Stranglers, The - Sometimes Lyrics

Someday I'm going to smack your face
Someday I'm going to smack your face
Somebody's going to call your bluff
Somebody's going to treat you rough
Sometimes there is only one way out
I've got to fight

Sometimes I get to feel so mean
Sometimes I get to feel so mean
Sometimes you look like you're too clean
Sometimes I see the in-between
Sometimes only one way
I've got to fight

You're way past your station

Beat you honey till you drop

You're way past your station
It's useless asking you to stop
I got morbid fascination
Beat you honey till you drop

Sometimes you're going to get some stick
Sometimes you're going to get some stick
Somebody's standing in our way
Somebody's gonna have to pay
Sometimes there is only one way
I've got to fight

  25. P.... D....

First song from the first album. Brutal mysogynist lyrics. lots more to cum.

    P.... D....

    No they weren't mysoginists.
You should read the book about the meanings of the lyrics.
People get Golden brown is about heroin but not much else.
As women we would not have listened to them back then if they were cunts.
    This song works both ways.
    Do some research.

  31. C.... A....

It's just wonderful. That bass tone, Dave's keys the sctachy chords and Jet's beat. Everytime I hear this i'm taken back to a certain wild, exciting time in my life. For me, the best band ever and the best album ever.

  32. s.... m....

Still sounds like breath of air.
    I miss those days 👀

  33. R.... A....

Ah... dont make 'em like this anymore!!

    W.... T....

    it's pure Tiger

  35. r.... s....

Something of "The Doors" in their sound in those early days. All great musicians as well as talented composers. They work so well together as if they knew instinctively what each other was doing. Not many groups can do that.

  36. G.... F....

One album that still stands tall..

  37. c.... p....

    15 connards

  38. m.... ....

This album was a formative part of my youth.
They were always outside of the big blast of punk, but they were a really great band. People who loved them really loved them, and I am one of them.

  39. P.... S....

  48. p.... ....

The best album to come out in that dynamic year.

  49. J.... G....

Magnificent opener to a stunning debut album. Never heard anything better than this band

    J.... G....

Best track from the album. Still gives me shivers.

    J.... G....

alex brown Exceptional words but I have to add they were there from the start and really played their part,I would suggest Television with Marquee Moon or maybe Patrick Fitzgerald’s Safety pin 45,!,

  50. J.... W....

The only band I ever joined a fan club of. Still sounds brilliant all these weeks later ......(Ok, years, nay decades!)

  51. P.... B....

I remember listening to this on my cassette recorder in my bedroom hoping my mother couldnt hear the lyrics. Ah to be 16 in 1977....

    P.... B....

+Peter Boyland Ah for your mums legendary hospitality :)

  53. G.... S....

ma quanto erano AVANTI, questi ??? Incredibile. Ultra-moderni

    G.... S....

    Giorgio Spada
Se pensi che è uscita nel 1977, in piena epoca Punk, direi proprio che erano anni luce avanti a tantissimi gruppi!

  54. C.... ....

Listen and learn kids. This is how it's done. One day he's going to treat you rough. Box fresh after 45 years.

    C.... ....

    +CapnChapster i see the band in 1983 and...2 weeks ago with my 2 daugthers (19 and 20)..

    C.... ....

+CapnChapster ...box fresh, yeh tis so.

    C.... ....

+CapnChapster 45 years? someone can't do their maths

  55. S.... g....

what I love about the 'glers (as we used to call them in 77) is they weren't afraid to jump on stage and take a big steaming shit in front of these spoiled little punkers. Sure, they got lumped in with punk but these guys were the real thing - real men who took real dumps. those days weill be rememebered

    S.... g....

Gotta ask, do you mean that they took literal dumps on stage? Or were they metaphorical dumps? Either is quite plausible.

    S.... g....

I was just making a really dumb joke but i mean, those were wild days and from what I understand anything could happen

    S.... g....

    thats just fuking rude

    S.... g....

seen them loads of times but i think that would have stuck in my mind what do you think jo jo

  56. T.... F....

The Doors go punk ; love this band :-)

    T.... F....

+Tim Faulkner They certainly had some punk elements but i think they are more of a alt-rock (with those solos, bass lines and jets drums) and somewhat of a standalone new-wave.Altough they have punk elements i think your statement is a bit of an overgeneralization :D

I forgot to mention the Dave's magic on that keyboard !the man is a genius.

    T.... F....

THE STRANGLERS ARE PURE PUNKROCK SO WERE THE DOORS/// FUCKING DEAL WITH IT TAKE YER KOOK SHIT BACK TO COLLEGE AND WRITE A PAPER NERD///

    T.... F....

But he's right about them sounding like the doors - always wondered why I like them both so much !

  57. c.... ....

surely the stranglers best harmonics between 2:50-3:30

    c.... ....

+craigivar ...yes, such romantic lyrics also.

  58. j.... ....

Just as a movie states what it's all about in the first 5 minutes, so do The Stranglers with this, their opening track from their first album. Brilliantly psychedelic organ and guitar, Hugh's vocal and that relentlessly churning, solid ( wooden? ) sounding bass. They got lumbered in with the punk scene and indeed they adapted and benefitted from it, but they were always far superior in terms of musicianship, songwriting and suss! Brilliant.

    j.... ....

+jayaybe1 I`m a bigger fan of the Clash but The Stranglers did serve a longer and tougher musical apprenticeship as Cornwall said `we did`nt play to a loft full of journalist`s `. One of their early gigs was a valentine`s day ball where the whole audience walked out!

    j.... ....

    +electricleg Cornwell.

    j.... ....

    @Mikel Fuertes
    sorry.

    j.... ....

I think with any band that came out during this timeline they definitely would’ve played a gig with a well known punk band a time or two. They’re unique and kinda got lumped in with punk ethos but stood out for the most part to me even better then their punk friends bands.

  59. V.... M....

Классная музыка была. Через этот альбом я вживую познакомился с панк-роком. Ставил на дискотеках в ТРТИ году так в 1979-80-ом.

  60. d.... w....

    What a great song.

  61. d.... ....

Had these on vinyl, those were the days of good music.

    d.... ....

    This were the best days

  62. P.... D....

ask the Stranglers if they are misogynists. No they are misathropists.

    P.... D....

+Paul Dillon.....mysoginistic?... ssssssssexist.you have to be a feminist these day's to get your end away!

  63. S.... W....

    This is the Stranglers.

    S.... W....

    They had a Danish.

  64. l.... m....

    what a song top 5

  65. d.... h....

timeless - as good today as it was all those years ago......
    CLASSIC
.....................and what's the banging door at 00:27 all about????!!!!

    d.... h....

Dust on the vinyl causing the needle to partialy lose contact momentarily.

  66. 4.... ....

Still sounds as good today as when I first heard it crackling over an old Bush wireless back in '77. Actually the same wireless I'm pumping it through right now. What a band.

    4.... ....

Unfortunately they (well the JJ Burnel showband) went back on their ethos and played Israel.
    I'm a lifelong fan and I can't take that.
Bear Cage,Shah Shah a go go etc. #BDS

  67. o.... ....

    new favorite band

    o.... ....

    The best......

  68. P.... O....

    Legends, great live.

  69. f.... z....

un des meilleur disque que j'ai écouter

  70. t.... ....

STRANGLERS = #1 punk band, I love their lyrics and political comments too

  71. W.... N....

"The problem with blah-blah-blah..." Just enjoy the music. So the Ramones made money. I don't care who deserves what. JUST LISTEN! eNJOY! :)

  72. M.... ....

I was also joking. Would that be a male or female supermodel? Anyway, I still love you.

  73. M.... ....

It was a joke. I wouldn't have anything to do with a religious twit if they were the last person on earth and looked like a bloody supermodel.

  74. M.... ....

Lol... I'm married and I live in Brazil, so I don't think it will work out.

  75. M.... ....

Send me a recent photo of yourself and I'll let you know if I'm interested.

  76. M.... ....

    Anyway...I love you!

  77. M.... ....

I got an education. You need one.

  78. M.... ....

Salvation is with Jesus Christ, as I said. Your comment was nasty, not the subject matter, and yes, I understand the lyrics. What about the poor Mr Planx?

  79. M.... ....

Salvation from god is with god. Think about it. If you think this is nasty, then why are you listening to the Stranglers for? Can't make out the lyrics? Sheesh.

  80. M.... ....

That's nasty! Save your pity for the poor, they really need it and don't give me too much attention either. Besides, if you pay taxes, you're a slave, just saying. I won't respond if you use the S word, the F word, or any other derogatory slur. Salvation is with Christ! Amen.

  81. M.... ....

Offended? No. I do pity you for being a voluntary slave to total bullshit, though.

  82. M.... ....

Most bands are pagans or atheists, same thing to me. I don't really care what their beliefs are, I listen the their music but I don't worship them. Jesus is my King! I hope you're not offended by that.

  83. M.... ....

You do realize that the Stranglers are atheists, right? LOL

  84. m.... ....

I see the One Direction taking place. It ain't good.

  85. M.... ....

Thank you for such a nice reply, I learned something new today! May the Lord bless you and keep you. Amen.

  86. M.... ....

Hi there, JJ is just the best isn't he ? Ok, in roman numerals, honestly, 4 can be IIII or it can be IV, I honestly tell you that. Glory is definitely to Jesus my friend. :) x

  87. M.... ....

Okay thanks, it's just that in roman numerals 4 is IIII not IV. VI represents 6, but I get it! JJ is my numero uno bass player. All glory be to Jesus.

    M.... ....

4 is IIII on clock faces for some weird reason but 4 in Latin is IV

  88. M.... ....

    What does IV mean?

  89. S.... ....

    great solo. brilliant band

  90. M.... ....

As much as I would like to agree with you, I see the opposite direction in music taking place.

  91. s.... s....

    Some day, Mr Planx

  92. P.... O....

    yeah your right

  93. c.... ....

    fucking great

  94. L.... f....

Yeh Have heard similar story alright Jet going to do partial tours he sorta semi retiring A guy called McAuley"s been playing drums for em at several shows Though JJ said about 3~4Yrs ago that if jet was out o the picture totally then the band would end.

  95. S.... ....

That's what i've been hearing mate. In all honesty, i think they are going to carry on mainly for the fans. Obviously it won't be quite the same band that formed all those years ago, but i think the fans kind of accept this as the line up changes taken place slowly over such a long period of time. Apparantly, Jet was not playing the Aberdeen and Dundee gigs as the venue was too small to get two drum kits on stage (glad i went to Edinburgh). Think Jet will be contributing to the album though

  96. L.... f....

Don"t tell me they are now going to carry on without Brian duffy??Alias Jet Black? In theory that only leaves J.J as the only original member (Yeh i know Daves been there since 75) Pathetic really they must need the cash or something? How can they use the stranglers moniker?

  97. S.... ....

The current tour is Jet's last with the band sadly. He is only able to play half of each gig (second half). But the Stranglers will be working on a new album next year and will be touring the following year. It's not quite over just yet ;)

  98. L.... f....

Another factor in them not being mega was their singles choices(or record Co"s) E.g "Let me introduce you to the family"Was the 1st single lifted from La Folie LP was it not blatantly obv that Golden brown stood out as a classic hit? Then they followed it up with a shaggin french song(La Folie)Abso Ridic! This trend blighted their success & the fact Burnel didnt want to crack the U.S where bands like the Clash did
