Streisand, Barbra - Debussy: Beau Soir Lyrics

In 40 years, I've listened to this song a myriad of times. It still gives me goosebumps.
What I never hear mentioned about this album, is that it was the "STREISAND" album released prior to "A Star Is Born". Everyone knows it was held back for a few years, but I think it was brilliant marketing move.
My own comment on these recordings is how masterful she is with that voice...not a lot of range, but she really knows her instrument. The control, and subtleties are wondrous. I personally am glad she never fully trained, she would not be the phenom that she is.
And the album cover does kick **s!
😢😢😢 beutiful.
Stylistically it is very off. She needed to have practiced/recorded these songs in a big orchestra hall with the orchestra and no microphone or with a condensor mic. Then she would have realized how they are meant to be sung.
Such a sublime instrument Barbra had... phrasing and legato are absolutely gorgeous.
The thing about Streisand is that she approaches every genre of music with respect. She isn't condescending, whether it's classical or rock or love songs or Broadway or whatever. Perhaps it is the actress in her that she sees each song individually. Of course it doesn't hurt that she can utilize her remarkable voice in so many appropriate ways.
.
Incredible! Only 9 breaths in the entire song!Good lungs!Singing in apnea!
Translation for non-French speakers:
When streams turn pink in the setting sun,
And a slight shudder rushes through the wheat fields,
A plea for happiness seems to rise out of all things
And it climbs up towards the troubled heart.
A plea to relish the charm of life
While there is youth and the evening is fair,
For we pass away, as the wave passes:
The wave to the sea, we to the grave.
the best version ever!
meltzerboy You obviously didn’t take the time to read my comments, or you would have noticed that I make the particular point that she’s NOT the best classical/opera singer out there.
And she knew it too, which is exactly why she didn’t make another classical album.
I could reiterate my point that, taken in context, it is what it is—but I’d be wasting my time and effort with you. You are one of those who refuse to look past the end of your nose.
Goodbye troll.
@7JANEWAY Your nasty comment speaks for itself and what kind of person you probably are. I guess civility is a lost art on the Internet.
meltzerboy You ought to know, troll
Her French pronunciation is very good! She even does a good French “r” as opposed to using a rolled Italian “r” like most classical singers. And it’s not heavy or operatic, perfect for French art song. I adore this version!
@matthewk You have good taste--unlike certain others.
SUBLIME
Sing along in English:
No, so solely you could show
Levy beer was so harder
He can't window face off
For solely shoulder blade
I could say that we're all so
Bliss of fear they're sure
That I moved out
Down the curb tomb laid.
Ankle say a devotee
That shone fat nevermore
No seven dawn commission
A color throughout a bone
Calmly you zoom alone
Come, miss, so I step to do
And I lament
My autumn moon
OMG that is awesome!
lol this is not the English translation of the song
When the rivers are rosy in the setting sun,
and a mild tremor runs over the [fields of wheat],
an exhortation to be happy seems to emanate from things
and rises towards the troubled heart.
An exhortation to enjoy the charm of being alive
while one is young and the evening is beautiful,
for we go away, as this stream goes:
the stream to the sea, we to the tomb.
I am actually singing this piece, I have learned the french quite well, but still find this absolutely hilarious!🤣
When the rivers are pink in the setting sun,
And a warm shiver runs over the fields of wheat,
Advice to be happy seems to come out of things
And go up to the troubled heart.
Et monter vers le coeur troublé.
A tip to taste the charm of being in the world
However we are young and the evening is beautiful
Because we are leaving,
Car nous nous en allons,
As this wave goes:
Comme s'en va cette onde:
She at sea,
Elle à la mer,
We at the tomb
Nous au tombeau
The breath control during that very last, long note..fabulous and só very Streisand !
Formidable
In one word, yes. Wish I had thought of it. Expresses well how many "formally/classically trained vocalist wish they had this combination of technical/expressive genius. I had no idea she had such command of French.
paolo zedda mina mazzini's cover of Mi Chiamano Mimi was recorded in 2009, not in 1972
PRECIOSA PRECIOSA ....
this is what's known as a good song. it is the timeless antithesis for today's mass garbage mill of non-music; non-poetry; non-art. This if taken in will transport the listener to a better world, which is what great music is, a better world; an invisible masculine authority; close satellite to God. A Godless, feminine culture will always have as its soundtrack mediocre music-Dave Matthews, REM job, U2.
Your love of music is applaudable. How or why you managed to weave misogyny into your appreciation of a song sung by a woman is beyond my understanding. In my opinion, the ills of our current culture have more to do with male ethics: success over service, goal driven and linear versus contextual and holistic, domination over connection, techno hooks and beats over soulful sensitivity as demonstrated here.
It is Claude Debussy dude :p not a bunch of Idiots writing a catchy tune for Katy Perry to show of her Tits with :D God damn all those porn stars today who have sent the real singers away
+Lohengrin -- Today I was reminded of that cesspool you described because I accidentally stumbled on "Jersey Shore" and had to listen to 15 seconds of Snooki mouthing her inane trivialities. A few minutes later I was listening to the YouTube video "If I Forget You - Danilo Perez Claus Ogerman" and it was like I'd taken a shower.
+James -- politics (governmental and business) in this country is perfectly symptomatic of that macho hard-shoving match. It's something very hard to escape, considering the media saturation devoted to that high-level stupidity. It is really important to perform a daily detox with mind-clearing, soul-bracing meditation. For me that has become an essential exercise to stay centered on life-affirming things.
the saturation with high level stupidity is done on purpose
Tout a fait sublime.
Lorsque le classique est détourné avec goût…!
Bravo Barbra!
