Stranglers, The - Norfolk Coast Lyrics

I was a loser in the loving wars
I took my treasure to the Norfolk Coast
You did it to me
You did it to me
And now you see
What's left of me

I walked alone on the Norfolk Coast
With the screams of the birds they echoed around my mind
With the screams of the birds they echoed around my mind

I was a coward in the loving wars
You were for ever, I was just a pause
You did it to me
You did it to me
And now you see
What's left of me

I walked alone on the Norfolk Coast
With the screams of the birds they echoed around my mind
I walked alone on the N walked alone on the Norfolk Coast
With the screams of the birds they echoed around my mind
With the screams of the birds they echoed around my mind.

Stranglers, The Norfolk Coast Comments
  1. klaus vanderlick

VU! à la gespe à tarbes, petite ville paumée de france... un super souvenir :D

  2. Andrew Cole

This band gets BETTER with time.

  3. Robert Roberts

Very good impersonation of good old Hugh!

  4. speleokeir

Best song on a really good album.

    Andrew Cole

    I Don't Agree!

  5. Mark Laviolette

    Christ almighty! I can't stop playing this tune! It's fuck'n great ;)

  6. Mark Laviolette

This should be re-released as a single.. with a decent live version of 'Tank' as the flipside! Think about it.. ;)

  7. Mark Laviolette

FUCK yeah! now this is what I'm talking aboot! strangled in aberdeen.. ;)

  8. Den Dan

Some songs you just can't do justice without Paul. I know he was a poof an would act a tit at time but he had presence and lit any gig i saw him front. He didn't deserve the shit from fans he often got. But yeah the band are better without him though, breath of fresh air was Baz.

    Hubert Humperdinck

He did deserve the shit. He snapped his fingers like Val fucking Doonican. How un-Stranglers can you get?

    Ray Enbow

@Hubert Humperdinck Too right he did, he was a bell end. He was the sort of person The 'real' Stranglers would have taken the piss out of when they first started.
They lost all credibility with me when they took this knob on board.

  9. Celtic Warrior

Baz actually sounds like Hugh on this track but I will always prefer the original Strangler and Stranglers!

    Den Dan

Don't think Baz even sang a single song on this album, could be wrong but i'm sure his 1st song was on the 16 album.

    RedWhiteBlack

    That's the Telecaster effect!

    Chris Mount

Baz never did lead vocals on Norfolk Coast. Baz and JJ had to remix Suitexv1 after Paul left and they have both shared the vocal duties on Giants as well and most probably on their next album as well. They will be show casing four or five new songs on their March tour.

    MrBazzabee

Baz didn't sing on this album. It was all Paul Roberts.

  10. White Tigress

purr, purr, purr, purr (and tigers aren't supposed to be able to do that. Well, not until now.)

  11. john smith

I'd have loved to have heard Cornwell do this. It has every other signature of the Stranglers-awesome arpeggio keys-wall rocking bass-solid, inornate beat, beach boys woos.

    marsupial mole

    nice synopsis

  12. mark peters

Been a Stranglers fan for almost 40 years. I do love the Norfolk coast. Holkham, Wells-Next-The-Sea, Sheringham, Cromer. Been all over the World but can't beat it.

  13. lanslater

I do believe Hugh has the superior quality voice and I was sad about the parting of ways Yet I'm still glad the band carried on after he split They've done some great songs since.

    Ben Manning

+lanslater thats a much nicer comment id definitely agree with rather than your death threat earlier. what a thug.

    lanslater

your pink elephant is wilting for you at the back door amigo

  14. Barry Aluminium

Intro sounds like Muse before there was Muse.

  15. Ben Manning

wish hugh cornwell was singing this as its the only good song these fools have written since he left.  its obvious the lead singer is doing a fool impression...

    Paul Wood

Any way you slice it no one wanted Hugh to go. Most of us move on. The band moved on and the fans still come. Baz ain,t Hugh but sure as hell Hugh ain,t Baz but thankfully we get to see great music performed live from all forms of the band. Sadly some people only see the world through their own view which is the only view. While they troll the rest of us get out in our droves, meet up and have a damn good night.

    Barb Rogers

It's hard to live up to Hugh but it's good , I wish I could have seen the original

    Rick Jones

ACTUALLY HE IS A GREAT VOCALIST

    stan beattie

@Rick Jones maybe .???? but he was defo a dick

    stan beattie

  16. Mark Butler

Nothing but good stuff from the boys.
