Stranglers, The - Goodbye Toulouse Lyrics
Your streets were paved with love
Your skies were blue
Goodbye Toulouse
I walked your streets in fear
Toulouse
Goodbye Toulouse
Your cafes tell the tale
Of saddened millionaires
Toulouse
A million dreams I've had
A million lies I've told
Goodbye Toulouse
Paula looked down on me
From her high balcony
Toulouse
I will return some day
So you can hear me say
Farewell
Goodbye Toulouse
Goodbye Toulouse
Goodbye Toulouse

Stranglers, The Goodbye Toulouse Comments
I really like The Stranglers but since I discover they made a song about my native city i'm even more.
Toulouse, native city of Jean-Jacques, south of France
Macquarie uni lecture
The stranglers smashing it up brill
Love the beginning, with the wonderful effect of turning a tone wheel organ off and on again. Something kids of the digital age will never know.
just listen to the music.
They had this ,in the locker 2years before the album came out.goes to show how good they are
Saw them in Poole 1981. Next time at Larmer Tree 2 yrs ago. Rattus.....if Carlsberg did albums
Great sound quality, Cheers
Epic Song
My most favourite Stanglers bass line ever,On a good day I can just about play it.
I was trying to broaden myself by listening to Magazine, "The Light Pours Out of Me". During the intro, at about 49 seconds, I was simultaneously stricken with a dreadful sense of ennui and an irresistible compulsion to hear the intro to this song. Here now. Ennui banished. Lovely. (I might even fling myself OFF this settee.)
Light pours out of me another classic
Love you RavenInBlack. "When you fly, you're wild." xxooo, Kitti
The Stranglers 1977 Roundhouse, London.... Definitive!
I was there as well
such a great song
Bitter sweet feelings about this song. Always loved it, then one night as I listened to it got dumped by text! Thought my name had become Toulouse!
Bollocks to her! Back on the bike again after falling off (that's what soldiers have to do) and enjoying tune again.

that bass hits you then the rest then its game over
Hello! Please, receive Greetings to all of you from Toulouse where I live since 1984. Goodbye !
3/4 time and a celebration of a great city
One of the best live shows I ever saw- The Stranglers in East Lansing, MI 1978
hello stranglers,goodbye toulouse.
jean-Jacques is one of the greatest bassist performer for me and I never heard another bass sound like this one...
JJ played through a Marshall with ripped speakers making it sound distorted. He also karate black belt 7th Dan.He is beating the fuck out of that bass but doing it with precision.awesome
Nope....JJ played through a Hiwatt with a Marshall cab, back in the day. The speakers were indeed cut.
thanks Addam
That's right. Jean Jacques Burnels Bassline is so unique. No other Musical Artist perform the Bass like JJ.
1st 5 albums were magic. they died when Jet insisted on drum programming. this is one of their best from 76-80
They died because of the programmed drumming, yes, but they also started sucking when Hugh turned his guitar down to "2" and Dave basically took over the band's sound.
this was my favourite track from an extraordinary record, these guys just seemed to explode on to the scene in the early post-punk fall-out, after the pistols, damned, members etc. there was nothing like them, no one could make them out, they were a bit older and a bit scary, but shit hot, and they could actually play their instruments which was almost unique at the time, even though they did loads of other good stuff, I still think this disk is the best thing they ever did
I agree with most of what you say but it is not the best track on the album in my opinion.
I agree what you write, but the best Album: Rattus Norvegicus, No more Heroes, Black and White, The Raven, The Stranglers have a lot of really awesome stuff, it''s difficult to say what is the best Album. i prefer the early Stranglers.
great to hear this !
