Streisand, Barbra - Being Good Isn't Good Enough Lyrics

Being good isn't good enough
Being good won't be good enough
When I fly, I must fly extra high
And I'll need special wings so far to go
From so far below

Should I try?
Am I strong enough?
Is there time, have I long enough?
Gotta fly and if I fall
That's the way it's gotta be
There's no other way for me
Being good just won't be good enough
I'll be the best or nothing at all

I'll try, am I strong enough?
Is there time, have I long enough?
Gotta fly and if I fall
That's the way it's gotta be
There's no other way for me
Being good just won't be good enough
I'll be the best or nothing at all

Streisand, Barbra Being Good Isn't Good Enough Comments
  1. c.... ....

i ve read the coments , Barbra is world famous,,, lea who is she?? to others countries,,,, so ,, dont need more to say

  2. s.... k....

this cannot be common time right? I can't count it. someone explainnnnnn

  3. T.... G....

There is a dissonant half-step where she sings "good E-nough," it repeats immediately after with "I'll BE the best..." Barbra nails it, but Lea cheats it out and rounds it to a whole step. No judgment as either version sounds amazing, but Barbra went all in and Lea sold out to easy.

  4. T.... G....

She hits the dissonant note that Lea doesn't in Glee. The first example of it is at 2:08. Lea rounds it out and takes the easy way. It's not an easy not to hit in the melodic arrangement, but Barbra hits it without blinking, like she does everything. Perfection. There isn't a sharp or flat note in this entire arrangement. It's all spot on.

  5. C.... J....

    She is the best

There is no need to bash anyone and sure you can prefer whoever you like but let's not be naive. Lea Michelle has a good voice and can sing well but Barbra is light years ahead of almost any singer. Barbra has recorded hundreds upon hundreds of songs and to realize her immense talent, you have to listen to them all! Just listen very carefully to Barbra's vibrato and timbre when she uses her chest voice more aggressively like at 2:42 and of course the final note

  8. M.... M....

I adore this song...Barbra Streisand's version is the best...
Being This Good is good enough..
    Incredible!

  9. F.... D....

The song is from the 1967 Broadway musical "Hallelujah, Baby!" that starred Leslie Uggams, who introduced the song. BTW, the role was written for Lena Horne, who backed out.

  10. M.... ....

was Barbra sick during this recording? her voice sounded a little strained during this performance when she went to hit the "I'll be the best notes". Regardless, she sounds beautiful. The words to this song are very meaningful and still relevant today

  11. A.... J....

There's nothing like the original song. I really love Lea Michele, but Barbra Streisand was and is an icon please

  12. S.... G....

But the Glee version of this <3<3 <3 OMG

    S.... G....

    ...just-don't.

  13. L.... ....

Once again everyone is commenting on two people who aren't even the original singers of this song. Leslie Uggams sang this in Hallelujah Baby in 1968 (the original) thank you and goodnight.

    L.... ....

So what?Just because she originated it doesn't mean others can't record it or even top it."People" has been recorded hundreds of times even though Streisand originated it.

  14. R.... R....

Damn this woman's voice is pure magic

  15. A.... A....

can you believe barbra Streisand invented music

  16. I.... a....

    magical af

  17. R.... S....

    2017? me!

  18. Y.... I....

Both women are extremely talented, I absolutely love both renditions. Yet I believe that more people tend to prefer/say lea's is better and this is possibly because lea seems to use more power. I personally adore both versions, not one more than the other! 😌

    Y.... I....

Yes, It's Steph Barbra has a much stronger and more powerful version, it just doesn't seem like it because of how effortlessly she massages the lyrics.

  19. l.... l....

she is a diva, nobody can Deny, but yes, i line the covers too

  20. l.... l....

she is a diva, nobody can Deny, but yes, i line the covers too

  21. R.... Y....

Love this! And love Lea's version as well :) They are both incredible!

  22. V.... X....

    legendary

  23. O.... u....

    2016? nobody?

    O.... u....

    me! 🙋

  24. S.... D....

    Perfect

  25. s.... i....

I'm gonna be honest. I'm here because of been binge watching Glee on Netflix. Beautiful song. Love Barbra Streisand and Lea Michele 💚

  26. N.... U....

Lea Michele will NEVER be Barbra Streisand. She has nice voice, but not the originality of Streisand. She copies Streisand style singing, and what gives the artist his majority, is his originality.
Streisand wrote the musical popular history since the 60's.
    Let's not confuse things.

  27. K.... A....

Barbra Streisand IS Barbra Streisand. Lea Michele IS Lea Michele.
Being Good Isn't Good Enough is a beautiful Song.
Leave Barbra and Lea Michele be. They're both talented and have put their own stamp on the song.
    Plain and simple!

    K.... A....

+Kai Atkinson Exactly! Bravo! Great comment!

    K.... A....

actually, they don't both have their own stamp on a song. When Lea Michele does that watered down imitation of Barbra, it is nothing short of artistic theft. Barbra Streisand took a song and reworked it to her own voice and style to express HER artistic vision and Lea Michele stole all of that and simply put her voice where Barbra's was. If Lea Michele had any artistic integrity, she never, EVER would have agreed to recording this poor imitation. Making it even worse, is Lea Michele has a thin, shreaky voice and she always over-sings and loses the emotional plot. I'm actually embarrassed for her.

    K.... A....

+Mark Montana can you do it better than Lea? 😒 and I know you won't be able to top Barbra

    K.... A....

@Renée Gros The show called " Glee "

  28. O.... F....

Do you realize if Lea heard you say she's better than Barbra she'd be really offended? I adore her, she's incredibly talented but BARBRA STREISAND IS THE BEST SINGER ALIVE, hands down, so stop it

  29. N.... K....

All the comments on here that are being derogatory to Lea Michelle are disgusting. You all are saying Barbra Streisand is amazing and inspirational and she certainly is. Whilst you are commenting on how this particular song inspired you to your own version of this song, you are forgetting that this song also inspired many artists today, including Lea Michelle. Celebrities had to start somewhere and be inspired by someone too. Get down off your high horse and close your mouth, because no-one wants it open.

    N.... K....

The only artists that comes close to Barbra Streisand is Adele.

    N.... K....

    @Andres Jimenez did you really

    N.... K....

+Andres Jimenez Different style but certainly in the same realm of genius! Love both of them. I understand there is talk of a possible duet...fingers crossed!

    N.... K....

+Andres Jimenez The only artists that is in the same league as Taylor Swift or Katy Parry is Adele.

  30. C.... G....

i love this song! She's so amazing. It inspired me to make my own cover for youtube.

  31. M.... P....

Jeez, her talent is just amazing. The texture and just the transitioning is beautiful. And the way she sustains those high notes is amazing.

  32. G.... R....

    I love Barbra :')

  33. R.... R....

I've found that I've been repeating this song for the past 30 minutes. :D

  34. N.... B....

Classic Streisand. She soars when singing long sustained notes. This ballad gives her lots of room to demonstrate her vocal gifts. Some of you will appreciate that the song comes from the musical "Hallelujah, Baby!" which premiered on Broadway in 1967 with music by Jule Styne (who also wrote the music for Funny Girl). The show was "the story of the African American struggle for equality in the first half of the 20th century." The musical made a young Leslie Uggams a star. Look for that on YouTube and you WILL NOT be disappointed. Her singing is spectacular.

  35. P.... P....

    THE best.

  36. w.... ?....

  37. a.... n....

    OMG! That's what I call being a singer I love Barbra <3

  38. L.... R....

Barbra is the best! Eat your heart out, LEA!

  39. A.... J....

I don't know how she does to maintain the last note..just incredible

  40. L.... V....

she sure does :) and the best phrasing and breath support as well.

  41. b.... ....

Well, Barbra certainly isn't nothing at all. So there's only one other option...

  42. m.... c....

    a mi tambien jeje!

  43. V.... D....

To still have this amazing voice at 70 plus years old is beyond belief. Keep going Barb.

  44. s.... s....

You know what? You can buy your own vibrato.... hahahah

  45. A.... J....

Barbra Streisand has probably the best vibrato in history of pop music

  46. A.... O....

I totally agree with U. LM's voice is still has that nasal sound!

  47. F.... B....

I love Barbra and I have been a fan since I was 5 y.o. however I just recently heard this song.

  48. i.... ....

that last note she sings...its beautiful. i have chills

  49. M.... M....

Being this good,is simply the best.her voice gets you deep down

  50. g.... ....

thee ark of the covenant in that singing:-))))

  51. V.... D....

And she sounds as good today as she has sounded since the first time she came onto the music scene. What an amazing voice. I would say that her and the incredible Karen Carpenter are my two favorite girl singers.

  52. B.... C....

Barbra doesnt need autotuning. Editing every singer does it unless he/she is singing live. Even concert albums would be edited.

  53. A.... K....

barbra is my idol and this is one of my favorite songs

  54. A.... W....

I agree...and I am a huge barbra streisand fan and a Vocal performance major :333
