Streisand, Barbra - Yesterdays Lyrics

Yesterdays, Yesterdays
Days I knew as happy sweet
Sequestered days
Olden days, Golden days
Days of mad romance and love
Then gay youth was mine
Truth was mine
Joyous free and flaming life
For sun was mine
Sad am I, glad am I
For today I'm dreaming of
Yesterdays
Then gay youth was mine
The truth was mine
Sad am I
Glad am I
For today I'm dreaming of
Yesterdays, youth was mine
Joyous free and flaming life
Forsooth was mine
Sad am I, oh so glad am I
For today I'm dreaming of
Yesterdays...Yesterdays

were there two takes, one for the television show and one for the soundtrack album? Hard to believe she recorded this and then nine years was recording the soundtrack for A Star is Born.

So she recorded no "good music" from 1974 through 1983 while she was with Jon Peters? Really. In truth she made many of her best records during that period.

Noe Berengena Why didn't you include the first three albums? Is it because she was still coming into her voice and it hadn't developed fully until "People"?

+Henry -- You make a good point. The Second Barbra Streisand Album, in particular, has lots of amazing songs. "When the Sun Comes Out" is spectacular.

Yes, she did but the high points are fewer and farther between. We of the hard core refer to it not quite dismissively as the WHISPER BARBRA era, after PETERS(AND OTHERS) had convinced her to reign in her power, because it was, IRONICALLY, thought too loud to be 'cool' enough for ROCK N ROLL'. THE BROADWAY ALBUM saw her bring back the full throat belting; however 'diminished' by age making her sound more like a bassoon and less like a trumpet. Anything recorded through 1968-ish is TRUMPET BARBRA, however lacking the material may have been. The last good example of TRUMPET BARBRA is evidenced on the last TV SPECIAL, where she holds the note that seems never to end until she nearly passes out on the 'I GOT RHYTHM' medley and also 'I NEVER HAS SEEN SNOW' is a SPECTACULAR example of modulation and unrestrained BARBRA-TO-THE-BARBRA-POWER, not to mention she delivers the whole thing sitting down.

Also, 'WHO WILL BUY' from 'OLIVER' as a ballad, as well as 'RIGHT AS THE RAIN' from 'SECOND BARBRA' are supreme examples of her vocal control. 'PEOPLE' was recorded right before she departed for the LONDON run of 'FUNNY GIRL' and no one knew when she would get the studio time again. So, even though she had a head cold at the time they recorded the album anyway, and thus on some tracks she sounds a little raspy('ABSENT MINDED ME' or 'WILL HE LIKE ME' and particularly 'AUTUMN' for example) but this only ads to her appeal. Also, 'PEOPLE' was the first album to hit #1 on the charts and cemented her status as 'fastest selling female artist' on Earth at the time, making her more than a flash in the pan. The pathos displayed on 'DON'T LIKE GOODBYES' written by HAROLD ARLEN AND TRUMAN CAPOTE, is about as close to wrist-slashing-rainy-afternoon-with-BILLIE HOLIDAY-playing as it gets.
