watching so much TV. Because of these facts, I always liked to imagine Jason was watching The Omega Man.

  47. r.... ....

@Isilvarno So Jim Cherry then? That was 12 years ago. Element of Sonic Defiance was incredible, and so was Exile in Oblivion.

  48. o.... ....

@shittyusername1 wow. you hit NOFX's later work spot on right there

  49. j.... ....

this makes me think about my good friend who left us b4 his time... R.I.P.

  50. D.... M....

one of the greatest songs written

  51. t.... w....

@Isilvarno what a bizzare thing to say!

  52. D.... ....

one of the first songs i learned on guitar, many years later i have forgotten it, but my fingers kinda feel the groove like they still remember ;), wish my amp worked id wake up this whole complex...

  53. R.... ....

Strung Out was a better band back in the day. Their new stuff isn't AWFUL, but it isn't nearly as good as this.
And I agree about NOFX. They haven't put out anything worth buying since Valium.

  54. p.... ....

Stop bagging NOFX, they're still good! Strung Out on the other hand, fuck me dead.... awful now. Still, if that's the direction they want to choose then that's their choice. I'll still always enjoy their old stuff.

  55. f.... d....

strung out s dead its been a LONG TIME>.. since important people from the band left it...

  56. R.... B....

    Thums up!

  57. c.... o....

    great song!

  58. T.... G....

    i concure.
