Streetlight Manifesto - Such Great Heights Lyrics

I was thinking it's a sign that the freckles
in our eyes are mirror images and when
we kiss they're perfectly aligned
and I have to speculate that God himself
did make us into corresponding shapes like
puzzle pieces from the clay
and true, it may seem like a stretch, but
its thoughts like this that catch my troubled
head when you're away when I am missing
you to death
when you are out there on the road for
several weeks of shows and when you scan
the radio, I hope this song will guide you
home

they will see us waving from such great
heights, "come down now" they'll say
but everything looks perfect from far away,
"come down now" but we'll stay...

I tried my best to leave this all on your
machine but the persistent beat it sounded
thin upon listening
and that frankly will not fly. You will hear
the shrillest highs and lowest lows with
the windows down when this is guiding
you home

they will see us waving from such great
heights, "come down now" they'll say
but everything looks perfect from far away,
"come down now" but we'll stay.

  7. c.... ....

When the bike squad has to tell the crowd to get out of their way.

  8. E.... ....

Only Streetlight is capable of taking a shitty, overplayed radio song and straight fucking give it a brand new life... 2:38, I haven’t been this impressed with a breakdown since like 2005, nor have I said the word “breakdown” since then.

  9. T.... T....

This song sucks, i was forced to be here by my "friend"

  10. J.... M....

    Yes! 🎉

  17. J.... B....

I was liking the iron and wine version and then I heard this....incredible

  18. J.... P....

94 people are out of their fucking minds! Streetlight is the best!

  19. R.... ....

  21. G.... ....

When people argue over Iron & Wine and The Postal Service.....

  22. D.... ....

I listened to this before the original song

    D.... ....

    same bro

  23. J.... F....

It was perfect but then they started singing, I feel so disappointed

    J.... F....

Do you just not like the singing part, orr?
Sorry I'm just curious. I know I personally used to not like singing and prefer instrumentals, until I started listening to jazz and started listening to a bunch of different genres.
    Just curious

  24. P.... B....

This is fucking amazing. I'm a big fan of the original but holy shit

  25. J.... D....

2:38 GLORIOUS DROP! I saw the angels

  26. D.... R....

I like this but Confide did this better

  27. W.... P....

Haha weird, I've been covering this song and listening to Streetlight for a long time, but haven't heard this cover!

  28. S.... B....

0:19, when the bari cums in.

  29. P.... I....

i really hope people realize that the covers that streetlight does arent really that much of covers theyre actually alot different from the original most of the time, except with the same lyrics.

  30. C.... O....

Check out my Cover of "Such Great Heights"! Not a fan of spamming comments, but ya gotta start somewhere, I suppose.

  31. R.... B....

    Amazing cover.

  32. M.... D....

    The intro is fucking lit

  33. M.... ....

I love that breakdown at 2:38

    M.... ....

If there's one thing Streetlight knows how to do, it's an epic breakdown.

    M.... ....

    Mr. Glass MR. GLASS!

  34. w.... ....

The original version was too slow for me so this is perfect along with the vocals and the ska feeling

  35. J.... B....

I am still amazed about hear the song. Checked the iron and wine cover before and this is best by far to me.

  36. J.... ....

wow a lot of praise for this rendition. it's crap to me but only because the chorus is so brash and obnoxious with everything going on and the vocals aren't too special. oh well, different strokes for different folks.

  37. T.... ....

    I thought I would hate this. I didn't.

    T.... ....

no one can truly hate streetlight manifesto

  38. C.... ....

Absolutely beautiful rendition! Gave a thumbs up and subscribed. I did a cover of this as well on my channel and would love your thoughts! great job
    -C

  39. a.... c....

I nice uplifted version of a melancholy song. Always rely on a ska cover to make any song fresh.

  40. T.... ....

A ska cover of an electropop song...meh, not bad

    T.... ....

Actually this is not ska. I dont know where did you heard ska on this song.

    T.... ....

Umm the ska riffs and the trumpets and stuff, im pretty sure that's where they heard ska

    T.... ....

+Gabriel Souza he said "actually" so thats how you know its true

    T.... ....

+Gabriel Souza Perhaps the ska instrumentation, syncopated strumming, use of horns, singing style, fast upbeat pace...

  41. S.... ....

    oh my god.
my two favorites ever. this is god tier and has officially made my day.
got derp love for both tps and sm

  42. A.... D....

i thought that this is confide original song, my whole life is a lie

    A.... D....

+Adrian Danan I liked that song...but shame on you

    A.... D....

If you didn't know, this is also a cover. The original is by The Postal Service. Another notable cover is by Iron & Wine. Very different feel, it's a slow acoustic version, almost a lullaby.

    A.... D....

Adrian Danan you thought Confide was the original version. You pour soul.

  43. S.... S....

I never heard the original song until now....I like this version better....

  44. m.... m....

i like the way the instruments sound... but at the very moment they start "singing" this all goes downhill, 0:31 god he's awful! what a shame... the musicians are very talented...

  45. M.... D....

how did i not know this existed??

    M.... D....

    I feel your pain lol

  46. C.... S....

Oh my gosh, I love both versions unlike most covers I've heard

  47. m.... i....

I feel like a bird just took a huge dump in my ears. No I'm just kidding. No I'm really not.

  48. R.... V....

    totally unexpected! great job

  49. H.... R....

Pretty good love the brass and saxophone, gave me an idea of what concert band should do

  50. D.... T....

    It doesn't djent, bye

    D.... T....

    Dank meme, brah.

  51. J.... C....

For those wondering, fuck yes they can pull this off live. and in their usual fashion they do it faster. every member of this band is insanely talented

    J.... C....

    Gaby Uribe nice comment

    J.... C....

Jose Catez yeah i totally agree. go ahead and google the guitar tab for red rubber ball and try to play it at the same pace, i dare everyone who sees this comment.

  52. V.... S....

I think we can all agree that all of the covers are pretty good. Except the confide one

    V.... S....

    @Tomáš Michalčík
Yeah, I found that on Vidzone on PS3. It's terrible and yet it's also the only version on there.

    V.... S....

I just watched the first 30 seconds of that video not even a whole minute ago

  53. G.... F....

The truth of life has been revealed, Google *_truth contest_* and click the first link. We can finally know the answers to life's greatest questions.

    G.... F....

    awesome stuff

  54. L.... z....

confide's emo kids don't know how to music ¬¬

  55. u.... f....

    June for english 0:46 1:02 1:38

  56. M.... G....

I think this is better than the original and any other cover : )

    M.... G....

    You and I both bud.

    M.... G....

    @UOducks6 Yes, yes we are.

    M.... G....

    @Storm Twip nope

  57. d.... L....

I love both versions, but Streetlight Manifesto lacks the 'sweetness' of the original by Postal Service. Nonetheless, great cover by Streetlight Manifesto!

    d.... L....

Absolutely agree with you! Both versions are really good that it is just a matter of which style one prefers as both are so well-executed in their own style.

    d.... L....

+Sang Hyun Lee I think the original is sappy. Can't stand the generic vocals and performance of the original version.

    d.... L....

Both? There are more than two versions of this song. Iron & Wine did it too, and apparently some screamo band called Confide lol.

  58. G.... G....

The original version of this isn't by The Postal Service, it's by Iron and Wine.

    G.... G....

You are incorrect sir, other way around.

    G.... G....

A quick Google search has proven me wrong. My bad, y'all, and thanks for the civility.

    G.... G....

@Gabe G. This is the comments section of YouTube.  You aren't supposed to admit to being wrong.  You're just supposed to angrier and racist.

    G.... G....

Guys, why are you not arguing? Are you trying to create a black hole that will swallow the whole internet?

  59. T.... J....

This is simply the best cover of this song. Then again I am a biased ska-junkie.

    T.... J....

Ska or not, it just feels right

    T.... J....

Tyler Johnson the horns in the intro are alittle annoying at first, but past that its fantastic; everything mixes togeather so well and Thomas's voice just kills it

    T.... J....

Iron and Wine has a really good cover of this song, but geez do I love ska.

    T.... J....

This man understands the biased Ska junkie lifestyle. Streetlight for mayor

    T.... J....

Personally, I think the horns in the beginning are easily the coolest part about this. It's very intricate and is a super interesting take on the original opening from The Postal Service, and the lack of something equivalent is why I didn't really like Iron and Wine's cover.

They had said before that they didn't really play this song live because the beginning is so easy to mess up, but the last time I saw them live in concert and nailed this song, it was super amazing. I didn't really ever expect to see them do this song in concert, honestly.

  60. M.... ....

Covering a song is really hard, because if you do it your own way, like Streetlight Manifesto and Confide both did, then people can easily criticise it for not suiting the song. But if you make it too similar to the original, people will say you just copied it and didn't try to make it original.

    M.... ....

People are quite hypocritical huh ? I make music and I even can't decide on what instruments I want to use. I have a HUGE range of influences from Metal to Trap and I can't make myself happy sometimes. It's just how music is.. like building blocks

  61. N.... ....

The Postal Service does the best version of this song. This version has a nice sound, but it's too brash for this song, it looses it's sweetness. And Confide's cover is just too agressive for this song. Postal Service has the best version because the sound goes with the song.

    N.... ....

You should listen to Iron and Wine's cover. its really calm and beautiful.

    N.... ....

This goes well for certain people. The song (all versions) contains a feeling and to some, such as myself, this is the sound of that feeling. Both versions are good though

  62. B.... ....

I always feel that this version of the song makes the idea of the 'Great Heights' falling down is that they are on the ground, watching everyone higher up collapse; sort of the opposite of the impression the original gave me. I like that.

  63. M.... I....

3:00 the best part of the song, i commented so I had my own repeat button

  64. P.... D....

Confide's cover made me want to kill myself then I listened to SM's cover again :,)

    P.... D....

Pharoah Dox glad you made it back around :-)

  65. S.... S....

shit trash and complete crap version 0/10. Any muppet can fast foward a song a called it a "remake" took all the feeling, emotion everything out of the song. GJ shit band.

    S.... S....

I'm not sure if you know what a cover is but this whole album is a cover album. No a "remake". Personally I think this version is much better put together than the original, but that's what you get when half your band has music degrees. Don't knock streetlight. TohKay is one of the greatest song writers in modern music.

    S.... S....

    its fucking shit

    S.... S....

^^^This guys a troll and being a party pooper. Refrain from feeding his pathetic need for hate and enjoy the good music!

    S.... S....

    lmao trash chav

    S.... S....

    Gr8 b8.

  66. N.... M....

Dude, whoa!! Streetlight Manifesto cover > Gay confide cover

  67. G.... O....

You know this is probably my favorite version, but you guys should check out Joy Kills Sorrows version of this song. Its really good too!

  68. R.... H....

Nothing can beat the original, this is really awesome.

    R.... H....

I feel you might be missing a 'but' in there.

  69. A.... D....

I prefer this cover over the original version

    A.... D....

I have to agree. I like the music in the first one and the singer's very nice, but the band and Tomas just sell this song as not just a great cover, but a great Streetlight song.

  70. d.... ....

carmen hoc paularum memoriarum bonarum ab horis malis me commonefacit.

this song reminds me of some few good memories from dark times.

  71. A.... ....

this is actually better than the original and thats really creepy because i love the postal service but the tempo on the original is out of whack for the instruments used.

  72. A.... C....

    Better than the original, wow.

  73. k.... c....

    Perfect

  74. T.... ....

    Such an awesome cover

  75. I.... M....

Lucky you. I wish I could go to their concert with the girl this song reminds me of...

  76. S.... ....

    They fucking nailed it

  77. M.... B....

Postal service is the original creator of the song. Just look it up people.

  78. T.... L....

This really sounds like Such Great Heights by Confide. Which came first?

  79. C.... ....

im 20 years old and i'll admit i giggled a little

  80. N.... M....

One of the best live shows ive been to, first time hearing this cover, love it!

  81. J.... G....

going to see them in a month with the kid this song reminds me of :) im stoked

  82. b.... ....

    Forever incredible

  83. J.... H....

I can not figure out the intro to this

  84. D.... S....

    lol the url

  85. G.... ....

I honestly like this version more than the original, which felt a little too... background. This version takes my attention more.

  86. M.... O....

This was the song me and my ex boyfriend listen to the first time we kissed. I don't like ska music but I have listen to it everyday since. I still do now even though he ended it with me.

  87. L.... F....

Exquisite blasting at the speed of life

  88. A.... T....

It might be just because there is some irregular phrasing in the song; the guitar part after the chorus, for instance, is a three measure phrase where someone's ear probably expects four.

  89. b.... ....

Toh Kay is a beautiful man

  90. c.... ....

This is one of the best covers by Streetlight. Kalnoky is God. End of argument.

  91. t.... t....

so go listen to the original

  92. T.... ....

So you're asking if people, who don't like this song as much as the other one, would want to listen to this instead of the other one?

  93. R.... P....

to everyone that doesn't care for streetlight's version: if you had to pick between this version or confide's version to listen to for the rest of eternity, which would you choose?

  94. A.... U....

    troll will always be troll

  95. r.... s....

i just do not like the brass in the intro and i find the vocal forced. i'm sure it's because i will forever compare the cover to the original (and rightly so (in all cases)).

nothing against streetlight manifesto; they've put out some good tunes. i'd skip this though.

  96. X.... ....

How is it hard to listen to? Because if you mean how most of the song is filled with each instrument contributing something to it then yes, that is the point.
