Streisand, Barbra - When Sunny Gets Blue Lyrics

When sunny gets blue,
Her eyes get grey and cloudy,
Then the rain begins to fall.
Pitter, patter,
Pitter patter,
Love has gone, what can matter?
No sweet lover man comes to call.
When sunny gets blue
She breathes a sigh of sadness
Like the wind that stirs the trees
Wind that sets the leaves to swaying
Like some violins are playing
Weird and haunting melodies
People used to love to hear her laugh, see her smile
That's how she got a name
Since that sad affair
She lost her smile, changed her style
Somehow she's not the same
Memories will fade
And pretty dreams will rise
Up where her other dreams fell through
Hurry new love, hurry dear
To kiss away each lonely tear
And hold me near
'Cause sunny is blue . ..

This was before she went down the Stoney End

This never gets old. Thank you, Barbra.

    Amazing Barbra ❤

  4. R.... P....

I like to point out that this is absolutely cool jazz. Musically it was downhill after this.

    R.... P....

Yeah, it's a shame her career stalled after this.....

    R.... P....

@Chris N LOL..this was even before her phenomenal film career started....(although I guess you're being sarcastic).

    😎😋

    R.... P....

I've read interviews where she was criticized for this album because it was too old fashioned for 1967. Whatever, right?

  5. B.... P....

I've been listening to Barbra for over 40 years. And every time I hear anything she sings it's a feeling like no other. Like the very first time. There will NEVER ever be another Barbra.

My favourite streisand album...I got em all! I would be a very rich woman, if I had a penny for every goosebump this album has given me.

  7. M.... M....

I so love her version of this one. Her photo on this album is so beautiful, she will always be beautiful in face and voice to me. Always!!!!

  8. P.... L....

I have this album. Her singing is absolutely effortless, almost like a musical instrument. Truly beautiful.

Patricia Lavender Almost ?!? She Is The Ultimate musical instrument 😉 🦄

Barbra Streisand performed this song at the BON SOIR Club Greenwch Village in the early 1960s.

  10. C.... N....

One of the songs teenaged Barbra sang to win the talent contest in Greenwich Village that launched her career.

As albums go, this one was notable for its relative lack of fireworks. Barbra's voice has a tonal quality that shows more warmth and intimacy. That's the way I hear it. 11 years earlier this song was recorded by Johnny Mathis, with Ray Conniff and his Orchestra and it was a big hit. Another gem from this album (my favorite) is the song "More Than You Know."

+Noe Berengena I love "More Than You Know." too... yes I do love. "what's up doc" ?

    N.... B....

Invariably Noe... we react the same way to Streisand.

    N.... B....

@Gordon Hall Great to hear from you, Gordon. I hope you are doing well and looking forward to a new season.

    N.... B....

@Noe Berengena you too Noe.   I love the summer.   But fall in New England is beautiful.

    All the best.

Part of that has to do with her voice changing after giving birth, the hormones changed the timbre of voice, lowering it and making it much warmer and more rounded; less shrill and piercing like it had been before. It may have affected her upper range too, she never quite got as high again, but it was better this way as her voice got much richer in the 70s. She often belted without any real feeling in the 60s, so that's why I love this album full of delicate vocals where the emotion is felt because she puts more into it and not relying on vocal gymnastics.
