Streisand, Barbra - A Taste Of Honey Lyrics

Cold winds may blow over the icy sea
But I'll take with me
The warmth of Thee
A taste of honey,
A taste much sweeter than wine
He will return...He will return
He'll come back
For the honey and me
I leave behind
My heart to wear
And may it e?er remind you of
A taste of honey
A taste much sweeter than wine
He will return...He will return...
He'll come back for the honey and me.

Streisand, Barbra A Taste Of Honey Comments
  1. C.... J....

It’s one of those songs that just touches your soul

  2. G.... M....

Loved this version since I was a child.. Amazing.

  3. C.... ....

I don't even like Steisand in general, but this is transcendentally good...

  4. J.... M....

I was afraid i won't like it. And she proved that i was completely mistaken.

  5. C.... N....

As she did so often--and still does--she turned this into an almost classical art song.

  6. A.... C....

    💜🌟🐦

  7. P.... R....

    Smashing!

  8. M.... G....

    Julie London--Peggy Lee--Sarah Vaughan---ALL BETTER THAN THIS

    M.... G....

Thanks for listening to Barbra Streisand

  9. g.... ....

Wow! This is like hearing this song for the first time. She phrases the lyrics in such a way that the words are poignant without being sentimental. Operatic and pop at the same time.

  10. R.... S....

Best version ever...this is one of the great songs of our time. Written for the Broadway production of the English 'kitchen sink' realist theatre play: 'A Taste Of Honey' in the 60's. (Awesome play incidentally, Rita Tushingham in the movie is beyond heart-breaking). Just...perfect lyric/melody.

  11. G.... A....

    She know Morgan

  12. j.... w....

    what interpretation....wow..sublime.

  13. J.... I....

Like her voice, not her. Crybaby liberal loser. Kissing Obama and Hillary's butt. Needs to keep her mouth shut unless she sings. Happy thinking she is probably still crying herself to sleep over it. Like all of Hollywood! Trump 2020!

    J.... I....

Jeffrey G. Schaefer This is no place for political discird!

  14. T.... ....

    Masterful seduction.

  15. T.... ....

love you barbra since i was kid

  16. B.... Y....

I was overseas and think I first heard this song on Moscow Molly's radio show. The played some pretty good music, you just had to ignore the political line. Ki,nd of hard at times, at Christmas that year Molly wished one of our guys a Merry Christmas and described where was at that exact minute and then told him his parents and sibs, she named them all by their first names, were setting down to Christmas dinner at his home in Pennsylvania. He had a hard time for a while after that.
But found the album at the PX and bought it.
    .

    B.... Y....

Augh! I live in Pennsylvania! When was this, that you talked about?

  17. C.... R....

Sweet Barbara, our Funny Girl,  sings this like a folk ballad, an innocent, naive, young girl  and she leaves out the sad ending because she never got to that point in the story on this version.  Makes you think how much richer it is to know the end and survive the sadness of it But Barbara says... oh the poor girl she does not know.....and this rendition  gives us another side of the story. Barbara sounds like a "So Be It" attitude (under the actual words)  Morgana King sang the heart out of this with more of a living, current ache and pain of desertion.  How to top that?   So Barbara had to come up with a good one and it seems she was not her full self.  Makes one wonder what that song means to her as a person as opposed to what it means to Morgana Kings almost haughty under breath "Pretty Baby" remarks.  I would love, to hear Barbara do a new, mature woman version of this painful song.

    jezus wat een gesnater
    nobody will return
    als je zo gorgelt
    bah smerig gezongen
    bovendien is ze rete lelijk

    raar wijf

    P.... T....

    PITCHED FAR TOO HIGH

    P.... T....

    @grai Absolutely!

  21. T.... p....

One of the greatest voices of all time...

  22. t.... ....

with not one singing lesson, this heavenly sound.
surely a gift treasured by many.

    t.... ....

I love Barbra, but she did have singing lessons, which does not take anything away from her gifts, which are treasured, as you so eloquently phrased it.

    t.... ....

she did NOT. it's public knowledge that she never took singing lessons. she went once... and they told her she was singing all wrong... to sing the word "bee" like "bey" and she never went back.

    t.... ....

    it is known

  23. P.... T....

    Heavenly - never bettered,

    P.... T....

Tessa Souter’s version easily betters this. Her Picture In Black and White album was just released.

  24. a.... ....

I would have to say this is a top 10 of favorite Barbra songs, for sure!

  25. b.... ....

Your reply is appreciated. Yes,I suppose it really comes down to personal preference as the comparison of the the two voices is very close, It has always annoyed me that Esther failed to make it on a worldwiide scale and it will have to remain a mystery why it didn't happen for her. If you want to hear the power in her voice hear/watch her perform ' Motherless child'. She almost turns on a different voice.A real powerhouse performance. Thanks again for taking the time.

    b.... ....

    Interesting synchronicity here.

I don't know Esther's version of "Motherless Child", in fact I hadn't heard of the song at all ... until earlier today, when for the very first time I heard the radio in my office playing Eric Clapton's version.

And then while browsing comments, I get drawn to this thread and see your comment here. Go figure!

  26. a.... ....

Yes, I know that. I also love, Herb Alpert's version of this song and Andy Williams too.

    a.... ....

alwaysblistening I love Julie London's version

    a.... ....

@globalcitizenn I just heard that one! Yeah, Herb Alpert's instrumental version is the best. No one sings this better than Peggy Lee, though. Peggy Lee changed the lyrics a little little bit, and I love them!

  27. a.... ....

I listened to Esther's version. I am being honest when I say, I think her version is beautiful and as you say, sweet, but until today, I did not know Esther. I grew up listening to Barbra and for me, I have never heard a better version of this song, sang by anyone, many are wonderful, but Barbra's version is the best, for me anyway. Thank you for telling me about Esther. I will listen to more of her. She does have a wonderful voice.

  28. b.... ....

Esther Ofarim's version of A taste of honey was recorded with the Bob Scott orchester. Bob Scott of course wrote that rather unusual song.l

  29. b.... ....

I urge you to compare Esther Ofarim. If you'r honest Ithink you will agree she surpasses Barbra . Streisand has a beautiful voice but it is a very small voice.Years ago she did a concertt over here in England and the sound engineer described it so,and said it needed a lot of boosting. Esther by contrast can sing at least as sweetly, but also has an amazing power to her voice. She also can sing pop, traditional folk, and can cover various languages She is also the superior performer of the two.

    b.... ....

Have you taken you meds in time on time every time, sweetie?

    b.... ....

i listened to esther's version. she has a very nice ordinary vocal instrument. she lacks vocal purity and emotional connection that streisand's version possesses. there's a reason no one's heard of esther comparatively --- because she doesn't have "it."

  30. a.... ....

    Sure is!!!!

  31. a.... ....
