No one's ever said this on here, (maybe it's not that compelling or interesting) but I think that the reason she went contemporary after this is because Columbia-Clive Davis said she didn't have a choice , if she wanted to stay on the label and that she actually liked %60-70 of the contemporary things she was recording. I also think that the contemporary things she was recording in the early 70s were very good mimicries (like the Joni Mitchell things). She mimics things very well (she mimicked Jimmy Durante in one of her concerts.) The cover of 1988's "Til I Loved You" is kind of an homage to the cover of "Simply Streisand". (But she looks angrier on the second one.)

+Anna -- I must tell you, if you haven't heard it from others already, that you have very refined taste. And I imagine that you take great comfort in this music whenever the crass and course intrusions of today's world show their ugly faces. "More Than You Know" is one of my favorites from this same album. So much finesse in her interpretation.

I don't believe there are any young vocalists today that can hold a candle to Barbra. It is amazing how far we have come with technology but how far we have fallen with popular musical talent.
The Nearness of You is a favorite of many of the singing greats: Sinatra, Dean Martin, Rod Stewart, but you should definitely hear the haunting version sung by the late EARTHA KITT ( the essence of her later years makes it haunting)!
