Streisand, Barbra - Orff: In Trutina Lyrics

In trutina mentis dubia
Fluctuant contraria
Lascivus amor et pudicitia
Sed eligo quod video,
Collum iugo prebeo;
Ad iugum tamen suave transeo

Streisand, Barbra Orff: In Trutina Comments
  1. I.... D....

No,no éste repertorio no es para el registro ni color de ésta señora!.
Es un buena cantante ,pero en su repertorio!!!.

  2. A.... H....

Linda interpretação, nossa alma parece que salta de dentro de nosso corpo lento e simples. A música sempre é algo mais veloz e mais belo do que nossa simples existência, mas que bela música

  3. D.... H....

She does a great job, but her production would reach maybe the first row of the theater.. no comparison to actual classical singers.

    D.... H....

It was never meant to do that.

    D.... H....

She was making a record, not singing in an opera house. It is georgous.

  4. s.... m....

No , no , she have not breath! It is the other kind of music. On the first place is a joy for life In this part ! It is not a spiritual music! So - KATHLEEN BATTLE!!!

    s.... m....

Why can anyone listen with the heart and shut up the mouth

  5. T.... ....

To the detractors: Music is not science, nor must it meet any standard of "perfection". It is art, and it is the most emotionally moving art form. This album is a good example of why Streisand is so popular - she makes the music resonate at a deep emotional level within a majority of people who hear her sing. It can't be defined or quantified, the listener either is moved or not, and that is all. I for one am deeply moved by this performance and have been for 40 years now.
p.s. on the album cover Leonard Bernstein says "Barbra Streisand's natural ability to make music takes her over to the classical field with extraordinary ease. It's clear that she loves these songs. In her sensitive, straight-forward, and enormously appealing performance, she has given us a very special musical experience"

  6. R.... J....

Classical music was the pop music of it's day that being said it was still left up to the interpretation of the performer and who better than Babs!

    R.... J....

Where did you get the idea that classical music was the pop-music of its day ? Previous decades over the past centuries have always had popular music most of which has disappeared due to its ephemeral nature.

  7. R.... W....

The thing to do is to listen to several versions of TRUTINA at the same time. Of course the great opera singer Renee Fleming gives the ideal operatic rendition. But as is with ALL the music that she creates, once again STREISAND makes this song, and the entire CLASSICAL album her own. When you partake of the STREISAND mystique, you go for the experience that is HER, moreso than the songs. That is how you must digest, perhaps, one of the 3 greatest artist of the 20th century or all time that has come so far! 💞💞💞

  8. C.... W....

Fuck Knute Buehler. He will not make Oregon proud. DON'T vote for Knute if you live in Oregon or anywhere

  9. .... G....

    Non classic version but nice!

  10. W.... V....

    Suck this, Celine

  11. D.... B....

It could be beautiful, but she falls away from the line every now and then ... and breathes in the middle of the phrases, too....

    D.... B....

I am deeply disappointed by musical perfectionists. Listen for the emotion, that is the essence.

  12. s.... e....

se me ha puesto la carne de gallina ,

  13. W.... H....

Lets get this quite straight. When Streisand produced the album of classical songs,
she never pretended to be anything but Barbra Streisand the singer NOT a classically
trained singer. She probably knew she would be in for a bit of "stick". for doing it.
Therefore, listening to it from that perspective it is at least a fair and sincere attempt.

  14. B.... ....

Her voice, though pretty, is completely stuck in her throat. It couldn't carry to the percussion section, much less the back of a great hall. This piece needs a power that she just does not have.

    B.... ....

Are you kidding? She has proven fr decades that she utilizes mega watt power for the right material,.She chose not apply that to this piece. It's called interpretation, not limitation.

    B.... ....

@Chris N Wrong! This piece was meant to be sung by an OPERATIC VOICE, WITH PROJECTION AND RING, not by someone mimicking a soprano voice. By the way, the soprano who sings this has to do it softly but MUST BE HEARD in a big house with NO AMPLIFICATION. So it has to do more with technique than with INTERPRETATION. When it comes to classical music, one must follow the composer's dynamics. However, everyone who likes Barbra's version HAS THE RIGHT to do so. But this IS NOT operatic singing nor the way Orff envisioned it.

    B.... ....

My goodness, all this fuss. This isn't Turandot, nor would she attempt it. It's the most tender, longing and regretful part of Orff's suite, and Ms Steisand conveyed its intent pretty darn well, given the era, her daring to tackle some classical reperatoire, her pretty smart choices on that album (yes, a couple weren't in her wheelhouse). Read the lyric again for starters. As it happens, I just attended a performance of CB this afternoon (dont ask about the choreography) and while the soloist sang In Trutina flawlessly, it didn't have half the heart that B delivered. But to each their own, yes?

  15. J.... W....

No point in comparing. Barbara is the one who's angelic rendition is dripping with purity, seemingly beyond the reach of the aforementioned. It instills a sense of sublime tenderness staying within the limits of the reality of life. Lucia is pure operatic excellence with a formal tremolo heavy delivery. It depends on your reason for listening. Additionally, one can only deduce who can hold a long tone perfectly when the tremolo is turned off. I would give Streisand a bouquet of roses, Lucia can keep the scalp.

    J.... W....

    *I just love Barbara Streisand*

  16. g.... s....

    SUBLIME!!!!!

  17. F.... F....

    Bellísima canción

  18. C.... ....

    Just sublime...

  19. L.... F....

    Lucia Popp scalps her.

    L.... F....

What a thin girlie voice compared with Lucia Popp.

    L.... F....

Not trynna disrespect the great Barbra Streisand, but her voice is so hollow here that it sounds dull and lifeless. She is not supporting her voice enough with her diaphragm or opening her vocal chords enough to lift it and produce a ringing quality to her voice. She has no head voice whatsoever that her voice does not float.

    L.... F....

of course she was not trained 15+ years in opera school. But she was good enough to consider one though...... now too old for that.

    L.... F....

It was Barbra Streisand's version of this piece; it's her style, a pop interpretation which is who she is. Now listen to Natalie Dessay's or June Anderson's (w/ Chicago Symphony - James Levine) renditions for how Orr's beautiful but simple melody was intended to be performed and sound like.

    L.... F....

@Lissandra Freljord 1. The perception of dullness and lifeless in her voice is completely subjective. For me, Barbra's voice sounds bright and heavenly.
    2. Your technical appreciation is not accurate. First of all, Barbra isn't intending to sing opera per se here (technically): she's singing with classical crossover style. Second, she is supporting very well every note with her diaphragm, that's why her long legatos are well executed, without losing the control of her voice. She is also opening her throat (not vocal chords) completely. The difference between volumes and emphasis in vocal projection doesn't mean Barbra is creating tension or being flat (or whatever you exactly tried to mean).

  20. R.... A....

i can t  believe   it    . I thought  she couldn t  sing  this

  21. J.... J....

Barbara is a great singer in a genre that suits her style of singing. Orff's Carmina Burana is NOT one of them.

    J.... J....

In this segment of CB, she is

  22. .... ....

Божественная БАРБРА! Божественный голос. Абсолютное совершенство! БАРБРА - это космос!!!

  23. g.... s....

    splendida!!!!!

  24. Y.... A....

    horrible

    Y.... A....

horrible that Barbra hasn't recorded more classics ...I agree!

    Y.... A....

Barbra Streisand es una cantante pop no es una cantante lírica y Ud encarnizadamente critica ;es solo una faceta de su carrera no su objetivo...

  25. c.... ....

Streisand is a fine singer, of course, but she doesn't match Barbara Bonney on this.  Not even close.  Dull and lifeless.

    c.... ....

mannail888's response is rude and he is clearly one of these individuals, who makes hateful statements and hides behind a nom de plume. That said, I did not find the Streisand rendition dull and lifeless, but I agree that Barbara Bonney sings the piece with great depth of feeling. Probably the very best that this piece can be sung.

    c.... ....

Bonney's rendition of this aria is only OK: it's not like she's firing on all four cylinders or prescribing to those afflicted with insomnia, perhaps lying somewhere in the middle.

    c.... ....

Alright mannail88, perhaps you would care to enlighten interested parties, who (in your opinion) performs this magnificent piece to the very highest standard. I for one would welcome your opinion.

    c.... ....

The is no absolute version of this aria, at least on YouTube, despite hundreds of studio commercial complete recordings on the market in addition to various recitals by sopranos through the years. However, Sylvia McNair's version, available here on YouTube, should be shunned at all cost, unless all possible methods in the treatment of insomnia fail completely.

    c.... ....

@mannail888 I seriously doubt that Carl Orff had any intention of this gentle lament to be sung at "all four cylinders". This is the tender heart of the suite. Read the lyric. And breathe a little

  26. M.... C....

    Love her voice!!!

  27. R.... W....

she must've heard CHARLOTTE CHURCH singing this.....WHICH IS BETTER? Streisand is unmatched of course -- but on this one song?????

    R.... W....

CHARLOTTE CHURCH wasn't even born when STREISAND recorded this  :)

    R.... W....

who s charlotte church,,, ah yes another classical singer , ????? streisand has and is still a phénoménal and unparalleled artist

    R.... W....

    Yes, on this very song

  28. c.... a....

    ...and the angels sang...

    c.... a....

^wow I never tought I would hear Barbra Streissand singing  a Carmina Burara aria

  29. u.... ....

Streisand's performance is right there with the world's top Sopranos.

    u.... ....

ushoys i dont think so. She doesnt need in between breathing. He lungs hold 10 liters.

  30. V.... L....

    soooo soooo beautiful

  31. m.... a....

    Acertado, muito especial.

  32. B.... ....

A fine interpretation - nice phrasing.
