Stranglers, The - Second Coming Lyrics

Somewhere in Africa, somewhere in Rome
People are sleeping awake in their homes
Waiting for shepherds to attempt to their sheep
Their disappointments they're piled in a corner

A second co - ming will come in
A second co - ming will come in
A second co - ming will come in
A second co - ming will come in
(It will come in)

Turn on the sets and then wait for the show
Will he have blond hair and what will he know
Will he tell jokes or will he make us cry
If we write to him will he send back a reply

A second co - ming will come in
A second co - ming will come in
A second co - ming will come in
A second co - ming will come in
(It will come in)

Like everybody I wait for the day
Like everybody I'll send him away
He may be ugly and have problem hair
Even speak funny and make all the people stare

A second co - ming will come in
A second co - ming will come in
A second co - ming will come in
A second co - ming will come in

Second coming (It will come in)
Second coming (It will come in)
Second coming (It will come in)
Second coming (It will come in)
Second coming (It will come in)
Second coming (It will come in)
Second coming (It will come in)
Second coming
Second coming
Second coming
Second coming
Second coming (It It It will come in)
Second coming (It It It will come in)
Second coming (It It It will come in)
Second coming (It It It will come in)
Second coming (It It It will come in)

Stranglers, The Second Coming Comments
  1. P.... C....

    My bed jiggled.

  2. p.... n....

Possibly the most underrated album of all time.

  3. K.... ....

    Wish he'd hurry up. World's a MESS

  4. C.... C....

Was coming off the station a couple of mornings back 8:30am, there's a guy outside singing this loudly. He half near shit on discovering I could sing along! .... I stretch the definition of singing but so did he! :D

This is a commendable trend that's worthy of expansion. I pledge to bellow out "Thrown Away" outside Manchester Piccadilly tomorrow morning in solidarity. Anyone else up for something similar?

I keep singing feel like a wog
    .
    It doesn't go down well

I had the opposite experience once with Klaatu's "Long Live Politzania". I mean I was the one allegedly singing it. 🤣

  8. a.... ....

this is the holy grail of albums that aren't popularly recognized

  9. M.... H....

    @strumbolli Agreed one hundred percent.

  10. M.... H....

    A classic album.

  11. s.... ....

This album has matured ,I wasn`t too keen when it came out ( The Black and White and The Raven were hard acts to follow) . Dave Greenfield is fantastic on this album . Alot of the late 70`s bands struggled when the 80`s came along ,far inferior bands were championed as the new thing ,but if you look back now this stands out as an extremley complex album with superb musicianship (as usual) throughout.
I agree a largely overlooked classic

  12. S.... D....

I agree, I love their 1st 7 albums. But this is one of my favorites. The sound mix on all of these songs are dark and brilliant.

  13. m.... ....

One of my favourites as well. Saw them perform most of this LP in Toronto. Waiting for the Meninblack is cool too. * JJ jumped off the stage and smashed some guys tape recorder, the show almost ended! Hughs tele playing on this one is awesome.

  14. i.... ....

I always thought it was the best one as well.

  15. s.... ....

for me it's their best album - one reason is because it was the first album i owned that was psychedelic without relying on 60's references...i loved it's combination of psychedelic/post punk , and still do...and of course the humour - it's an edgy, creative, and funny album, a largely overlooked classic in my opinion...

I think we all agree on this. The Stranglers were just too far ahead of even their fans at this point, and it took them a long time to catch up. I have to say that I liked most of this album from the beginning. Cost them their contract with Liberty though. Shame.
