Yea, one of the FUNKIEST BASS LINES in PUNK and FUNK rock.

This wonderful clean and hard Bass has become very rare, but is now relived by my favourite hard rock band. It is an all-female group from Japan called BAND-MAID and their Bassist MISA plays an awesome 5-string Bass with a very similar sound. I have loved the Stranglers for many years, and I've seen them many times. At a concert I attended in Los Angeles, in about 1981, they were jamming away when some totally wasted jackwad from the audience ran up on stage and took a wobbly swing at JJ Burnel. Burnel sidestepped the guy and avoided the punch, kicked the guy in the chest, knocking him backwards onto his ass, and finished the song without missing a note. It was the most awesome thing I've ever seen at a concert, and I've seen a lot of crazy shit.

Jean Jacques Burnel of the Stranglers and Derek Forbes of Simple Minds are easily the two best bassists of the 80's. JJ was so adept at the Pheonix Concert theater here in Toronto, circa '97-98 that he kept on playing while reefing on the black hash skliff i held high for him at the front of the mosh pit (after he visibly started sniffing). wordisbond.

Back in 1984 I would play Glittering Prize to friends wanting them to hear that base. They just thought I was gay! LOL
